這是姜瑩最成功的作品，特别能發揮中國樂器的特長，全曲自起首至终尾，绝無冷場，越聽越興奮！过去十年來，我聽了百數次，搜集來自不同樂團演奏版本，最佳的是來自中央民族樂團及蘇州管弦樂團，臺灣的新竹青年樂團亦不俗。其餘的大都樂手不足，樂器不全，難以發揮此曲的風采。如果日後改用西式交响樂去奏，提琴代二胡，喇叭代嗩吶，結他代琵琶等，不知會有如何效果？

1:11:20 - Pelayaran 《飘洋过海》 “Pelayaran” means “voyage” in Malay. Commissioned by the Singapore Chinese Orchestra for Oud (Malay: Gambus), Pipa and orchestra, this piece describes early immigrants from China and the Malay Archipelago braving the rough seas to start new lives in Singapore. In «Pelayaran», the Oud represents a Malay migrant while the Pipa represents a Chinese migrant. The two instruments’ introduction in free tempo expresses the hardships they face in their homelands. Next, a slow rhythmic groove is introduced and the Oud and Pipa play the main theme in a Malay and a Chinese style respectively, signifying the migrants’ search for a new life. The orchestra gradually joins in, as if more and more migrants are converging in their journeys. Halfway into the piece, the music suddenly turns tense and builds up to a stormy climax, depicting the migrants’ treacherous voyages on decrepit wooden ships. The orchestra recapitulates the main theme as the migrants emerge triumphant from the raging waves, and the grand ending symbolises the establishment of a new prosperous society in Singapore.
