    I really don’t understand the obsession with lightfastness. Someone buying a palette should ask: what are my paintings for? Face it: a lot of what you paint doesn’t turn out brilliantly, and that’s fine: you paint to learn and explore. And then, if you work in a sketchbook, no one painting is going to be much exposed to light for very long, anyway. Whether you work in a sketchbook or on sheets, most of your paintings, even if worked in fugitive colours, will probably last well enough to display if you don’t hang them in direct sunlight. The fugitive issue really is only one for professionals who sell their art to worry about. For anyone else, if you create something you love, get it framed professionally and hang it carefully and it will probably still give you pleasure till the end of your days. Your teeth or your eyes will give out before your paintings lose their lustre.

    I’ve never been in a ring planner because my only experience with rings is in binders at school. The pages would tear if I left the paper in the binder while writing on it. Doesn’t thing happen in these ringed planners like plotter?

    • @SarahBaileyArts
      @SarahBaileyArts Год назад

      I don't have this problem at all but I suppose it depends on how hard you are on your binder. It does have six rings instead of three though, so I'm assuming the additional stability prevents the paper from shifting so much and putting stress on the holes. If you want to try it but don't want to buy an expensive binder until you're sure you will like it you can get clear plastic ones SUPER cheap on Amazon. I don't like them because you have to force them to lay flat, but just for the purposes of trying it out they're a great option.

    Can you not just dip your dry fountain pen into the ink with the same result?

    • @SarahBaileyArts
      @SarahBaileyArts Год назад

      You can totally do that, but true fountain pens exhibit capillary action when dipped, so every time you dip it and rinse it, it sucks up more ink and water into the nib and feed and not only does it get more difficult to clean between each color, you still have to clean the entire pen when you're done. It just doesn't have the same convenience, especially when you're using multiple inks in one sitting. With a dip pen you can just rinse it in a glass of water and you're done. :)

    I enjoyed watching this. I personally have always loved W&N, I’ve only ever used the professional watercolours. Although the formulas have gradually changed over the years, if it’s any comfort I have some pans that are over two decades old and still rewet perfectly. The odd pan went hard, like Prussian blue and viridian,but they are known for that. There’s certainly something about their raw umber which seems to vary not in hue but in pigment load like crazy. It’s useful for getting granulation into mixes. All those weak earths as you call them are excellent for landscape painting. I especially love their raw Sienna mix as the sunlit element of the sky. It’s transparency lends itself to that, and it’s livelier than their yellow ochre. I think the set provides a really good range for almost any subject and I’m glad they took out the white. I had to change the phthalocyanine blue and Cerulean around though, having the delicate Cerulean next to phthalocyanine green was an art Crime waiting to happen! 😂

I stumbled onto your channel while doing some research on dip pens. I like how you repurposed that fountain pen and made a dippy out of it. I've been Frankensteining dip pens lately too. It's fun to be creative. Now make some more videos.🎨

      It’s a dragonfruit! If you get one that’s ripe they’re sweet and juicy. If not ripe, disgustingly sour. The flavor is mild and tropical, but it doesn’t really taste like anything else so it’s hard to compare. The texture is close to a pear. Starbucks makes a dragonfruit drink if you’re interested in trying it but can’t find one in stores. Oh they can also be red or white inside, it doesn’t really taste different. Videos have been difficult lately, unfortunately. 🫠 I just don’t have the mental bandwidth to put into it at the moment. Since I bought a Hocoro I haven’t been using any Franken dip pens ☺️ but I still change out regular fountain pen parts pretty often, it’s fun!

      Unfortunately not, but I do all my layouts in InDesign. There's a grid generator that I use here to make the grid portion - incompetech.com/graphpaper/lite/ and then I lay the text and lines over top of that grid in InDesign. If you're doing dated pages and binding it yourself, InDesign has a print option that will print your pages in the correct order for a bound book with signatures. It's too complicated for your average RUclips viewer so not worth making a tutorial (also it would be really long!) but for someone who is tech-adventurous it's not too terrible to figure out on your own. :)
