Learn, Get after it, Ya Why Not
In life, you have to make many decisions. Some decisions are a hell yes, some are a hell no, and some are a Ya Why Not. The best stories come from those Ya Why Not decisions.
Hello friends! We are Con and Al, a couple that met traveling on the beach in Mexico. We’ve been traveling since we met and finally finished building our home on wheels in January of 2024. Vanlife has been a dream of ours since we first fell in love and we are looking forward to making it from California to the tip of Patagonia and back, seeing everything in between.
Our goal is to learn; learn about life, about love, and about ourselves.
We hope you join us. It would be awesome to learn from you too. 🫶🏽
Sincerely,
Con and Al

the truth about living in a van, as a couple | a year on the road
Hi friends!
Con and I have been struggling with a fact about vanlife, that we didn't think about ahead of time. Something that we hadn't anticipated. When we planned for this huge life change, we thought we had considered it all. But there is a minor reality, that has been growing into a bigger and bigger problem as of lately. I explain what it is in this video! Thanks for watching!

is vanlife dirty? | a day in the life of living in a van

Hi friends! The other day i realized that we don't clean the van as much as we could. Part of that is because i haven't developed a system yet. It seems easy enough to just vacuum and wipe down surfaces, but having a routine with cleaning products that we like, helps make it a habit. Moving from a house to a vehicle isn't as easy as just transferring over the routines you have in one living env...
vanlife at the Kentucky Derby | is it still an American classic?

This was not what we expected! We knew we were in for a party, but this far exceeded what we anticipated. First off, we didn't buy tickets to general population in the center of the field. And we are very glad we didn't. We heard horror stories of overflowing porta-potties, long lines for drinks, and muddy grass. We decided to buy seats in the stands and that was such a good call. The vibe was ...

If you're new to the channel, we are Con and Al and we're traveling around North America in our self converted camper van. We've been to 30 states and have learned so much about the USA and ourselves. In this video we capture as much of the vibe as we can, but it's hard to recor...

Yes! We are staying at a camp spot called Van Camp. they have showers, bathrooms, and a small private courtyard! It’s so nice. Luxury for us :)
The chaiormatcha sounds to die for
It is! Thanks for the comment 😊
I’m incredibly jealous! Looks amazing 🌊🏄♀️🏄♂️🥕🫚
Thanks Megan! The Elf will be home soon and I’ll have to do the morning routine solo 😢
Muy tasty 😂loved that part
Thanks man! 😊
You guys are actually crazy enough to spend $42,000 a year and rent alone?
I know right?! I grew up in California so it’s all I know. But now, with how the housing market is and the challenges of become a homeowner, there is no way we could rent and save for our future home. It’s crazy.
It’s comparable in the end I think…but the freedom is priceless! Safe travels! 🎉💪
I totally agree! Safe travels to you too! 😃🤙🏼
Sweet spot, sweet spot! Wheres it at?!
Hey hey! We’re heading south for the winter! Gonna settle in a van camp by the beach. Less moving around and more getting into a routine.
Same here. Always flying, staying in hotels, etc. Miss my better half a lot. I lived in HK for 8 years-it’s a great place for a business trip. Friendly people and good, cheap food. I wouldn’t mind living in an RV or camper van. Sounds fun, though I can imagine it must be difficult when you need space/privacy. I love companies who allow booking of business class for flights over 10 hours. That’s super fair. Being forced to fly somewhere for work and being stuck in economy just sucks.
Wow, you know exactly what I mean! I miss my better half every time I have to go. And good point; when a company allows business class for 10+ hour flights, I respect that. It would be tough to sit economy for those long flights to Asia. Privacy is the biggest issue that we have, or more like autonomy. Alone time. Con needs her space, and this lifestyle doesn’t allow that at all. We are finding that challenging, but we wouldn’t have it any other way :) Thanks for the comment and sub, my friend! I hope you get a chance to explore vanlife if it draws you in!
perhaps compare the cost per square foot... Living in a rabbit hutch is always going to be cheaper.
Hahaha, true! And depending where you live in the USA, it’s not much cheaper either!
Would like a complete cost comparison… we’re fixing up our Volkswagen van but we’re at the point now that we don’t know if we should stay with our parents and fix up our van and safe or move to Denmark to get our own house and settle there, fix up the van there and then travel on and off instead of living in the van. It stresses me out a little…
That’s such a tough decision. I’ll say this, it took me A LOT longer to build out the van than I thought it would. We loved with Con’s parents for a little while and that helped us save money for the build. But we stayed longer than expected. Denmark sounds amazing! Would you ship the Volkswagen over there?
@ yeah if we move to Denmark, we’re planning to ship the van. In The Netherlands the housing market is insane and you’ll get nothing. We found places in Denmark where we can have a house and a huge shed to work on the van with. Only… that means that we’re not settling in a van but in a house. Which could be good because then we already have a beautiful house before those get expensive there too. It also means, more expenses and less freedom to travel… I guess I’ll see what will happen and shouldn’t worry about it too much. I’m 23 and still got a lot of shit to figure out hahaha. I’m really happy for you guys that you guys are doing the things you love and get to experience so much beauty in your life. I wish you, Con an both your families so much happiness. ♥️
@@alohaalia1091 wow, hearing your story, it sounds like I’m listening to myself. I feel the same way (although I’m not as young as you, haha). Every choice we make leads us in a certain direction. But more than that, every choice we make defines who we are and who we’ll become. You have a tough decision to make, but trust your gut. Don’t let fear influence your choices. Listen to your intuition and you’ll make the right choice. And remember, both are great options with unique benefits! Thank you for the good vibes and good wishes! I wish you two the same. I look forward to hearing what you decide to do! 😊❤
@ thank you, I’ll try to remind myself of your wise words. I’ll definitely update you when we made our decision and how it goes!☺️✨
@@alohaalia1091 I look forward to it! I’m excited for you, my friend! Good things are coming your way :)
Why not tell us the gas prices? Seems relevant for this video.
I’ll make another video including that this week! Thank you for the comment and for subscribing!
It's a stupid comparison, if you compare the van with a fucking expensive Californian flat. Compare it to the average cost of a flat in an avaerrgae neighborbood.
more importantly, compare the size. a van is barely big enough for a bed and some storage.
We’d have a hard time comparing it to anything else because we haven’t lived in an “average” neighborhood. We’d just be speculating at that point.
Pretty cool, wish I could do this in Australia and just travel !!
I hope you’re able to fulfill your dream! I’d love to travel around Australia. I heard it’s beautiful!
Man this is really sad
It's crazy how high the cost of being homeless is.
😂. Right?!
Interesting
❤❤❤❤
Thank you! ❤️
Yes, the costs are lower. But you live in a van, and all the restrictions that come with it. Also, storage 0$? If anything, moving from an apartment to a van your storage costs should vastly increase.
You're assuming they are storing an apartment's worth of furnishings etc. They obviously sold off pretty much everything that wouldn't go in the van. Even if they paid storage it wouldn't be that much for those two boxes.
@@pdxyyz4327 exactly! We sold and gave away everything that we owned. And we just stashed the two boxes in Con’s parent’s garage. They were kind to let us leave the memorabilia.
So the New American Dream is to live in a van... ok.... =)
Haha, right?! I guess when the average American can’t buy a house…
150 dollars for starlink? You're getting robbed mate.
Really?! I haven’t looked at pricing recently. Do we need to change our plan? That is what it has cost for the roaming plan .. Has pricing been updated?
@@conandal hi, I hadn't thought of it being roaming so maybe I'm wrong. I pay €35 a month in Spain for starlink at an off-grid property, it was a higher price but they reduced it automatically. Apologies if I mislead you but I know that prices have changed a lot here over the past year so it might be worth checking.
@@MsAlibalibee thank you! I’m going to check prices today. They are constantly changing since there is no contract with Starlink. Thanks for the reminder to stay vigilant!
Shirley, you jest
Hahaha, I’m serious, and don’t call me Shirley haha :)
What types of areas do you normally park at while working remote? I’m starting within the next year and want to start findinghg some good spots
Public libraries are gold mines! If we are taking calls, it’s challenging, but if we are just working on a project, a public library has wifi, bathrooms, water fountains, and kind employees. Otherwise, we’ll park in shade at a park, or anywhere that has good hotspot reception. I prefer to tether to my phone for zoom calls, over Starlink. Thanks for watching! And good luck on your adventure! Such a great move my friend!
Where i can buy this vest??? Any link???

This one is almost the same. But also good!
@conandal I'm asking if u have any online stores where i can buy this vest, i need exactly like this one
@@rishi_dutta394I bought it online at Amazon. But I can’t find the exact same one anymore. I’m sorry :(
Really seeing the story telling come alive in these new videos!

Cool videos bros!
Thank you! 😊
Memphis, TN and surrounding areas are pretty and a great place to settle. Cost of living is low. Wishing you all the best 🎉
You’re so kind! We went through Nashville, missed Memphis, regrettably. Our plan is to head back in the spring!
I'm old and always wanted to do what yall have done My advice to people is live your dreams while you can
Thank you for the good advice! 😊
Robert, live your dreams while you can!
Coool
Thank you! 🥰
So cool!! 💸💸💸
Do you guys shower?
We do! We have a shower in the van. We also shower at the gym whenever we exercise. I made a video on how we shower if you wanna check it out :) thanks for watching my friend!
@conandal ok
@@conandal I want a van with a show and toilet. That's very important.
@@coastskyadventures2752 I agree. The shower is our number one priority. But we’ve found that there are so many toilets in the community that we can use, like when we are grocery shopping or buying from Home Depot. Or working at a public library.
What did you decide to do? What spots have been your favorites?? Did you two make a choice on where to settle into? Curious minds want to know! Do tell
Haha! 🫶🏽. We are headed to Baja for December and January! We may even stay down there longer if we get our property in our name! 🥳
It would be so great to clean the entire house in a few minutes......maybe I need to live in a van!!! Yes, seems like you could get by without the dust buster since it's fairly large and has to be kept charged. One of those small dustpan/brush sets where the brush fits within the dustpan would probably do the trick, be less weight and take up less space. Can you seal that refrigerator crack with something so liquids cannot seep into the floor/walls?
What if a cop tries to pull the cab over?
Haha that’s a good question. Probably do what we normally do and run 🤷🏽♂️
we call it "Delamain"
Ahh a man of culture
51 people have died due to tesla autopilot
How many people have been saved by tesla autopilot smalling in brakes or diverting course faster than a human. I'm not a fan of tesla but I cant deny that their autopilot and obstacle avoidance is impeccable
You’re gonna freak when you hear how many die from driving regular cars.
In years and years? I'd say that's better than the thousands every year.
People should never ever hire those taxis because, today is the taxi driver who loses his job, but tomorrow you will be replaced also and, this just happened because of your ignorance.
the taxi drivers are already replaced with uber
@chainsawman1628 you missed the point dude but I'm can understand, you are a ignorant American.
What a complicated ordeal! I can't believe that nobody along the way goofed it up for you, especially when dealing with places like the MVD. I can't get over how inexpensive the plates ended up being. They are only a fraction of what AZ charges. So happy everything worked out and you are now an authority on going through that process!!!
This was probably my favorite video because I love that area so much and have spent such a lot of time there in summer and winter. Thanks for bringing back great memories!
How fun and congrats on winning!!! You both looked so nice all dressed up. Too bad it was a rainy day but appears everyone there still had a great time!
Those lakes look so darn clear! Such a great destination after a long difficult hike. Really awesome video, ya’ll look like you are getting the most out of van life. Watching your videos inspire me to branch out and explore a bit more in life.- thank u!
Thanks Wheaty! ❤😊
Check valve is easiest fix. Best fix is to route the overflow outside with the pressure relief.
I agree. I think I’m gonna route the overflow outside…… but I’m on the fence!
you can use a ctrap, or a 1 way valve (usually called back flow prevention valves)
Back flow prevention valve, awesome! Trying to fix this while on the road is tough. I need to find a Home Depot with a PEX crumping tool. It’s hard to get Amazon packages on the go.
@@conandal yea i was thinking about that, those usually require a minimal pressure to operate. you may want a similar device meant for air..i think they call them check valves
@@ZelosZelothank you for the help!
One way valve on the drain line
Thank you!
wsalder it
I would say put in a check valve
If you go into a fresh construction house look at the plumbing and you'll see vents that run up to the ceiling that will stop the effect
I've opened several styles of high voltage led lights. It's always the same failure. They use components that aren't robust enough for the application. Designed to fail.
Driver died due to overheat. Can't usually cram them into insulation like that. Sorry kiddies, if you want lights that don't cost so much and actually last in that installation environment you'll have to go for incandescent. If you burn 2 a year I don't think you're doing much for conservation.
lol check easy first!
