YOUR SURPRISE VIEW IN THE PEAK DISTRICT. #peakdistrictphotography #peakdistrict #heather #nikond850
I planned a trip to Surprise View in the Peak District to capture the start of the heather season. On arrival I had a very nice surprise as the light instantly kicked off with added rain. At least the midges took shelter. I continued to explore and capture the heather in all it's splendor. The light eventually came back out ramping up the gorgeous colors that the heather can produce. As well as stills with the Nikon D850 I also grab some stills with the drone capturing the landscape wearing it's awesome velvet jacket.

Hi Craig I definitely need to go back to this location. I've only visited a couple of times, once in the snow when I slid about 50m down the side of one of the hills (can't remember which one) and there was loads of mist (too much) the other time for sunset but the light was terrible. I've seen some stunning images from the classic location. Regarding the No.1 Peak District location I'd say it needs to be somewhere that offers multiple compositions at all times of the year and in all weathers. Although not one location I love around Surprise View / Padley / Longshaw Estate and Big Moor (White Edge) You can access all these from one parking location so that's my No.1 (location) I'll be on Big Moor the 1st weekend in October for the Red Deer Rut. If you've never been I'd definitely recommend a visit. You will need the 100-400mm lens

Hi Paul, I am determined to get a cloud inversion sunrise this year. I know it will take a few attempts. I have also seen some stunning shots which challenges me to get my own. The walk up on Monday was relatively dry and easy. In the damp early morning autumn months it is not so easy to climb that hill. Big Moor Deer rut (not been there) sounds interesting. I will note that ,it could be up Eddies street as well. Agree with Padley, Surpise View, and Longshaw. Heather season is up next. Thank you for watching.

Hi Gene. First you need to ask yourself what more do you want from your photography? and what subjects do you photograph? D500 DX format 20.9 MP sensor to the D850 FX format 45.7 MP sensor will give you a leap in image quality. However the D850 will produce larger files for your computer to deal with. To get comparable image quality to the D850 in Mirrorless you would need to look at the Z7ii or the Z8. The D850 is at a very competitive price at the moment. Second hand FX lenses are also plentiful. Having said all that I will direct you back to the first line and ask yourself that question and work from there. The D850 is a very capable workhorse of a camera and has the ability to deliver stunningly detailed images. You are very welcome to reply with any further questions. Thank you for watching.

@@craig.yates_photography4907 Thanks, Craig for a timely reply. My interest in photography is from a hobbyist perspective (not professional). I go for walks and shoot BIF and other animals. I have recently become interested in macro photography which led to my interest in the D850 with it's in camera stacking feature (not in the D500). I rented a D850 for a week and enjoyed using it. My PC handles the files just fine. However, I don't have a 4K monitor so most of the pics I took with the D850 did not look noticeably different from those I took with the D500. I tend to do a lot of cropping so the D850 should provide more pixels to work with. I only print what I believe to be exceptional pictures -- meaning not many :) I would likely not keep my D500 so my investment in a D850 could be manageable. Again, I appreciate your comments and advice. Regards, Gene

I hate when people litter.I have a Nat Park about 8 miles from my house & it sits at the entrance to NY Harbor/ & Sandy Hook Bay. Tons of garbage wash up on the bayside shore. Probably swept into the water by wind plus currents & tides. Also, some people just leave it there because it is a carry in, carry out policy at the park & they don't want to put their days trash in their new vehicles. Really pisses me off. Anyway, some nice photos. I use the Nikon D810 & the MC 105G lens. Sometimes I think about getting a wider macro or extension tubes for the 105 plus a macro rail. You should get that cracked viewfinder replaced. Happy shooting.

Hi Thomas, Littering is just not acceptable. As I walk through the countryside I see a growing number of dog poo bags just left on the side of footpaths. Do people think that these will get collected. Strange that people can make the effort the pack up the poo into bags, tie them up, but cannot quite manage to dispose of them into the correct bin. It makes my blood boil. Thank you for watching.

@@craig.yates_photography4907 See that at the park mentioned also. The path is a heavily used paved path maintained by park maintenance & thank you that it gets picked up. One thing is there is a steady support of volunteers who do cleanups & get rewarded with a lunch. They usually don’t do some of the heavier littered areas along the bay. Park picks where they go. Probably because of a heavy tick population & some really mean poison ivy in the park, the areas they pick are limited. Thanks for relying, happy shooting.

Hi Steve and welcome to the channel. In some of my videos I do put the camera settings with each image. Then I stopped, as the light conditions can vary so much and possibly seeing them might be misleading. However I do listen to my audience, so I will introduce them back in withing the next video. original and edited versions would be simple to introduce as well. For jaw dropping images you very much need a good base composition to work with, including some great light that's fits the scene, which does not always come together for us. Sometimes a jaw dropping scene needs very little editing as nature can do all the work for you. I shoot in Raw and hand edit every image. Thank you for subscribing to the channel and for watching the video. Go out and enjoy your photography it can be so rewarding.

Also Humberstone - which is a small village near here is called Humberstone becaue my Great Grandfather recovered ia large stone from from the Humber (annoying stone for small boats as slack tide) and places in the village now called Humberstone (its nest to the Chruch if anyone wants to see it!)

Hi I come from a few miles from this locationn 'Fitties' - Cleethorpes The Forts werre part of a defence systems to stop submarines entering the Humber. Between the coast and the Forts the water was too shallow for submarines to pass without having to surface and be seen and as a result attacked. Threre was an anti submarine net stretehed across beteen the two Forts at a depth that allowed normal surface boats to pass unhindered but any submarine would have to surface to get past and be attacked by being on the surface.

Nicely done , Mr H&S . Like the long lens of Spurn Head and the forts, and the last ones from the drone. Why not soften the horizon on the last mono, and you have another Fart, it would lend itself to it.

Great video Craig, nice to see somebody featuring this part of the country for a change. It might not have the hilly drama of the Lakes or the Peaks but it does have its own particular type of beauty. I think my favourites were also the drone stills. They really made the area look anything but ' flat and boring ' Cleethorpes. They could have been taken on the North African coast. Thanks again and keep up the great videos.

Cheers Chris, you are spot on, it does have it's own particular type of beauty and as well as the Peaks and the Lakes we should showcase the lesser known areas. I had a few nervous moments discovering the hidden mud under the sand, But I thoroughly enjoyed that mornings challenge. Thank you for watching.

For my use, the only advantage for the mirrorless Nikon system is the IBIS, which the D850 doesn't have. I certainly don't need all those frames per second and subject tracking. But on the D850, you can employ a lens that incorporates VR. I still have my D800E as a backup to my Fuji GFX 100S.

Thanks Craig. Adding to your comment about a sign, I’d like to add that a notice prominently displayed on their website would also help and cost even less. Nevertheless you took some good images. I had it on my radar for autumn but don’t want a wasted visit, so I’ll have to think again.

Hi Trevor. I was quite wound up by the time I had walked to the bottom and found that closed as well. Yes the website could easily have that nugget of information displayed, informing us how long the bridge replacements are going to take. I am hoping that by autumn the track is fully open with full access, allowing us to capture some epic autumnal waterfall scenes. Thank you for watching.

  • @tuftyhill

Hi Craig thankfully I have visited twice previously and got images of at least two of the bridges. As you mentioned, depending on the style of replacement bridges those images may not be able to be replicated. Looking forward to seeing the path open again ready for the Autumn

Hi Paul,.The workmen I spoke too seemed to think the work to replace the bridges would be completed within 2 weeks.
