Unfussy Board Games
Великобритания
Добавлен 2 сен 2020
Welcome to Unfussy Board Games! I'm Terry and I love playing board games, particularly ones which have some strategy involved. Although I like games which have a bit of substance, I really admire the ones which manage to provide strategy without too much complexity or fussy components.

The sort of games I like are sometimes called Eurogames or German-Style Board games. Some of my favourite designers are Stefan Feld and Uwe Rosenberg.
Some of my favourite games are Agricola, Hansa Teutonica, Caylus, Troyes, Food Chain Magnate, Imperial 2030, Madeira, ...
If you have not heard of these titles or designers then you need to check out this channel - there is a whole world of fantastic board games for you to discover!
Glory to Rome, Innovation and Airlines Europe
After an eight month hiatus Unfussy Board Games returns to finish the Collection Cull series of videos.
This time I will be taking a look at the card games Glory to Rome and Innovation. Also, I will be talking about a board game beauty, Airline Europe. In the video I share my thoughts as I decide whether to keep or cull these games and quite a few others.

Great video !
who is here from heathfield?
Terry you are a Skibidi toilet, Sigma Ohio Gyat RiZaer
5:36 How are you getting a gaia planet with your first action with only one cube? It would have to be either adjacent or using the round booster. I'm skeptical this play is a thing to the point of suggesting it as some kind of opening principle.
I am not saying first action at that point in the video. Sorry if that wasn't clear. Just talking about getting to range 2 which would mean you also have 2 cubes. Therefore it's possible to get 2 Gaia planets in round 1.
Great guide thanks
3:25 no, if you displace a player, then they displace you back, you both end up profiting because you get extra cubes on the board for an equal amount of actions. Also, I think you focus way too much on the 3rd action. Yes, it's powerful and good, but you don't mention about the other upgrades or ways to optimally use bonus markers, etc.
Thanks for the comment but I stand by my statement - get the 3rd action before you take income! When a newbie still has 2 actions well into the game, it's a sad sight indeed 😂
I recently started playing Brass Birmingham and I'm fascinated by exactly the things you discussed in this video. Wonderful interview except why didn't you ask him about beer???
🤦♂️ Good point! Thank you for the comment 😃
Just discovered your channel and I’m really enjoying your content. Thanks for all the great videos.
Thanks for the comment. That's made my day 😃
You take the milestones last, so in the guru strategy you have to fire the first manager you train.
Really?! So it takes yet another round to get there! Thanks for this.
No you don't have to fire the first manager as the trainer milestone cover the cost. As per the rules "If a player at any point in the turn fulfils the requirements of a milestone, he is immediately awarded the milestone card."
A further point is payday is phase 5. So you already have the milestone in effect by the time it comes to paying salaries.
@@SirKarlosG Phew! This makes much more sense. I don't think the Guru strategy would work otherwise. Thanks for clarifying.
Thanks for making this! My group and I are playing Gaia project for the first time today, so these tips should help me- I mean our group get off to a good start!
Perfect rules reminder. Great voice! Thanks!!
At 7:13 you say the coal sits on the mine until other players use it up if it is not connected to a market. What about coal that is on there already but not connected to a market just yet and then you link it to a market. Can it be sold to that market then at that point or does it still just stay there?
Good question. The answer is no. When you link the coal to the market later on remains on the board. There's no way for it to ever flow into the market. The only way it comes off is by players using it.
i was thinking it might be even more advantage to place a town block in that city instead of the first action upgrade. that way EVERY one that does that upgrade will score you
"You're doing great. Hang in there!" 😂 Great job. Thank you for these explanations.
Love your videos mate, wish you made more!
Been thinking about coming back and your comment is food for thought thanks
@UnfussyBoardGames I just wanted to add my voice to this comment as I too would love to see you return in any form. Play what you love Terry. We will be here hoping! 😊
Thanks for the Gaia Project game overview This is indeed good for starters and middle range players
Thanks for the video! I'm playing on my own against Little Automa and I keep losing hahaha! I'll use your strategies to overcome that.
You're welcome mate!
I guess I gotta get this game. Terra Mystica is my favorite resource/territorial management game and the mechanics of this are so similar I think my friends and I could have a competitive game on our first play.
I'm not familiar with Terra Mystica but this one is a masterpiece. What I've heard is that it's got a few tweaks to improve on Terra Mystica.
@@UnfussyBoardGames my main issue with Terra Mystica is that the board feels a little crowded with 4 people and extremely crowded with 5 people. The races that expand a lot like hobbits aren't good at all with 5 people and Chaos Magicians are excellent because they can just sit in one spot and hoard all the favor tiles for income and cult track points. Then there are the giants that are never good.
Hi sir I am in heathfield
Whats your opinions on monopoly?
Hi sir did not know you liked board games 😂😂😂😂😂
I love this tutorial. Learned this game from your video a couple of years ago. Introducing some new friends to the game and did a search looking for your video - found several others that are all subpar in comparison. Thankfully found yours again by searching my view history - great job, thank you so much!
Thanks so much mate! Have fun as you introduce your friends to this classic 😀
Looking forward to play this game again. Never played it with only 3 players. This way there is so much more opportunity to invest. Cool game and funny to see the log. You running start had them by surprise.
Hi. I would very much like to see this video of the amazing board game Gaia Project, but due to the really corny and, for me most irritating music, I can not. Please take away this unnecessary and annoying music so I, and I believe many more board game lovers, could enjoy your videos. When you do I will subscribe to your channel. Thank you in advance.
Noted!
I know this is a 2 year old video but wow what an amazing piece of content. Very valuable information from broad overarching strategy right down to first round tactics. As someone learning and loving Gaia Project I can't thank you enough for the time and effort you put into making this!
Who takes the time to comment on a 2 year old video? You are a wild man and I really appreciate you mate!
Great first game. I’ll pick it up soon
Really cool format, thx
Let's see if I'm able tomorrow to do as you said, and get the right incomes. It will be my second GP game 😉
no plan survives first contact with the enemy and all that... 😁
Thanks for this video> I would like to play the game with 2 players. Do you know the best method. Is blocking off some paths a good idea(keeps it simpler and tighter for two). Yes you could play it each players plays two factions. I saw a picture on BGG of someone who blocked off half of the routes on the england map for a tighter game 2 player game. . has anyone done that ?
I can't imagine playing this two player, sorry! The multiplayer interaction is the key success of this game. Save it for multiplayer games and go for something else would be my advice. But I wouldn't be surprised if there's a way to enjoy it with two
Whoa this makes Lorenzo so thematic for me now!
Just what I was hoping for so this is a great comment, thanks :-)
The turn that took around 10:50 😂 ⚰️
:-D
what platform is this?
Tabletopia
Still my favourite board game, no matter how many others I play.
How are you supposed to play? Do you mix the A, B, C, and D decks together into a giant deck and then randomly deal from that giant deck or do you play the game with either the A, B, C or D decks? Or, do you take an equal number of random cards from each deck?
I just play with the one deck without mixing decks. I believe each deck is designed that way and has certain card combinations that will be missing if you mix them. I can't remember where I read that. Anyway, there's so much variety in each deck there's no need to mix. Thanks for the question.
@@UnfussyBoardGames thanks!
Do you play with each deck seperately or do you mix and match decks into one giant deck?
I think they are designed to be played separately (maybe it says so in the rule book?) and I am not a maverick when it comes to board games. 🙂
This was awesome, thank you for this.
You're welcome thanks! I actually went on to play a game with this podcaster which was cool. THere's a bit of a reaction from him at the end of the strategy video.
That three body problem book on your shelf is great. Btw I'm gonna play this game for the first time today, thanks for the video.
Ha! I meant to have it there the whole video but forgot so that is very well spotted sir.
Great video! please make a video of advanced strategies!
Terry if you're at Gridcon this year we can play !!
Sorry, I won't be there mate. I really appreciate the invite though. Thanks for all your support with this channel. My email is on the about section if you want to message me :-)
That really landed for me. Thank you.
Your multiplayer timer could potentially solve the problem in some points based games. Decide beforehand what's a fair time to deliberate over a move, and (then based on what an average score in the game might be) how many points should be deducted for each minute (or period of X minutes) above that. It's probably not unfair to suggest that a game should test speed of determining strategy rather than merely determining strategy; that's why clocks are used in chess, so why not other games also? It would likely serve to add some extra tension. Depending on how seriously competitive your group is, they could see that as a positive or a negative.
I am going to save this video for a few more plays down the line. I really want t the wisdom now, but I don’t want to spoil the fun of figuring out the puzzle myself. I okayed my third solo game yesterday (I’ve only played solo) and scored 151 which was my best game so far. But I played as the Firaks and their planetary institute unique ability allowed me to March down the research tracks aggressively and that really helped me. I’m still making some mistakes here and there with rules I think, but I can safely say that this game burns my brain in a way very few have. Sometimes after some extremely dense inner thought and planning my brain almost taps out because it’s got cognitive overload by the sheer processing I’m doing lol. You know I remember as a kid wanting a game that would guarantee that my fate was in my hands totally…. A game whose result would always 100% be about my own decisions and my decisions alone… and this is it. So rad. Liked and subscribed.
loved reading this comment. In another video I said it was like how a spider can sense the slightest twang on the furthest thread of the web. The game has so much going on while at the same time (through excellent game design and iconography etc) you are just about able to keep track of everything that's going on.
Just what this newbie needed to understand the basics on how to form a strategy with this game. Being an "introvert" here, I love the Automa engine this game brings with it to help me hone my strategy when there is no one around to get a game going. Thanks a lot and look forward to more videos
Double appreciation for the comment from the introvert! Thanks mate.
Great summary. Thanks
I have been reading and researching this game looking for rules, gameplay, strategies, etc and your explanations gave a lot of helpful tips! I may continue to lose each game I play (LOL) but at least I'd like to have a better understanding of *why* the other players are getting double the points I got. (* and of course improve my outcome.) Overall, games in this genre have many layers and figuring out the components ie: the research tracks, actions, structures, power rotation is key to the decision making.
Nice one Scott. I am glad that you found this video helpful mate. Check out this guy for some guitar outer space themed songs ;-D ruclips.net/video/WcqKUhU0WDc/видео.html
Gaia project fascinating game. But getting clobbered by veterans dampens the experience somewhat 😅 that's why I came here thanks for the tips!
Thanks Fredz! Appreciate the comment :-)
Played it 500 times in 2 years, mostly with help of Brass Discord. And now it is #1 in BGG.
What about Russia these days?
I watch UK Column News to find out about Russia. I also recommend watching Century of Enslavement by The Corbett report. It turns out this game is a pretty accurate description of current world economics! I hope you are well mate 😃
After looking at your channel, you haven’t done too many of the how to videos…. Of all the games how did Hansa get on your radar?
It's been a favourite for some years and I had taught it a good few times by the time the reprint was published. I thought, "I should make a video about that!" and jumped to it. My How to Videos don't get recommended because there's too much out there on RUclips.
@@UnfussyBoardGames yeah, I know they’re hard work, but your format is a little different… In a good way. I think about creating my own RUclips channel on BoardGames called “… hear myself talk channel… “ ; there are so many channels. I’m sure only my kids will watch my videos; maybe.
@@UnfussyBoardGames well, I’m just glad I was looking up Hansa rules last night and found your channel.
@@greginfla_1 "...hear myself talk channel..." Sounds intriguing! Sounds like a different format also!
Dude, so clear and concise..... very refreshing format. My only susgestion is add time stamps on rule topics 3:41 displacment rules
Wow, I didn't know about these - seriously! :-D Thank you for your comments.
