Ive been into knockoff for a while, but recently ive seen a bunch more new sets on aliexpress, there are 3 transforming dinosaurs who all has recoloured old&new pieces (sand green old panel, hero factory foot, blue skrall armor) or an azure robot with a mahri matoran blade in azure. So many great pieces and alot of times the quality is great.

Pretty sure i have more go bricks and other chinese knockoffs than official bricks, and no complaints. I especially like how every company has some sort of different look on certain pieces allowing for uniqe shapes

Looking at the rising popularity of LEGO knockoffs among BIONICLE fans, it's getting ridiculus how much money LEGO is loosing just because they forced us to start paying Chinese corporations for the product that LEGO had it their offer only few years ago. For years, LEGO has offered us the holy LEGO trinity: System, Technic and Construction. So seriously, what were the people at LEGO thinking, suddenly abandoning 1/3 of it? For most of the AFOLs I know personally, Bricklink and Aliexpress replaced completly LEGO Stores. And this is nothing less than a wasted opportunity that the company passed up at own request :p

It has to be a technic theme. The only special molds the set needs are the masks, and they also need to be usable for every future set. I absolutely agree with the price. The Toa, the "main character", "the hero" must be affordable. Making the toa smaller also helps with packaging a vehicle to it which gives a reliable play feature to it. And yes, use as much technic/system as possible. A system shoulder pad is a lot cooler than a single mold. I'd actually disagree with the accessibility thing. To me Bionicle is the posterchild on how you NOT do a cross media project. I only saw that the comics exist, but if it's not in the set then it won't be seen. The only real lore stuff I know is from the three early movies, mata-nui+metru-nui. Assume that 90% of the existing lore is only known by a minority. For story, take the original line and refine it. I genuinely think not giving the mask of gravitation to a toa of gravitation was a missed opportunity. Especially with the predecessors of the toa metru being like a group of what? 13?

i think lack of mask packs was one of the biggest misses of g2 they were the thing that allowed you to create your own original characters! you know, engage in the building system, make your own stuff the thing that carried the bionicle g1 community for so long

I feel like g2, wave 1 was great design wise (I never saw the shows but the sets look cool) but they totally dropped the ball on marketing and imo design a little bit with wave 2

Yeah, I in no way blame anyone who hated Bionicle G2. I did initially like it for its potential than actual storytelling but I can't deny the problems with it and that G1 is far superior. It is sad to see what could've been.

If Lego wanted to, they could use the small mechs they make as an entire separate product. They made a brick built Tahu. It just seems like Lego wants to stick to the social norm, since that just sells well. For example, the Lego flower sets we see were rare and even so beyond belief to be sold by Lego out in the open stores. Heck Harry Potter was thought to be dead after they debuted the last movie. But what do you know, we see F1 cars, marvel sets, flowers and ninjago.

I was there during gen 2 , Lego had a contest to add fan made villains to the story , the person won had 2015 pieces before they were officially announced, what I recall they got the pieces from sdcc or Nycc for the mocs I remember when art book was release , instagram groups I was in , were pissed off lego did it via lottery and set designs we lost out , makuta main villan you had to buy all the sets to build him , issue some stores clearanced or never got final wave , I believe toyrus got them during final weeks of them going out of business.

G2 Bionicle never peaked. The 2016 sets were very promising of what could’ve been if it kept going.

I shouldn't be surprised G2 didn't take off, and I really like their sets (I got them all minus the cut makuta) but it shocked me when I hear that they didn't sell well. In my town they are almost always sold out. Sometimes I had to go out of town to grab sets that I couldn't find. It was super weird to me to hear "Oh this isn't selling well" and I was struggling to find all the sets. I still wish I bought all the sets needed to build makuta, but by then they were taken out of stores.

Despite having bought some G2 stuff when it released and being a fan of Bionicle, I gotta say that the Egypt stuff would probably end up so much cooler, especially if it looked a bit like the cobra construct and scorpion from Pharaoh's Quest

As someone growing up around the time of G2. Yeah no G1 is superior. Ironically the line on my birthyear (2006) is rmy favourite of G1. I'm now very, very concerned for Lego One Piece, already setting off major red flags with how they promoted it on the lego Website.

The leaked Russian marketing/story Bible for G2 was all about how they should let fans market the theme for new people. They used those Vahi images to create hype and wonder in the fandom. That was far cry from the Faber concept about Bionicle G2 being kind of Beast Wars situation where the new generation is connected to the old one using time travel and how that would reboot the setting. I also downloaded the whole magnaleak as torrent file. I honestly wonder if lego even cares anymore. Duck is too connected to them anyway. They don't care about us other fans sharing the files.

With Technic pieces being so important for Bionicle and new kids apparently being too digitalized to care about physical toys, I'd say forget about kids and go for adults. Look at Transformers, there's an entire 3rd party market around very complex toys made for adult collectors! More complexity means higher price, which not only is affordable by adult buyers anyway (since they usually have a job), but it also ensures higher profits. Heck, even back in the day Bionicle wasn't exactly meant for small kids. Weren't most sets rated 16+ anyway?

I believe the movie kikanalo was a similar story with movie Teridax where it was based off a prototype design.

We know more about the 6 possible seasons for Chima, (Yes, 6) than year 3 of G2. Sometimes I wonder is G2 was just a tax right off.

Hero Factory's failure to actually develop the story in a clear and interesting manner killed it. It's mad to thing that the LEGO Group decide that completely half-assing things was the correct course after that.

The first G2 masks look pretty cool. Been thinking about an air toa MOC that is a mishmash of of the different parts with a green G2 Hau if it existed

G2 was not good, not saying I didn’t like some concepts and ideas, I just think they were executed poorly and felt like rip offs of the older and better stuff we got in G1. My G3 concept is basically a retelling of the entire 2001-2010 storyline, just more fleshed out, and a bunch of tweaks here and there to help streamline the lore and fix continuity errors, as part of that process I am adding some of the G2 characters and ideas into the story, such as Ekimu being the brother of Turaga Dume (who Makuta later impersonates thus making him Ekimu’s brother in a way) and the master of the Forge that Vakama works at in Metru Nui, he is originally tasked with making the Mask of Time, but an injury caused by the Dark Hunters leaves him unable to work and thus he hands the task over to his prize pupil Vakama. The Skull Spiders and the Visorak are one and the same, with baby ones being able to latch on and control people (which is later used to create the Krana for the Bohrak). Okoto is the original name of the Island of Mata Nui, before it is renamed by the Toa Metru. Both Kulta and Umerak are shadow Toa in service to Makuta during his reign of terror on the Island of Mata Nui. The Elemental creatures are pets of Artahka, and one of the sources of Elemental power for new Toa. The Mask of Ultimate power story line is somewhat adapted, but rather it is Makuta attempting a o create his own Mask of Life (for purposes to long for this comment) which ends up creating a dark and twisted version called The Mask of Death (which can reanimate corpses into mindless zombies controlled by the Mask’s wearer, which is where the skull warriors come into play)

imo i feel the g2 concept art book has way more uniquie ideas to g2 itself than what g2 became as a whole. the egypt files look neat tbh but if we ever got a g3 bionicle i hope they use fabers story pitch for g2 orginally with time travel n such.

whenever companies are doing well they always seem to put in less effort in their products. LEGO is still suffering from this and hope someday their tactics wont work to give them a reality check that they cant keep releasing mediocre products for top tier prices
