Generation War: Wilhelm Winter - German Penal Unit WW2 1/6 Scale
In this video, I dive into a detailed breakdown of a German penal battalion soldier during World War II, featuring a custom-built 1/6 scale figure inspired by the character Wilhelm. This unique WW2 German impression showcases the M43 tunic, stripped of rank insignia, as well as the unorthodox equipment choices typically seen in German probationary units.
I discuss the harsh reality of Strafbataillon soldiers who faced severe punishment and lost their rights and honor. The figure also features artistic elements, like the red triangle, representing penal status, and the white "X" marking from the movie Hauptmann.

1/6 scale WW2 German Impression The 1st Marine-Infanterie had been formed in February of 1945 from the Marine-Schützen-Brigade Nord, the Kriegsmarine’s coastal defense force in the North Sea. Large numbers of sailors were transferred to bolster the formation, and thousands went into action still wearing their naval uniforms. #history #ww2 #ww2germany

Keep up the good work! Your teaching at the same time! Most excellent.
Another amazing figure! This one is very unique!
Thank you!
Very nice.
Thanks man!
How do you make these figures?
Hi, these are 1/6 scale models. Essentially dress up dolls for history buffs. Ken gets conscripted etc
One of your best figures! I really enjoyed this one. Keep up the amazing work!
Thank you! My next figure will be right up there in terms of uniqueness
Very informative
Thank you, full video and all the historical context is in my channel
I've been in this hobby for a while. You did a outstanding job! Great figure for the subject!
Thanks Chuck, really appreciate it! This hobby and the creative process is a real art
Love seeing this! There were two Marine Infanterie Divisions Formed in February of 1945. The 1st on the Oder front and the 2nd went to the western front. There is a great color film reel available on youtube that those photos came from. Marine-Infanterie is a big niche of mine. Unfortunately they did not wear the blue uniform, the Kriegsmarine had its own feldgrau uniform, I made a video about it years ago if you'd want to check it out. You still see blue caps though sometimes. Keep up the good work man!
Wow how did I not come across this during my research. Thank you so much for the info, I’ll feel much better now when I (down the road) parse this figure out to do other impressions. Do you happen to know if they had blue bread bags? I know late way they went all feldgrau but early war Naval infantry was still all blue
what is important to note is that even tho those guys had been navy men they still had gone through basic training and had gootten famiiliar with all the basic tools and weapons you cannot compare the wehrmachts basic training to todays basic training in modern armies anyway today they teach you back then they broke you and asembled you back the way they wanted you to be, those guys went into basic traning as 17 year old boys and came out as already hardened men
100%, all naval personnel got basic training, and these Kreigsmarine guys were very likely better than regular army replacements that got rushed up the front in just a couple of weeks. However, they still got shredded by Red Army which was on a tear: - The real cream of the Kreigsmarine probably already got called up to form Volksgrenadier divisions - They lacked the hard core fighting of real veterans on the Russian side - Absolute lack of combined arms ability
never saw much relating to the kriegsmarine naval infantry, good video.
Thank you very much! These niche stuff are right up my alley
Awesome video, where is the intro scene clipped from from?
Thank you thank you, I found the intro from an Operation bagration documentary, the voices I generated with AI
Game clip was from COD vanguard
Very nice impression. I have a marine but its far from this one.
Thank you, I’m looking forward to check yours out
@@TheWarRoomChannel Its in my channel ;)
Very nice figure! Excellent work!
Thank you very much!
I always enjoy watching it. Thank you for the great video. Also, I am very interested in the unit that was created as a last-ditch at the end of the war. Please keep making good videos.
Thank you Troika! This one was very fun to make and I’m hoping to have some new inspirations soon
Love the video. very nice impression. I saw the movie 1944, Great. The cigar in the ear give me some ideas...
Thank you very much man! Your comment puts a smile on my face :) Just uploaded a new one, hope you enjoy that too!
Interesting tunic on the guy with the stalhelm, his collar tabs are dark blue in color. I’ve never seen that before is that historically accurate or just something you added on because it’s definitely nice.
Thank you friend, this one was a uboat coat, definitely less covered than army stuff. Germans had a decent amount of coats with darker collar
@@TheWarRoomChannel not he coat itself which I was referencing, but the collar tab on his tunic underneath his coat. I’ve never seen dark blue-ish collar tabs before which part of the army had those?
That is the collar of his coat. It’s not the same leather material. Regarding the silver diamond, HJ units often directly affix them to their coats. He doesn’t have a tunic under his coat, he has a white undershirt which is unseen
@@TheWarRoomChannel yeah, that’s what I meant. Thank you for clarifying that, the only thing is that I don’t think the HJ had diamond collar tabs I thought that was the vulksturm
@nediji4rjoij4ro you’re absolutely right. These guys are HJ conscripted into the Volkssturm and hence started using Volkssturm ranking indicators. I’m glad you found my channel I hope you are enjoying the content! It’s been quite awhile since I posted
Really incredible tunic & uniform. Rarely any photos or surviving tunics still exist today, how were you able to make such a detailed model with barely any information existing on what they wore. This is simply incredible
Thank you very much, it was hard at first, but I actually read some German so I was able to do some additional research using that language
This is outright nazi propaganda. The Holocaust has totally disappeared, as has the mass killings of tens of thousands of enemys to Germany. The division is presented as Estonian while of course it was German, composed of mostly forcibly drafted Estonians together with a thousand or so of Holocaust perpetrators (Estonians willingly participated in the Holocaust also in neighboring countries, always of course under German command).
Hey @matsdeland, i didn’t see this comment until now. You’re absolutely right, Estonians contributed to a whopping 20 something police units. I hope I didn’t whitewash them in the video. These guys were brutal and frankly I don’t feel that comfortable still doing SS impressions
Hi, nice one. You may consider to use a fabric glue to attach figure patches.
Thank you! Yeah I actually just got some so I’m not destroying all my tunics
My great uncle served in the RAD before going into the Wehrmacht on the Russian front. I have 2 photos of him in the RAD, including his company photo and his photo and his portrait photo of him in the RAD uniform.
Thank you for sharing, I hope he made it through the war
@@TheWarRoomChannelthank you. sadly he died in December 1942.
Cool looking figure. Though i find it mildly hilarious the likeness is Peiper
Inflation hitting my hobby budget hard haha

Looks great! Those collar tabs are so unique.
Thank you, that’s why I love customizing. I have more in my channel!
Beautiful figure. Does the SVT-40 parts move?
For some models they do, the bolt can pull back and magazine can detach. But the piece is like 10 years old so I never to pull back the bolt

Beautiful figure! Could you try doing an FJR 1 in Crete impression?
Thank you, I actually have it on my list! Recently saw images of Fallschirmjagers in Crete wearing what appears to be captured allied shorts, now I’m trying to figure out if they switched over to low cut boots as well or kept their para boots
@@TheWarRoomChannel I believe the shorts are the M40 variant. They were designed for DAK troops but the Kreigsmarine and luftwaffe also received them. I have seen a photo of a FJ member wearing the M40 shorts and the type 1 jump boots. Certainly an interesting look. 🤣
@kollectklub lol I’m pretty sure we’re talking about the same photos
Thier comanders had no combat training or experience
Absolutely, 16th ss probably formed from political maneuvering, another inefficient use of German manpower. They did ok repressing people in Hungary and “fighting partisans” in Italy
Looks like a Palestinian tunic
Die Nationalsozialisten haben den 2 Weltkrieg begonnen und heute wollen die Internationalsozialisten den 3 Weltkrieg beginnen.
Any prove there was ss units in africa? Pls give me some links and prove
I don’t think large ss formations went in Africa, but they did have their own tropical tunic which is shown here. The 16th ss here ended up fighting in Italy, my comment was this guys has the classic afrika-korps look
Well he does have an "Africa corpse look," because he looks dead.
Lol the German is Afrikakorps I’m not sure if the s is silent Sick profile btw
Awesome how you made a video with an impression👍👍👍
Thank you! That’s what I do in my main channel, sending these shorts out as trailers

Any news for your upcoming total war mod?
Thanks for following me here! Unfortunately that project is just way too time consuming for me to keep going. I do have a figure here inspired by Attila total war, maybe I’ll do a total war unit custom unit showcase down the road if there’s interest
@@TheWarRoomChannel mind share the progress that you made?
Unfortunately I deleted what I had (which was a lot, reskinned a few factions and started redoing starting positions) lol It was just too much of a time sink and I can’t see myself investing more
@@TheWarRoomChannel we could use that for someone else to continue, anyway
My granduncle fought at Anzio. He made it back, but he was a nervous wreck for some time.
