Matt Sorum was a great fit for Velvet Revolver, I’ll give him that. But I’m sorry to say that he simply never worked as a drummer for GnR, in my opinion. Steven had a certain unmistakeable groove and flow to his drumming that elevated the sound of the whole band. The quality of the music took a big nosedive after he was fired. I understand why he was fired, I’m just saying, it was a shame. Sorum sounded too much like a metronome. Too static. I would even go so far as to say that he was boring, even if he was technically skilled. The death blow, of course, happened when Izzy quit. Not only did he co-write MANY of the songs, but when Gilby was playing with them, you couldn’t even hear his guitar at all. Compare that with this video, where you can clearly hear Izzy and Slash separately. That lead/rhythm guitar duality was just as important in GnR as it was in AC/DC. Gilby may as well have not even been there and you wouldn’t even hear the difference. Just watch the 1992 Tokyo Dome show: All you can hear is Slash. It just doesn’t sound right. GNR were really only good from 1986 - 1990, maybe 1991. After that, they were a shell of their former selves. Steven and Izzy leaving completely fucked up the original sound and vibe that made them so special. Again, I understand why it all happened. Steven was a massive heroin addict and Izzy couldn’t stand what Axl was becoming and also was uncomfortable with how massive the band had become and all the chaos that was going along with it. This band simply was never destined to last long. It’s amazing they lasted as long as they did. They sure left us with some great tracks though.

Love Izzy. It’s so unfortunate however that’s he’s not written anything amazing since leaving GNR in the 90’s. I truly wish he’d come back on strange and join the band once more.

Last guitar solo it doesn’t have any sense. It seems slash work just on the musical scale, and don’t think about chords at all. A lot of guitar players in the rock 80s / 90s does this mistake. I use to like it as teenager. But today it sounds a bit idiot to me

Guess Slash introduced it because it was ( is ) his favorite song to play live . It’s a great rock song. Read the books if you have a chance. They tell about how they wrote a lot of the songs it’s pretty cool they would be hanging out and someone would sing something like a joke lyric. That’s how nightrain someone said I’m on the night train and Axl said love that stuff they were hanging out drinking like a lot of us do at that age except they crafted their little inside joke/jingles into the finest rock n roll album of all time . Appetite is the album that started it all for me at least .

This was the real Gnr Prime and it was at their peak. 87-88 gnr was the real deal at that time. everyone was young energetic and other than that this was the ORIGINAL MEMBERS. God how i miss Adam and Izzy presence. it's still different when this two is a member. 90-92 was kind mehh they are still great and they've become matured at that year but you can see and feel that energy was the never the same when Adam and Izzy left.

I was amazed back then that there was a kick ass song about my favorite adult beverage. The label on Night Train at the time was a head on view of the engine in Raiders silver and black. We took years off of our lives drinking that swill and smoking Magna cigarettes, but it was a fun time to be young.
