300PRC muzzle brake test
I've modified my Beast brake design slightly over the years since introduction and I haven't done a 300PRC test so I did a new test yesterday. I picked up some new brakes (Precision Armament , Assassin, Kirby Allen (Pain Killer), Ti Pro 3, and APW) along with the ones I've already tested such as the T-3 and T-4 Terminator, Fat Bastard, Muscle brake, and Area 419. I didn't want to clutter the test up with all of my brakes so I kept it simple with all the brakes close in relative port size.
A couple notes: The APW brake and the Ti Pro 3 both had relatively high run out, around .006" which can lead to bullet impacts if the bore isn't large enough and/or the barrel threads aren't perfectly st...

6 5 Creedmoor muzzle brake test
Просмотров 65 тыс.5 лет назад
This video has 4 of my brakes and a Precision Armament M4-72 brake. The basic set up on the sled is the same for this as my 300wm test. What that shows is my better brakes on a 300wm have less recoil than a 6.5 Creedmoor without a brake.

300 Winchester Magnum 12 brake comparison

This test has 8 of my Beast series brakes compared to 4 from my top competition. My Super Beast brake wasn't designed with a 300 Win mag in mind but it's still a good comparison. Taking a gun with over 54" of free recoil travel and reducing it to about 16" really shows how well the best brakes do at reducing recoil.

7-300 Win Mag muzzle brake test
I couldnt figure out how to order. would also love to see adjustable top port versions of your newest brakes too
Email me on my site and I'll send you my ordering info. I'm working on a new brake that will have threaded and plugged top holes so you can control the muzzle rise on big magnums. The 300wm is about the largest caliber the current design can control the muzzle rise on to spot shots.
Are these still available to buy
Yep if you reach out to me on my website I can hook you up.
Wanted to provide a bit of feedback here. Just got back from shooting the Nightforce ELR steel challenge and I used a 5 port Super Beast. Over the course of the weekend, I fired 150 rounds of fairly stoutly loaded 338 Norma Mag. My shoulder feels no worse than if I had been firing my 6 dasher. The brake worked great, concussion at me was minimal, and felt recoil was insignificant. The only complaints were from the people who decided to line up too close to my sides on practice day 😂
Thanks for the feedback. Yeah the side blast is a little rough for bystanders but the recoil reduction is in a league of its own.
Just now saw this. Did you ever test with 3000 + fps ammo?
I haven't tried anything faster with that rifle. It's only a 24" barrel and I didn't spend a bunch of time developing a load.
Great rig, thanks for doing this vid! This pretty much confirms to me that muzzle brakes dont add or deduct muzzle velocity other than what can be explained by normal shot to shot velocity variations and measuring equipment tolerances. Also I'm 100% sold on muzzle brakes now
Science!
Good setup for brake test.
I see this video is 6 years old, how do these compare to the HuDu ? They are claim to shoot a 300 win mag off the chin ?
I haven't tested a HuDu but I'd bet a large stack of cash their percentage of recoil reduction claims are pure BS. Drilled hole brakes dont have the surface area a ported brake has no matter how many holes there are. A flat or slightly cupped baffle/port has a large surface area to counter act recoil. Only about 45 degrees of a round hole does any meaningful work at reducing recoil. Probably only about 1/2 that 45 degrees does anywhere near the work of a flat or cupped brake but that surface area is so small on a drilled hole that it would take at least 12 holes to equal 1 baffle. There are 5 baffles per side on my Beast brake in that video. That would mean the brake would need 120 holes or more to come close. Their pictures show 7 holes per side.
@@muzzlebrakesandmore3492 will find out soon on my 7mm PRC I have spoken with them, apparently a lab has done the testing ? Cheer’s I hope you are wrong 😂🙏 thanks for the reply … might be ordering one from you, should this one be a fail. 👍
I've probably tested more brakes than most anyone and I'm rarely surprised. Good luck with it.
Apologies for the silly question, but what would you suggest for 5.56/.223 ? Kind regards.
A 2 port or 3 port. The specific brake would depend on the barrel diameter, thread size and 1 piece or 2 piece self timed.
All those brakes are nearly identical
This is the coolest
I just just received by Beast Brake for my 300 Win Mag today ! It’s a work of art! No joke. Can’t wait to shoot it. I’ll be ordering a brake for my 300 PRC very soon. Thanks Nathan !
Your welcome.
Are you still making videos ? Would be interested to see the mdt comp brake in action if you have any in your collection
The first port on the MDT Comp is 90% rather than angled back towards the shooter. That greatly reduces the effectiveness of a muzzle brake. It helps with the concussion but gives up a bunch of performance. It's the same principle as the Muscle brake. The first port does a higher percentage of work than the rest and handicapping it by making it 90 degrees drastically reduces the overall effectiveness.
Have you done any with your Super Beast II brake?
I haven't tested them recently but they have the same ports as the 1 piece Super Beast which are slightly larger than the Big Beast II. I haven't done a overall test because most of my competitors brakes that I use are roughly the size of my Beast/Beast II brakes. They perform much better then they did in my 300wm test since I redesigned them though.
Please do a video about 12 gauge muzzle breaks.
I have thought about doing shotgun and pistol brakes but haven't had a chance yet.
I personally dont see any reason for a brake on a 300 mag. Hell my wife shoots mine and it has no brake
Watch his video of the 6.5 CM. This 300 PRC doesn’t even have a rifle stock and it is recoiling less with the Beast brake than a 6.5 CM with no muzzle brake. That is a massive reduction in recoil if the test is accurate.
I just received my Beast Brake for my 300 Win Mag. From Nathan. Quality is excellent. I’ll be ordering same for my 300 PRC soon.
@@joebidendidthat5121does the recoil feel the same as a 6.5cm with no brake ?
Win mag now feels like a .223 or 5.56, maybe less. Don’t even think about recoil at all while shooting it. Have not ordered one for the .300 PRC yet
@@joebidendidthat5121 that’s sweet, I’m only asking because i’m building a 8.5lb total weight ( including scope )300 win mag for out west backcountry hunting.
Is the Ti Pro 3 from SRS?
Yes.
Yes it is.
Those are some really nice brakes.
Thank you
I too am interested in the A65 4 port brake, where can I find one. Got a composite stock on my 300 and it kicks like a mule! Thx! Great vid

Like your vid’s, straight to the point. Keep up the good work 👍🏼
Are you not taking any orders for muzzle brakes at the moment?
Hello, congratulations for these videos, I wanted to ask if the APW raptor brake used is the monster 5-port version or the normal 5-port version. Greetings from Spain, I subscribe to the channel. thank you.
It's the standard Raptor. They didn't make the monster version when I bought it.
@@muzzlebrakesandmore3492 Thank you very much, greetings friend.
They all look good. I run a T3 on a 300 RUM, best $300 bucks I’ve ever spent. Any good quality directional brake is a night and day difference.
I sent an email. But I’m curious what’s the best brake (from your two part brake series) for a savage precision elite 30 in barrel 300 win mag. I’m stuck between Beast II and Super Beast II. It looks like your beast is always the best performer tbh
5 port beast cf or ti beast cf
Thinking of getting a 270 for my 15 year old brother but I think recoil may be too much. Do you have a 270 video?
A .270 with 130's is about 17.8lbs of recoil and a 6.5cm is about 16 with 147's. If you keep the bullet weight down and add a brake he should easily be able to shoot it. My kids shoot my 6.5prc and they are 10 and 11.
@@muzzlebrakesandmore3492 Thank you for the info!

Data!! Love it!!
I'm going to try and get a pressure plate setup going this spring to double up the data.
What you recommend for a 300 win mag Remington 700? Little TI beast?
Is it the sporter barrel? If so I usually do a 5 port Super Baby Beast with 9/16x24 threads.
Easy to cheat - all you had to do was put additional weight in the bucket for your brake.
There is no weight in the bucket at all. The bucket just adds a bit of weight to calm the sled upon initial firing to get more consistent results. I guess I could make a expanded metal bucket instead for skeptics like you. That way you could see through it. Unlike some I dont need to cheat. My brakes perform as advertised. Most others don't even show velocity or how they actually come up with their crazy high percentage of recoil reduction claims. I built the test sled, I'm pretty sure if I wanted to cheat I could and you'd never know it was happening. The same could be said for about any video testing anything on RUclips or anywhere else on the internet. The cool thing is I have a even better brake design that is almost finished and will be released soon. The sled travel is a couple inches less already if I don't change anything from now until it is released. When you actually test design changes and tweaks you find out what works. That is how I know I make the most effective brakes on the market. If it came down to having to prove it in front of a audience I'd have no problem doing it. I doubt you'd find others willing to say the same.
@@muzzlebrakesandmore3492putting that money where your mouth is. Love it.
@@muzzlebrakesandmore3492when are you releasing that new one? I’ll be in need of one soon
@@lessforloans It depends on when I can get out for more testing. The weather has been cooperative. I want to test a few more tweaks before I release so there is nothing left on the table this time.
So is this new design ready yet
How can I order a brake like this?
You can contact me with the email on my website. www.muzzlebrakesandmore.com
Great video as I need a brake for my new 300 prc.
are you still active? i would love to purchase a brake or two but your website looks like it hasn’t been updated since april of 2019. i shot you an email at your aol address :)
It was last updated April of this year. I am still active as this video was done in July of this year.
This is a cool setup.
Great vid thanks for sharing. Think it will be worth having one on a .458 Win Mag.
What do you recommend for a 300 PRC CA MPR with carbon fiber barrel? 5 port Ti Beast?
I would do a Ti Beast CF since it has the same ports as the Ti Beast but it is closer to your barrel diameter at the muzzle.
Looks great. Thank you
Your welcome.
I have one of your brakes on my 300 prc 110 elite!
I hope you like it.
@@muzzlebrakesandmore3492 Love it
How this channel never went anywhere is kinda bizarre. Pretty cool channel.
I just did a new 300PRC video and will probably do quite a few more soon. It's a bit hard when it's 100 degrees so I might pick a cooler day.
That's a warm 300wm round too
It's really not that warm. Most 300wm's will shoot 210's easily into the 2900's with the slower powders like H-1000, Retumbo, etc and high energy powders like N-570 with go into the 3000's.
The terminator does seem to be pointing upward instead of horizontal
The orientation, or the direction of the ports, doesn't change the lateral travel of a brake and the sled. I did use adapters and timed all of my brakes the same for future testing because it seems to bother some people but it doesn't effect the travel of the sled at all. The wheels on the sled are surrounded top and bottom so it rolls the same all the time.
@@muzzlebrakesandmore3492 just curious about effect. I was looking at the Terminator T2 for my .300 win mag. Thank You for the reply.
I have a feeling a precision armament HyperTap would outperform even the best brake in this video.
You'd be wrong. I have a Hypertap and ran it with some prototypes I was testing a couple weeks ago. It's not quite as good as my 4 port Beast.
@@muzzlebrakesandmore3492 - Vid or it didn’t happen.
@@jsl6155 I will put videos up soon now that the weather is better. My prototype video isn't something I let people see.

Hi!I know I’m late to the party 😂 Which brake is the. best for 300 Win Mag? Have you or will you be testing the Browning Recoil Hawg, they are claim 76% reduction but don’t mention which caliber 😂😂 Do you have a percentage reduction number for yours? Cheer’s and thank you you for the very informative videos. 👍🇨🇦
I would take their claims with a heavy grain of salt. There isn't a brake around with 90 degree ports that will come close to brakes with ports angled back.
Finally a REAL brake test. This imo is way better than what people have been doing with putting them on a swing.
I'm prototype testing tomorrow as well as some new test with more of my competitors brakes. I changed my sled a bunch to lighten the weight so it will be interesting to see how things shake out with the new sled.
If you have a suppressor, it would be cool to see how a suppressor stacks up next to muzzle brakes. I've heard they reduce felt recoil a bit.
I have a TBAC Ultra9 and will probably add it to the big test I have planned for the 300wm and 300PRC in the next week or so. It's a .30 caliber suppressor but I will probably run it when I do a test on a 6.5PRC as well.
Do you have a link for the first one you used? The 5 port beast brake...I see a few of them online and there are so many variations of it.
