    I finished the sensor relocation on my 2003 C5 about a year ago. I originally did this job about 2 years ago but I didn't install the extender. So, here we are again. (I bought the extender hose with fittings on Amazon for $99). I didn't want to disturb the manifold and I didn't want to drill any holes. I did not remove anything except the plastic engine cover. Although it was a royal pain in the butt, I was able to disconnect the old sensor and pull it out. For me, the hardest part was threading the extender hose into the engine. I could not get the threads lined up while rotating the hose. Now, my oil pressure gage is no longer pegged at 80 PSI. Now it sits rock steady at 42 PSI at cold idle. If (when?) this new sensor fails, it will be very easy to replace it.

    You can also back out all 3 ball joint bolts bit by bit all the same time with flat wrench. Whole assembly rises up, giving room to get the bolts out of the axle and you can get it out in one piece. Not a lot of room to do it, but mine has very little rust, so I only wanted to change the joint, not the whole thing, so got lucky with the bolts not being rusted on solid. On the sidenote... PU bushings all around the suspension made a lot of difference in handling departement, have a lot less side-to-side sway that was there even with new stock bushings. Especially lower arm ovals, stock ones are really too flexible for highway.

    I'm not seeing the need for the reamer. Wouldn't a sharp regular drill bit work as well? Of course, you'd have to work up to 5/8", so I guess it saves a couple steps.

    • @DilemmaMedia
      @DilemmaMedia 6 месяцев назад

      Step up bit could definitely work for sure as long as you use a good cutting oil to keep the bit sharp as possible and as cool as possible!

    Im definitely getting this for my WJ, I always thought the whole tie rod set up is a very outdated concept because the rubber boots fail so quickly and you almost have to replace them every year....a buddy of mine suggested to coat the boots with silicone to protect them which does work but it's best to just eliminate that whole nonsense set up

    I just did this install, one of the reasons this kit is intended for OTK is to put the linkage back to the correct geometry and eliminate bump steer! Pro tip……always torque the nut side of the fastener when possible and also use a breaker/cheater bar to tighten the set nut on the heim joints or they will come loose quick on you.

    That’s a lot of work man, you’ve got more balls than I do. My HUD works fine but, when you look down in there, the glass is foggy for some reason so I’ve been thinking about doing something about it. Let me know when you’re ready, I think it’s better to just have you do it, cool?

  • @richardelliott8352
    @richardelliott8352 6 месяцев назад

    I have the same problem , said to be more common on lowered cars because of the rougher ride, and dread taking apart the dash, but also don't really want to pay the extensive labor costs for what is essentially a low skill task, and that might be given to a guy who might snap old plastic in haste. Glad to have learned there is a repair part available. Previously I had only seen DIY metal wire or screw fixes, which considering the labor involved to get to the repair might have a durability advantage, but I'll just go with the plastic pre made part anyway, trusting it might fit better than my attempts at a first time mirror support fabrication.

    Ya you don't need to remove that ball joint if your gonna replace the unit ... however if your gonna use the same A arm and replace the bushings and ball joint the easiest way to separate that ball joint is to loosen the top nut about 5 turns then drive around the block and hit a couple bumps and it will separate, you will hear it..... relax its not dangerous lol...... also if your wj has more than a 4 inch lift like mine then you will need to order the 2 inch spacer for the A arm otherwise it will wear out fast 🤘🍺
