Shop Update - Getting Organized with Kanban! | Steve The Graphics Guy

In this video I show you how I am getting organized for growth. While I have a decent amount of procedures to follow, most of them have to be taught by me which makes me the bottleneck. The Kanban system is going to help everyone know which products are where, who they need to be ordered from and at what quantity. I have a lot more cards to make, but this will be part of my daily continuous imp...

Nice video, helps me a lot. Wondering the last part of the vinyl that you used was already cut the back in half ?
Merry christmas!
Same to you!
Merry Christmas and Happy New year 2025😊
Merry Christmas!!
Merry Christmas and have a wonderful New Year. 😊
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you too!
Happy Holidays, Steve! Here's to even more success in 2025!!!
Thank you! Happy Holidays to you too!
That’s a good idea 👍
It makes the job so much easier!
Ive done a few of those accenture greater than logos! Looks cool
Nice!
You do such clean work it's almost relaxing watching you guys do your thing. To the new girl who I don't think we've ever seen before , welcome!! Oh how I wish we had a flatbed summa... one day. Good Video you guys!
Glad you enjoyed the video! Hope you can get your flatbed one day!
That scissor lift is sure handy to have!
It sure is! I think we use it more in the office than taking it out for installs haha
That's everywhere, Steve. Nobody cares or thinks anymore. It drives me crazy. They need to learn what work ethics are because they have none; by the way, Steve, what state are you based in.
Yeah it’s tough. We’re in Pennsylvania!
@@stevethegraphicsguy At Yellow tool, they sell TimberMaxx Atis. It has two bubble levels, a straight edge for cutting and a felt edge for laying vinyl. Have you ever used new ones or any of the older versions? I might buy one for signs on glass or walls. What is your thoughts about them? I could easily make one for I have the equipment. But buy the materials. cut and assemble the dam thing. Ah, better just go buy it and be done with it. lol
Awesome video, Steve! Shop looks festive and it was a great video to show off the capabilities of your equipment and services. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
Appreciate the kind words! It was a fun project. Wishing you a happy holiday season too!
Merry Christmas Stever, workers and family.
Same to you! Thanks for watching
Steve, again, I ask. How did you make so much money to move into a small warehouse and buy all that equipment. That is mind-boggling what you have done.
I started very small and have been working my way up over the years! It’s been a long journey so far and I still have a long way to go!
@@stevethegraphicsguy@stevethegraphicsguy Well done, my friend. Well done.
Merry Christmas to you guys as well. Love your shop.
Thank you! Appreciate you watching
Steve what is the cutter called you used cutting the seam lines. The one you slid against the straight edge?
It’s called the Seam Buster made by Advance
@@stevethegraphicsguy Thank you. Merry Christmas
Truly hope you can make the flatbed work so it starts paying for itself. That thing looks like it sucks a lot of ink just making it ready.
So, with that flatbed. That means aluminum signs and MDF direct printing. Now that is really cool.
It’s limitless! We can print on anything haha
@@stevethegraphicsguy@stevethegraphicsguy How did you get so much money to afford that massive shop and all your big money-making toys.
If that's a pattern. I am guessing that was pinned to the wall. how to you mark out the pin location for reinstallation.
We took it back to the shop and then marked around the pins so that we could use the pattern for the new location
@@stevethegraphicsguy One job paid to remove. I did not know I was reinstalling months later. So they sent me a template with no x marks the spot. I made several short pins with points and threaded them into the letters. The paper template was over cardboard on a table. Line the letters up with the template. When good, give it a nice pushdown. When I reapplied the letters with the new template, Signage came out great. Letters were nice and square.
Absolutly stunning final product.
Appreciate it!
How many days did you calculate the install time for this job? That was a lot of installation.
I think I spent 2 days at this job.
Steve, I did just see it on Amazon. A plastic panel you curl up and stick down inside garbage bags. It make the bag stand up and top fully open. When done pull plastic out and close the bag,
I like the idea and design of the name running down the doors. Looks classy.
Steve, watching your skills is a benefit to my business and skill sets.
What is that cutter called your cutting the seam with? Who sells it.
Seam buster by Advance
Very cool you showing your operation.
Glad you liked it!
Do you call that cutter a plotter? Never seen a cutter look like that. Wow. Looks like high-dollar equipment.
It has many names. Flatbed cutter is the most common.
@@stevethegraphicsguy What it can cut through is fantastic. I can recall cutting many projects by hand while working in a print shop. By the way, is it a vacuum that keeps the project from moving around?
The program looks familiar. Looks like Flexi sign.
You got it!
How many employees do you have working, Steve? Your shop space and inventory are impressive. The shop is looking great.
Just me and a designer at the moment. We’re looking to grow the team but it has been hard to find good help.
Steve, you do pro-grade work. I would study your style and technique any day.
The one thing I do is extend the blade longer so I can get a nice, easy slicing motion to start the cut at the top. Then, I shorten it as usual.
Watching you, I am genuinely upping my game as an installer.
Hot dam, you made that dam easy and fearless. So, what soap ratio to qt are you using? Are you using distilled water? In California, we have high hardness, so it dries white.
I probably should use distilled but get away with regular water. I haven’t measured my ratio of more of a feeling thing. I use dawn platinum and give it a one Mississippi squeeze generally.
@@stevethegraphicsguy Thanks. It really came out clean-looking.
Thats brilliant. Slit the backing and then apply. However, the downside is that not all corners are actual. And if it is a stucco wall, you won't even bother slitting it. But I am for sure going to use this trick when possible.
And if there is a caulking bead, you aren't doing anything about it unless the customer is very clear and then has the caulking removed. Then install it and have the painters come back and recaulk.
I like using a stainless or carbon thin flexible mud blade cutting into corners; the blade has to be rounded over and sharp corners removed. It Works really well.
Hey Steve. I have the same project coming up and don't want to out source. How are you getting the double stick tape to stick to the backer paper? maybe I didn't catch it. Thanks
@JustinM9000 Hey! I just use a standard banner tape. It’s certainly not permanent but sticks pretty well for me. I am using a non air egress film which helps the tape stick better too.
HI LOVE THE WORK AND IS IT POSSIBLE TO PLACE A ORDER WITH YOU ? DO YOU USE POLYESTER PLASTIC TO PRINTE W A UV PRINTER
Been watching most of your videos and great job. What is brand of packing tape and the machine your using, I really like the setup.
I do not miss my flatbed. 😂 I also love my summa.
Haha. Glad you found me here!
When i saw the summa barcode printing along the 8 foot edge i was wondering how that was going to work lol, do you not use the barcode workflow with your summa?
I actually don’t most of the time. I really only use it with paneled wall murals on a roll. Do you know how I can change it to be on the 4’ side?
@stevethegraphicsguy no sorry I don't, I don't have a flatbed printer so it's never come up.
nice! is there a reason you prefer flatbed over regular printer?
Just to print direct to substrate and eliminate vinyl when I can!
Looks really solid,, congrats! Since it came from overseas, did you set it up yourself?
I didn’t buy it direct from overseas. I bought it from a vendor locally so they delivered and set it up for me!
Welcome back! I always learn so much from your content.
Appreciate you watching and I am glad you find the content helpful!
Glad to see a new upload. I figured you were probably busy. Congrats on the new purchase, it'll open up a lot more opportunities for you moving forward. Can't wait to see more of what it can do.
Appreciate that, I'm excited to start using it more and sharing what it can do with everyone!
Congrats on the addition! Get yourself some swabs for the head too, soak it with solvent cleaner and you can get a little more scrubbing action on the heads. My old Roland was annoying and the nozzles got dirty super fast
Whoo hooo! He's back! :D
glad to see you back. Enjoy the videos
Appreciate it! Glad you are enjoying them!
Glad you're back man! I learn more from your channel than most others on large format printing, keep em coming!
Appreciate that, I'm working on getting some more done! Anything in particular you want to see?
Love to see you back on RUclips! Interesting that you shut your machine off daily, does your machine have any circulation pumps? If so you might be wise to leave it running to keep the ink flowing through the ink.
Thanks Matt! I don’t believe that it does. I could leave it on, but still need to shut the valves in case the power did go out. We haven’t really had power issues in the past but I don’t want to deal with the aftermath if it does lose the pressure. I think something happens where the ink back flows into the pressure tubes and creates a mess!
@@stevethegraphicsguy very interesting! Our vanguard which ironically has identically control software mists ink every 10-15 seconds. So it is constantly wasting ink but it keeps the lines pressured.
Hey man!! I'm super stoked you're back. Congrats on the new equipment and being busy, and yes finding good help is hard. Glad you're back good sir.
Thanks! I'm happy to be back!! Appreciate you watching.
