I used aluminum extrusion for almost everything in my van, except for...the wall cabinets. I did use 20 mm extrusion as anchors running length wise in the ceiling and upper wall, attached to the van using Rivnuts like you mentioned. I then built 25" wide wall cabinets using 1/2" plywood about the same depth and height as yours. I painted the cabinets and stained the doors I made. They are then attached to the ceiling and wall extrusions. I can easily remove each wall cabinet if needed. Looking forward to your video on the 12 volt water heater; and enjoy Montana! It's beautiful there!!!
I think 20mm was a good call! I think I used 40mm (15 series) because we intended on attaching soft close hinges, but like I mentioned, it didn’t work out haha. Now I wish I used 20mm! Or wood like you :) It’s fun to be able to laugh about it now, but it was frustrating at the time 😊
It's a shame the cost was so high but you really ended up with a beautiful setup! I think using the baskets or cubes instead of having doors is so much nicer too. It's lighter weight and looks great. So glad you found those baskets. Don't think you'll ever regret the powder coating. It holds up amazingly well. Looking forward to seeing you both in November and hearing about all your adventures!
I think you’re right! As expensive as the powder coating was, it’ll last much longer. In a sense, it’ll pay for itself in longevity. Thanks for the reminder! And I agree, the cabinet doors weren’t necessary. I feel bad for asking you to help me make those with such short notice 😅. I was in a time crunch panic! Haha
