I replied in your other comment about this combo. I did try nettle sentinels but they didn't work well for me. I've tried various configurations before this one and they were either unstable or a glass cannon. The Archdruid gives me a 5th priest effect that can be abused with Quirion and symbiote and it's a lord too, which is useful.

Fair enough, is gaddock teeg ever an option over the second suncleanser, it shuts off your own chords as well as opposing nadu chords etc. but it also shuts off wrath of the skies, kozileks command, etc. I’d also like to hear your opinion on tajuru preserver, whether or not it is too narrow or too slow, thank you!

In my eyes, the problem isnt mass removals. Those exist for ever in modern and a tribal player learns to play around. The problem in my eyes is constant removals, eg Bowmaster, Wrenn, Yawgmoth. Those are the actual threats for the deck. If you see, the decks I try to build are both fast as well as resilient, this is why I also do not rely on heritage druid. It is still the beginning of the spoiler season though. I am still waiting for at least 2 more good cards and then I will start thinking about post MH3! I'm not a huge fan of heroic intervention either, as it requires you to have 2 open mana at any point. I've played it in the past, but I moved away from it. In general, thes reactive cards can be tricky sometimes from my point of view. Last but not least, let's not forget that after this set we are going back to Lorwyn, the best set for elves!

Deathrite shaman would be a huge mistake. It's a 1 mana planeswalker that can be used/abused by so many decks that are already powerful. For now we will wait and see what they will give to us. After that, we as Elves players we have to learn to adapt to the new reality for tribal decks. We cannot keep on living the dream that we will play the style of magic that was played back in 2018, Magic has evolved, we have to adjust.

Actually RB is a very good matchup, they need specific hands to beat us. As long as you have more threats than their answers, you can outvalue them. Realmwalker, Cauldron, Chorus are exceptional. The worst matchups are Yawg (by far), Creativity (especially Jund), Murk needs very specific hands to beat it (in a Murk meta I defo need the 3 caverns), anything that plays ephemerate isn't good either. As for my results, as I've mentioned before I win more than I lose. I don't keep track of it, but what I do pays for my Gold Manatraders subscription and I haven't bought tickets in years. Eg, last week I only played 5 leagues. I had 3 4-1s and 2 2-3s. Other weeks I might play 10 leagues, and others I might play 15-20, if I am in a good mood and have tons of spare time. I'm not posting here to become a streamer/RUclipsr,, I'm just trying to create content for anyone that might be interested in modern Elves. I have spent many years and hours on the deck and I do believe that for now, this is the most competitive version of it so I am trying to promote it.

Nice thank you for the long answer. I thought that the RB matchup is bad because of bowmaster. But yeah it feels like cauldron and the devoted package make the deck more "unfair" for the fair matchups and cauldron let you grind better. I gotta try it out I guess. Thanks for the content. It feels like we needed some one like you who supports elves content-wise. Let's hope that we'll get something nice with mh3 like merfolk does ✌️

This happens many a time against many decks, it's even worse against Titan to be honest and it's one of the main reasons I refrain from playing that deck online a lot anymore. We all do it up to a point, especially if we see a very slow playing opponent, but trust me, I'm not a slow player (playbacks are always way slower than I am when I am actually playing the deck). We just accept it and move on, being frustrated about that (too) isn't worth my energy. To be honest, I do not mind that as much as an opponent having e.g. 1-2 Lightning Bolt in their hand, me being on 3 life or less and them casting it only when I am about to win (while holding priority). That's bad sportsmanship, attitude and annoys me more than anything else to be honest.

Sometimes you just take no prisoners :P I wanted to make 100% sure the opponent couldn't come back from the dead eg if he had a solitude

How is the Deck looking with MH3? Are Priest and Wirewood making the cut?

As I've said on discord the last days, I've been having some priorities I have to deal with in real life for the past two weeks and going on for some time. Magic will be put a bit on hold but I promise you I'll be back as soon as everything gets back in order!

Actually, I believe Elves Vs Humans is more one sided, as we can generate blockers for days! If you don't have quirion the match up is less one sided, as they can get island walk and they also play Tishana and Subtlety.

Correct! Our creatures cannot get -1/-1 counters if Vizier is in play! That's why it is the card to protect in this matchup.

It is too early to tell. Unless the whole set gets released and we see what actually is in this set, I cannot tell for sure what will stay and what will not. So I cannot tell you to buy the cards or not. I had bought it as soon as I saw it as I realised how good of a card it is in general, not only for elves but other decks too. It was an investment for me. Maybe you should wait one month for now if you haven't got them yet, I would hate to make someone spend money on cards they didn't want to.

Hello! Tyvar is one of the cards I get asked the most about. In my opinion, with the modern legal cards that exist right now, Tyvar is not an elf card. Archdruid is such a crucial part of the deck that you cannot really afford milling it to the graveyard. The strategy you are suggesting would work better in the OG Devoted combo shell, as it plays both giver and Stoneforge and a playset of Viziers. Stoneforge especially is amazing with Tyvars ability. It would also mean you would have to cut Grist, another card that's exceptional in grindy matchups. The same goes for Realmwalker and Ezuri, you do not wish to mill those cards. Furthermore, it would take up the curve from 2 to 3 a little bit too much, the deck is already testing it's limits with the 3 drops and chorus, which is a 4 drop. If you do not wish to buy Cauldrons, I would go to a lower to the ground tactic, meaning I would probably play a playset of nettle sentinels, to try to abuse the synergy with Chorus. This is the list I ran in the Regionals: www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/6150456#paper For the last Cauldron spot I would add a 2nd Realmwalker, but it really depends on your local meta. If you mostly play online like me, Realmwalker is defo the choice.

The thing is that I wouldn't have lost my Endurance, my blocker for fliers. This would buy me at least one more turn. The token would block the 7/7, Endurance (that I would untap with Quirion) would block effectively the flier and would survive too. Would this win the game for me for sure? Ofc not. But we always have to play to the maximum of our and the decks abilities and we need to know when the reward (keeping the Endurance alive and progressing our game plan/board state) is higher than the risk of losing on the spot. The way I played it pretty much defined the result as I had not many good draws to get me out of that spot.

That's a great suggestion! I will try to work on a piece that will explain how I approach each match up: what strategy I try to follow post board and what are the key cards to help you win. I think this will be more useful than just giving the answer, I believe the most important part when learning a deck is to learn the way of thinking behind each decision and makes us easier adaptive to any "odd" cards the opponent might play. I am definitely happy to see the card in modern! Same as Wirewood Symbiote, which has been leaked and we're waiting for the official spoiler, even though I do believe we needed a second Heritage druid effect too (Birchlore). There will be more Elves in the set, so I am keeping my hopes high!

Exactly. Quirion ranger is a crucial card in the match up, I never cut down on them.

It did a good job game 3, but game 2 it wasn't enough. This is also the reason I am not a huge fan of the card after all, it's not a game winner as much as we believe. It can also be too slow to give you the effect you want.

I keep beating my self up about this one, maybe I was too greedy to try to progress my board and I should have kept mana open for Scooze. I don't know, I do think though that the topdeck Crash was a very good one for the opponent.

I've never calculated it but I would say it's over 50% for sure, as I keep doing this for free for years while paying for a manatraders gold subscription with the wins too.

Sometimes I see cursed totem and I just smile. If that's the game the opponent wishes to play, they better have a follow up. Otherwise, "block me if you can". This isn't yawgmoth or scales that rely a lot on the activated abilities, this deck has many lines of play and a good swarm/beatdown plan

hahaha, oops! But yeah, that's what the deck does, the second yavimaya helped a lot on that aspect as it's way easier to recast creatures with protection :D

It is too early to tell. I hope there will be more Elves released in MH3 which could change the deck completely. The initial thought is ofc to replace Archdruid with Titania, but it is not something I am sure of yet how I'll try to approach it. One thing for sure is that I'll play Tyvar for the first time after that card was spoiled, until now I never believed it had a place in Elves as Archdruid was too valuable to throw in the gy.
