Great shot! I'm looking at a 1926 Model T Tudor sedan and this is the closest I've gotten to seeing how they handle regarding their suspension. Are they as flexible and agile as earlier models despite their heavier body or are they less "off-roady" and more accustomed to driving on paved roads?
The Improved 1926/27 are a little lower, with a little less ground clearance than earlier models. But they still MUCH prefer gravel roads and dirt tracks to paved roads.
More offroad slomo here ruclips.net/video/sb4l3PjAWlE/видео.html
Muy lindo !
Nice tour and nice cars. There's something soothing about hearing a T engine running smoothly. Part of touring is hearing rhe engine. Something you don't hear much in new cars with all the sound deadening material and quiet exhaust systems. Enjoyable video .
I'm with you. The sound is a crucial part of the tour experience!
Great video. Thanks
Glad you liked it!
Wow a lot Model Ts. Showed up
Yup. It was neat. I've never been in the presence of more than one or two. Kinda overwhelming
Great... as usual!
Too kind.
Muy bueno, lastima que hoy no hay subtítulos, saludos
Great job on this video, good narration too!
Thank you kindly!
I'm glad it was an easy repair. Thanks for sharing. I never remember to remove the floor boards!
You tow in an enclosed trailer, don't you? Is it still a good idea to remove the floorboards?
@flivverchannel yes I do. Most definitely. The boards could still bounce out and hit the brake light switch or any number of things. When we picked the 1920 truck up in Connecticut and brought it back to South Carolina, one of the hood pins actually bounced out. I saw it on the floor and at first wasn't sure what the spring was. Obviously the previous owner didn't have the cotter Pin adequately bent over.
thanks heading out for a 10 mile round trip next week
Excellent
Muy lindo!
Thanks Pablo!
Great video, I tour in a 26’ Tudor. I like to carry window cleaning supplies and a camp chair when I prepare for a tour. Thanks for the great content on your channel. Keep on T-ing
Good tip about window cleaner... You can see some smudges on my windshield in some of my forward - facing clips. I sure wish I had cleaned it before filming!
I would love to go on a Model T tour, last one I was on was around 1999, maybe 2000 and my Dad's 27 touring ate the teeth for low gear around Ancaster. Havent been on a tour since.
That's a shame. Is the car fixed?
@flivverchannel Yeah, he got the engine and transmission rebuilt around 2005. 2 years ago, the pinion in the differential lost a few teeth, which has been rebuilt now, too. Needs body work and seat springs and a top, but it runs and drives great. I was out driving it around on Sunday.
Another good video. Thanks
Thanks Jim
I watched your video on how a ford model t transmission works, to try and get a better understanding. I had been confused by the clutch peddle but hearing you explain that bands are engaging or releasing the drums makes more sense. Question: do you halfway depress the left peddle in order to pull the hand break lever all the way back
When you pull the handbrake all the way back, it engages drum brakes on both back wheels. If the left pedal was up or down, the car would stall. But there is a linkage on the handbrake that forces the left pedal into half-way-down neutral, so you don't actually have to do it with your feet
Ok thank you for the information. The hand break easily goes into middle neutral and forward high gear position but feels like it’s getting hung up on something when pulling all the way back. The car is not running but attempting to crank start but still feels like the transmission is engaged by the force needed to turn it. Do you have any suggestion for what that could be or direction for me to troubleshoot. Thank you
this really amazes me, i know very little about the model T, i am astounded that this is not that different than a 3 speed automatic from a 67 chevy impala
Design evolution! Fascinating, isn't it?
What makes exactly the difference from Low gear to Reverse gear? At first look the tripple planet will give the same direktion of Rotation of the Output shaft when you are stoping those brakedrums. Is there any combination with the clutch from high gear or the output brake?
Stay tuned and subscribe. I am making a specific video better explaining reverse. Thanks for commenting!
i bet many people traded in or sold their Ts as fast as they could once a sliding gear typical clutch model A came around
Ts could be bought for very little $ in the 40s and 50s. Nobody wanted that 'old' stuff anymore.
I have a 24 Model T roadster..In order to apply the brake(right pedal) you have to have the left pedal (High neutral Low ) held in the neutral position. Because if it is not in neutral it will stall the engine. So you must use 2 feet to brake the car.. Same with reverse (Middle)..The neutral position must be held (left pedal) and then push the center pedal to create reverse.. I have Rocky mountain brakes on my T..A big handle on the left of the driver that when pulled backwards, puts the left pedal in the neutral position and applies band brakes on the rear axle So I don't even use the right pedal..Just the handle..When you pull back a small amount of the handle, it will engage neutral and you can use that to engage reverse.. So you are only using one foot for everything you need..Brake(No pedals needed for that with the RM brakes)..Reverse with the handle in neutral.. Rocky mountain brakes really were an improvement!!
There is no problem braking with only one foot at first, as the engine-and-car slow together. But you are perfectly correct that it takes two feet to come to a stop or the car will stall. Or one foot and pull the hand-brake lever to mid position (which forces the high/low pedal into middle neutral. I am only passingly familiar with Rocky Mountain brakes. Most installations that I have seen connect the actuator rods to the brake pedal. But interesting that your Rocky Mountain brakes are only connected to the hand brake lever. Thanks for the great disucssion!
Saw your post in Reddit, so here I am. Interesting channel!
Great! All are welcome. We also do Livestreams on the first Thursday of every month, 8pm eastern.
There are 2 winding's in the cut out. One is for back current and you did not ex plane it. If you don't know electronics please don't put out misinformation.
Thanks for your feedback. Please provide specific quotes and references where I am incorrect, with clear corrections. I would welcome correction as I strive to learn more.
@@flivverchannel The original cut outs have second coil winding that when it gets a high 7 voltage from the battery it weaken the generator relay ( first thick winding) and the cutout, opens the (cut out) points and prevents over charging the battery You must have a full understanding of electric science, witch most people on You tube DON'T HAVE, but give incomplete information. I hope this helps understand the full workings of the original cut outs.
@@MartinSBrown-tp9jithank you for the explanation of the two cutout windings. I understand their function. I rewatched this video now. I do not see where I provide misinformation. Can you provide a timecode where I give false or misleading info? I would like to correct it, if I do.
What I don't understand is the need to hold a pedal to be in neutral. Didn't a lot of these T's need to be started with a hand crank from the front of the vehicle? Wouldn't that be a Darwinist move when the transmission is always in gear?
True! And Ts have injured and killed owners over the last century. Yes, the shifter pedal must be held in the middle position for neutral... To start, there is a linkage on the handbrake lever to force the pedal to neutral. But it can fail, and then the car lunges forward...
Did you say “Curry Flyer”?
😅 I mumble. "prairie flyer"
Do like those brakes… I kept 6v in mine. I converted it to starter and works fantastic with starter, although most of the time I get free starts even from cold. I will be fitting a small inverter under the dash to convert 6 to 12v for a usb port and also 12v headlight bulbs and brake light.
Sounds great!
Really enjoyed your video. Please post the wiring diagram for your buzz box Ammeter. I want to build one also. You have posted a few pictures but not a schematic of the wiring of an ammeter. Thank you.
Muy bueno!
😊
Hopefully you and Vince could do another video on the Snowmobile racing his family was into. Who was the mechanic, who rode, etc. I recall reading/hearing about their great success in the local media but had forgotten the family name. I believe they competed against factory backed racers but not certain of the whole story---whether they had any backing? It would be an interesting story/video.
Great idea!
Snubbers was a name for some early shocks.
Thanks! I just couldn't think of the word in the moment. Froze on camera..
The cylindrical cardboard covered dry cell telephone batteries were typically used to fire the ignition on Model T’s when hand cranking a car with no starter. Once it was running, it could be switched to magneto. They were also used as a sole ignition power source on the earlier cars (like the N, R, S Models).
So interesting. I need to look into that more.
😊 thank you for the video!
Glad you liked it! More to come in the series....but it takes me a while to do each one.
What did the other tourers think of your side curtains? Sure kept you dry!
I'm not really sure. They didn't seem to notice.
Interesting, my Uncle (now deceased) used to help another man run the sawmill at the Manitoba Thresherman's Reunion many years ago. I think they had a steam engine powering it. Also believe the other man owned the sawmill at the time.
That's a neat connection.
Great video, and a great job with the curtains. I too experienced my first ever tour in late June 2024 in our 1915 Touring. It was the Wander around Walkerton Tour sponsored by the Horseless Carriage Club of America, Southern Ontario Chapter, and day 1 was stinking hot and it poured days 2 and 3, including tornado warnings. My top is good but no side curtains but we had our rain gear with us so it wasn't as bad as it could have been. I should point out I am also new to this car and T ownership, having just got it in April. I did have the foresight to apply Rain-X to the windshield and it worked pretty good. Got another tour in the books for late August near Barrie Ontario at the Canadian Festival of Old Cars as well as showing our cars at the local museum. Also sponsored by HCCA-SO chapter and the Canadian Automotive Museum in Oshawa. Looking forward to it.
That's great. We need more tour-ists like us!
So the amateur tour “er” may have been the best prepared of all 😊
Doubt that.... But it went well!
Makes perfect sense clear side curtains especially these days with heavy traffic. No loss of visibility which there is with the original curtains. Makes it much safer if you get caught in the rain which on most tours there is a bit of as I remember. Something most wives with a sewing machine could easily make. So simple even a man could do it. Anything is possible! Short video with a great idea. And that's all that's really necessary.
Thanks Russel. My wife is blushing
Muy bueno!
Thanks!
A few years ago I became interested in how the Model T transmission worked. No one at the car club knew. I could find very little on the internet about it, and what there was was not sufficient for me to figure out how it worked. Thank you for finally presenting this material in a clear and complete manner.
My pleasure, Glad it helped with your understanding. Cheers!
Great job with the side curtains. We wear rain slickers. We also have them when we ride the motorcycle. Bruce, Barb Deb and I did a 3 hour mini tour today .no breakdown.

Awesome video, Steven! It was a fantastic tour and you did a great job introducing model T touring in the first video of the series.
Thanks! I am looking forward to working with you on the Touring on a Budget episode.
What is the average or normal speed of the Model T
On tour, we were typically running 25 to 30 mph. Top speed in a T, comfortably, is like 35 to 40 mph... but they are happier down at 30!

I've watched your various T/A wheel videos with interest. I do notice though, that they suggest wheels changed from 21" to 19" when the T became the A. No mention of the '28/'29 21" wheels. Especially odd given that those years account for the majority of Model A production.
Yes, 21 in. Model A wheels are very common. I could have chosen those, but I opted for the 19 in. wheels to give me the larger tires, and softer ride (low tire pressure). I think it looks neat too, with the 'fat' tires!
@@flivverchannel I agree. The car looks 'chunkier' and less flimsy. Are 21" model A tyres the same width as 21" T tyres?
@@VintageLifeCars yes. 21in tires are identicle for Ts and As. Wheels are different tho
