Good review of the Rough Ryder Knife Challenge. I was like you, did not really care about Camp Knives until I got one in a lot of knives that I won on eBay. They have a spot in my collection now. The hook blade is for cutting the wax string off gaffs or knife used in cock fighting. Some of these also come with a sharpening stone embedded in one of the hamdle scales for sharpening gaffs.

I like these when i’m getting into repairs just cause i’m less likely to stab myself when poking around with some electronics. Sorta like a sheepsfoot/lambsfoot but way smaller. I know i could grind down the blade of a “regular” knife but there is something to just finding a use for any existing tool. I even have a drawer of “crappy” tools that i hang onto just in case i find one thing they are actually good for. Never throw anything away 😂

Hi RJ. Great work promoting your local dealer. He sounds like a good guy. I just wish shops would stop putting sticky price labels on carbon steel blades. Depending on the glue it can stain the steel quite badly, even sometimes stainless.

Just bought the green micarta one since it was the cheapest here (about 50 euro) will get it in a day or 2. It looks great and for the price i dont mind using it a lot.

My father in-law today gave me his kabar rigging knife he used in the navy. The marlin spike was used to push through a tight knot in rope and helped him take the knot out. 1969 when he got it and now I have it and will be carrying it daily.

I had a Gerber 400 in the Boy Scouts, that was my main knife along with a Buck 112.
