    Great video. Just an FYI meant to be constructive. There is no "my frequency" in any radio service. All bands are shared. Even if you have an FCC business license for a particular frequency, you must yield the channel to other licensed users. The ambulance guys assuming they have GMRS licenses have every right to use the frequency as anyone else who has a license. There is plenty of unlicensed bandwidth for people to mess around with ie FRS, MURS and the ISM band. I recommend anyone interested in preparedness buy a couple of radios and get them in service monitoring the airwaves in your area.

  • @EvanBlack72

    Tech is incredibly easy to get and you get part of the HF bands. 10 meter SSB with 100watt limit can get you very far. Getting general class and HF gets wild. Even just a few watts on a pocket size radio and some wire, can get you hundreds of miles. (check out K6ARK) This biggest benefit of of amateur radio in really understanding how it all works so you can get the best of your communications equipment.

    YES! There is a confusion on who created Millennials and Gen Z softies, and it's not just one generation! Every Gen has a tough and weak side (Millennials got most of the weak by default). Every Gen has the strong and the weak minded. Depending on how generational strong or weak you were raised depends on the next gen outcome. As a Gen X'er and veteran that rode the fine line of both strong and weak, I saw bullies that mentally destroyed other Gen X kids while also peaking in high school and tried to relive their youth through their kids. I've also seen the ones bullied for some reason thinking now is the time to pick a fight with kids. It's hilarious and sad at the same time. We have knowledge from Boomers and even the older Silent and Greatest generation. We are the last of the historians and should keep the knowledge flowing as you would a book on survival skills. Let them interpret it as they want, but at least you have passed down the legacy.

    When the remnants of Hurricane Helene hit here and points north of me, nearly no current info was available from broadcasting and most of the usual non-broadcast communication systems failed. Even many Police and Fire departments in the affected areas lost some or all of their comms. There was one notable exception: Ham Radio like the radio shown here was giving accurate real-time info on what the dangers were and where they were occurring. Many rescues were facilitated by Ham radio in this disaster because no other was was possible. It's not hard to get an entry-level license; I've spoken to 9 year olds who got their licenses. In urban situations FRS channels will be crowded which can be good or bad depending on what you need. GMRS will probably be a better choice if you want fewer other people listening in,, and some GMRS radios cover FRS channels too. CB is still a thing though even truckers have gotten away from it and it's as bad as ever but it may fit your needs. The latest unlicensed text-by-radio comms are called "LoRa" or "Meshtastic" which forms a free-to-use network of radios which will have nearly as good a coverage and range as cellphones when it fully matures. It isn't dependent on grid power with most units using USB rechargeable batteries which can be handled by small solar. Each unit resends what it hears 'leapfrogging' messages along, and text messages can be configured to going to a single user or to multiple users. It's relatively cheap, fairly user-friendly, and worth watching with many larger cities already having coverage. I think it's going to become a prepper's favorite once enough people get involved.

    • @TheUrbanSentinelChannel
      @TheUrbanSentinelChannel 6 дней назад

      Tell your friend first identify the channels that have traffic and where they are. If your friend wants to see how far their signal reaches, maybe a brief "radio check, how do you read me?" They may get a response on how many watts their signal broadcasting. I'd play it safe and listen more than talk.

    • @P_RO_
      @P_RO_ 6 дней назад

      Most of these types of radios either already can or can be easily made to operate outside of Ham band limits. Avoid government-assigned frequency segments and the Ham bands and listen for long times in many locations to find somewhere to operate, and you'll likely have no problems. In less populous areas the "color dot" business frequencies which aren't in use are a great place to "hide in plain sight". In some places part or all of the 220MHz and 440MHz Ham band is used for military purposes and you definitely want to avoid that as they will come looking for you fast and those penalties are severe. Use the "NFM" option on the programming to lessen your 'signature' slightly keeping transmissions as short and as low powered as you can. Of course all this is illegal; I'm just sharing knowledge base on what I've heard...
