    Have you cycled the rear suspension through it’s full travel? Short driveshafts start to bind up pretty quickly. You likely have way too much suspension travel for the pavement. Also more steering lock than you need. The steering ratio may be too fast making the car difficult to drive smoothly and accurately. Ditch the torsion bars. Coil overs will be much easier and cheaper to dial in. You could use one of the torsion tubes to house anti sway bars. A sequential transaxle with paddle shifters would eliminate the shifting issues and really help the performance by giving you 5 speeds. The required IRS rear suspension would of course be a complication but no worse than your current setup that likely has a lot of bind and who knows what sort of instant center, roll center, etc issues that are present. One last thought, you may be killing the clutch with all the slipping driving the car around the pits.

      I really appreciate the concerns, advice, and ideas. Most of those subjects and issues have been addressed in past episodes, however with the flood of new viewers and supporters, in my next 3-4 episodes I’ll be starting a detailed build breakdown where I will discuss the current setup, goals, and how I got to the current setup through over more than 7 years of engineering, research, building, and development. As for going to spectate at Pikes, my wife and I have been twice, went to practice days, and even got to spend race day with David Donner, whom you can imagine was a wealth of knowledge. Also, you might want to stay tuned to see about the plans for ‘25, you’re on the right track there. Thanks again for the comments!

      @@johnfiore91 Carroll Smith wrote several books back in the 70s and 80s that were recommended to all beginning SCCA racers. "Prepare to Win" and "Tune to win" were his originals. One of the best ideas was what he called "paper dolls". You measure all of the suspension components and pick up points and then cut out posterboard facsimiles and draw your suspension pickup points on an adequately sized flat surface and then you put the posterboard trailing arms, etc on the flat surface and work the parts through their travel. Nowadays you would use CAD programs to do the same thing.

    • @ldnwholesale8552
      @ldnwholesale8552 3 дня назад

      Agreed with tailshaft. My old Supermodified [1968 forerunner to a Sprintcar] has this issue and is possibly longer @ 92". You need the suspension to go up and down, through a very small arc. I have clearanced both front and rear yokes to gain angle. You will only require max 6" of travel, 5" will do ok. 3.5 down and 1.5" up from ride height. And yes I once hillclimbed it,,,, rear brakes only, chassis set remotely square and even dia tyres. I just needed 3 hands!,, one to steer, one to change gear and one for the brake. It now has a hand clutch which will make it harder. Coilovers would be simpler and easier to 'tune' and using one torsion bar per end could make a good sway bar. I doubt you would need one front but a softer front bar in the rear would be ok rear,, make it adjustable. That is the way I set up my road race tintops for hillclimbs

    IMO you need to think about you first foray at Pikes Peak in 2026. You need to spend 2025 making your car 100% reliable and nearly maintenance free. You should still go to PP next year but as a spectator. Spend a lot of time in the pits talking to old hands. See what they are doing. Solutions they are implementing. The old saying is “learn from the mistakes of others “ but the more important motto should be “learn from the successes of others “. Preferably really smart “others”.

The car he drove was not actually a sprint car, it’s a sprint car’s bigger and heavier brother, a next generation “silver crown” or “champ car” car that was run wingless on pavement super speedways in the early 2000s for 3 years, mostly as a support series for Indy car. My best friend was on the tour for 2 of the 3 years. For comparison, his car is 2500lbs while mine is about 1900lbs. I like his car and what he and Roger Johnson accomplished but it’s not a sprint car (even though he proclaimed it was lol). My car’s chassis ran with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series in 2017. I know some will try to argue that but midgets and silver crown cars are not sprint cars.

    Have you considered taking the car to Bonneville ever?

    • @johnfiore91
      @johnfiore91 2 месяца назад

      It would be very hard to beat “The Green Demon” Damian Gardner’s record at 211 mph but the experience in it self would be epic, it would also be very expensive though lol

    I love this. I raced winged sprints and midgets for 14 years. Few can appreciate what its taken for you to create this wonderful machine.

      Thank you so much, I appreciate you noticing the details, only racers, especially sprint car racers would know what it has taken, 99% of the car is different from a conventional sprint car. It’s for that reason that I started this build series.

    One thing always to look out for is drag links are definitely directional, if you get it backwards and then the tire contacts its possible to spin it right off the heim joints. Ask me how i learned that lesson. Lol !

    • @johnfiore91
      @johnfiore91 2 месяца назад

      Good advice again! Good thing this one has the s bend for the tire at the one end so it’s kind of idiot proof for me lol. Not sure if you do already or not but we always taped around the drag link straps on the frame and drag link which could prevent it spinning off. Do you still run?

    We always squared the rear axle off the motor plate and then square the front axle too the rear axle on blocks and then check At ride height.

    • @johnfiore91
      @johnfiore91 2 месяца назад

      That’s good advice but it’s not how to measure the car that I’m worried about, that I’ve done too many times than I wanted to unfortunately lol, it’s the actual measurements for squaring, blocking, desired ride heights, etc. I have help with bars and shocks from Frank’s Shocks and Newlin Bar Service I’m fortunate to say. We’re making it turn both left and right so there isn’t any data and we have to start from scratch mostly. I like using a piece of aluminum angle off the motor plate for squaring, what’s your favorite thing to use and what class?

    Coming along well, I don't know if ya saw what I posted in an earlier video, but I said "couldn't ya just flip over the LF bar to work on the RF" and that's what ya did, cool I thought that it might work. Are ya running a multiple disk clutch? I bet your getten excited to take it for a spin eh? Thanks for your military service. Be safe when ya shake it down.

      Hope you’re doing better! I did see your last comment, it was after I mounted the new arm but great minds think alike! lol, and it’s a twin disc 7” clutch from Quartermaster.

    I'm late watching this (was in hospital) but could ya just take a LF arm and flip it over, just a thought to get that tire clearance, or does it stick out farther when mounted?

    Not sure, but I think that Holley deal learns what the engine is doing and adjusts

    • @johnfiore91
      @johnfiore91 3 месяца назад

      That’s correct sir! The ECU does learn as far as tuning goes but you still have to tune a lot of things besides the fuel mapping such as, turning the fans on at a certain temp, idle speed, etc. What’s nice is I can use the gauge screen to change things like that. I did use the Holley HP ECU for that reason though, it’ll help with elevation changes at Pikes.

      93 pump gas right now, will be race E85 soon, it’s running a base global file tune so that will require more work, it’s a stock gen 4 5.3 with 799 heads and better valves and valve train, stock bottom end, big camotion cam. I believe the 799 heads make 10.5:1 . This combo should be around 425-500whp. It will be rebuilt for Pikes Peak and will have twin turbos that should make 800+ whp. At least that’s the plan! lol
