Ever since The Lego Movie came out I thought that creating a Bionicle movie with "stop motion" Lego would be a great way of retelling the Bionicle story, the original Bionicle story. The fanbase is really strong too. I hope that Lego is at least talking about bringing back Bionicle!

You can call me silly for saying this, but perhaps instead to trying to bring it back so suddenly, they just... tell the story again; no toys, no animations, just... put pen to paper. Novelize that old tale from the beginning, keep illustrations atmospheric and sparce. Reintroduce the world and its story as just that: a story. Toys can come after, once it has its feet under itself.

I like a lot of these points. I don’t really understand why for a while there were a bunch of people wanting system style sets for the brand to continue. It doesn’t really seem like there’s a point in making it Bionicle by doing that. Technic would be a lot better.

Honestly system is fine just don't do minifigs, old or even brand new kind of toa with a mix of system and technic is completely fine perfect even, like 40/30% system and technic for the rest like MOC people make. They don't need to make new exclusive piece from the start either just make new mold for the mask and the head, that's it

    I'm going to propose something radical;
Start with Metru Nui, and work the way up the timeline. Streamline the saga and make it very clear that its a generational series. Keep the overall mystery of the series hidden [its a reboot, no way to keep that reveal completely hidden, anyway], let there still be elements of mystery on Mata Nui -like the origins of the Toa Mata, but start off with the story of the Toa Metru and end their story with them becoming Turaga, which is then followed up by the Toa Mata. No prequel confusion, just a straightforward timeline progression that occasionally has a flashback story pepper throughout the series. Build up the Toa Mahri bit-by-bit in the background, then during Mata, establish them as more mainline characters, before they finally take the reigns in Ignition; meanwhile, use a prophecy of the Toa Mata as a red herring for the Toa Metru.
I've heard a lot of people want to leave out Metru Nui. DO NOT DO THIS. It is an essential part of the story, and leaving it out leaves out so much else

    • @Bionickpunk

The toa mata arc to mask of light should be a show. Metru nui should be a video game with a movie attached. Ignition should be a show capping with a movie in Mahri nui, and then same pattern for the phantoka up to the codex and the rising event. Then there should be a full prequel covering the core war flowing into the legend reborn and reunification. Toys should be based off of the key figures and the other sets should be made based off story prevalence and popularity.
Most important, all sets should look as close to their animated counterparts as physically possible, in a redo we'd need to avoid the Makuta problem in my opinion.

Honestly they could easily remix the GWP Matoran design into something that takes only half of the parts count if they were allowed a budget of new molds.
Basically here is how id handle the molds:
Matoran gands, Torso and feets can be made without new molds at a polybag scale, you can then get 3 molds used to create a pair of parts that wrap around a new 1 stud long male to female mixel limb piece, this new 3 piece assembly works as legs for the matoran build or as a waist joint on a toa or turaga build, double it and you get the arms of the matoran, then we can get another mold to create an inverted jumper plate which we could use for removeable brickbuilt Kanohis that can also be popped off easily to replicate the 2001 play feature.
From there with the toa and turaga builds I wanna say 1 mold each for the tools and then maybe anothef mold or two for a new 2 stud long mixel limb that has the socket rotated to bend in another axis.
That puts us at around 9 to 10 molds for 18 characters, from there you can go pretty far by releasing stuff like "elemental trade" 3 packs where you have stuff like a red Kopaka and a white Tahu or a Black Gali and a Blue Onua or other combos which would not only be an easy way to sixtuple the number of sets kids and collectors can buy but provide a TON of parts for MOC builders to get, like shit can you imagine grabbing a red Tahu, Red Onua and a Red Pohatu to create a Toa Kaita of Fire?.
And then on the matorans they could sell "tribe packs" that features 3 matorans and a Turaga with each of the 3 matorans being the different palettes that a matoran of that element can have.
The mixel limb and its new "shells" can then see heavy reuse in the mechs, the matoran leg assembly can be repeated a bunch of times to create tails or necks, the shell pieces for the mixel limbs could also be used in ships for lego city and star wars while the tool pieces could see use in ninjago

What l would like to see in a bionicle g3 is that each year would have a different toa team , kinda how in jjba each part has a mostly different set of protagonists & antagonists , but unlike jjba each story arc will be mostly self contained , that way a newcommer to the franchise could in theory be hooked on the series without needing to know all of the lore of the previous arcs of the series , so that they should focus on the current arc , but later on they could learn the prequels' story arcs . As for the building system , l'd like to see something simmilar to the bionicle youtuber Skybird (if l haven't messed up his name) concepts for parts of a new building system , so that saud parts can be compatible with the previous building systems , also l'd like to see the mask be more modular , kinda like how the concept of the old & new masks of time being able to connect , or much how in the 2nd bionicle movie vakama put the mask of time on top of his mask . What l would like to see as well is collectible weapons with unique powers much like the masks .

I've mostly thought of it coming back with modern Technic pieces, even though they are not made for constraction. They could use liftarms for a skeleton, the sockets they still make for the joints, and panel fairings for armor. Ninjago blade pieces could be used for weapons, and the mask would be a printed or stickered piece that would cover the molded head. Although this would take away molded greebles, they could always put stickers of greebles on the panel fairings. I came up with this idea because people mostly want Bionicle to come back Technic based, and I have seen the Technic sub-community build humanoid alternate models of existing Technic sets as well.

4:31 I never understood this point against g2, I agree with a lot of the problems of G2 but not this specifically.
Ninjago’s CHEAPEST sets are 20$ and starting from there they have all kinds of sizes : 60$ 80$ 100$ Ninjago has very big sets and it is extremely successful.
And in g2 the Toa were 15-20$ which is considerd cheap nowadays. G2 was a very cheap line the most expensive set out of that line is 30$ and I like that, I would love to see a theme where the biggest set is just 30$.
If Bionicle returns I won’t mind if a Toa is 20$ - 25$ heck, even 30$. I want my toa sets to be good, as much as I like the toa from 2001 I don’t want a toa team with fixed limbs ever again.
G2 didn’t fail because of the prices, you got a big figure for just 20$ that’s good, it failed of course, for many reasons but not this one, the sets were cheap, not as cheap as G1 but still very cheap for Lego standards

    • @IgnitionZoneTV

@@r.p.4531 15-20 for a toa is considered reasonable now due to inflation and how expensive lego has gotten. you have to consider that if g2 were to come out today it would be a lot more expensive than it was due to factors like inflation and lego’s uptick in pricing (during the pandemic). I know what you’re saying but it’s also not about us anymore. I’d love to get decked out sets that use a lot of parts for maybe a little bit of a higher price point but the question would be if the new audience would buy them. Comparing to Ninjago feels like not the best idea since Ninjago is a titan theme that sells everything.
And it cannibalizes new themes, so Bionicle would still have to compete with it.
Unfortunately there is a reason why Lego prefers to release legacy themes as singe but big set instead of a wave.
It's because that way Lego can reduce the amount of sets that wouldn't sell.

G2 had a lot of problems that lead to the poor sales. How they marketed it, the rushed animations and movie. The price may have been the worst bit of it(unless u got them on deep discounts then it almost felt like stealing)
Lego needed to focus more on the protectors from G2 not only for that lower price point but also storywise. Having protectors that are like villagers/matoran. The skull villians never seemed strong against any single toa master but were formidable for the protectors and the creatures from the final wave could have been better suited to upgrade the protectors more substantially than they did for the toa. Maybe making several creatures for each element that then fully upgraded the toa masters once they are introduced.
That's more character building and world building with a better pricing possibility.

With Technic pieces being so important for Bionicle and new kids apparently being too digitalized to care about physical toys, I'd say forget about kids and go for adults. Look at Transformers, there's an entire 3rd party market around very complex toys made for adult collectors!
More complexity means higher price, which not only is affordable by adult buyers anyway (since they usually have a job), but it also ensures higher profits.
Heck, even back in the day Bionicle wasn't exactly meant for small kids. Weren't most sets rated 16+ anyway?

Lego just doesn't go Zamors to the wall to make as many unique molds as a Bionicle reboot would require.
Look no further than G2's Uniters, 5 toa had to share one new sword mold when the Toa Nuva of old all had their own unique weapon pieces. Even the clone sets of G1 all had their own weapons. That's the issue with going for non system system here.

@@nihili4196I'm not looking forward to 12 different Tahu mechs without knee articulation 😂
You're not wrong that it's a far more convenient starting point, but at this point their large system 'robots' (mechs) are pretty repetitive and formulaic. The biggest problem of them all is that Lego doesn't know how to make an original theme that cool again.

    • @nihili4196
      @nihili4196 7 дней назад +2

@boogie1434 It's not that they don't know how, but that they have safe theme to do cool things within.
Also, Bionicle previously existed within interesting time that allowed a theme with ungodly amount of one or two time use moulds to exist. Nowadays Lego keeps moulds and part catalogue under heavy scrutiny, but even ten years ago that wasn't the case.
At one point Bricklink was best tool for Lego Employees to keep track of available parts.
But today if part isn't used within 2-5 years, mould is destroyed. Designers applying for new parts need to explain why and how they could be useful in the future, and every theme gets very limited amount of parts it can introduce. Average Bionicle wave was introducing more parts than today Lego is introducing within a year.
Sad reality is, System is not broad enough to support theme like that, and best we can realistically get is something closer to Marvel action figures than old Bionicle.
We could ask for knees, maybe parts that look more robotic...
But all of that would take good few years, and would require other themes to use the parts too.
And let's be honest, if that was the case, Ninjago would use the concept first.
God, I hate what crutch Ninjago has became for Lego.

More of a case of should they bring back Bionicles not could. Lego has a history of dropping names and brands if they see them as a failure or a dead-end. Even if the brand is popular with certain people, Lego will just see it as a failure as a small group that's interested means nothing to them compared to having the majority of people interested. That's why sets around Star Wars or Harry Potter do so well. Even their own brands have some success mixed in with some failures. Ninjago sticks out as a success compared to Chimera and Nexo Knights even though they have their own fanbase.

Hello, I love Bionicle but dislike Lego bricks. To me, it feels limited since it stagnated the foundation of wall systems. I prefer Bionicle because it can easily create a nice, movable foundation structure for figurines. What I want is basically a Gundam but more customizable. To me, Gundam feels limited since you can only combine very specific body parts, weapons, and maintain a humanoid shape. With Bionicle, I could make many different body shapes, create custom weapons, and explore various designs. I may not be very creative, but the ability to build what I can imagine without limitations feels great. Additionally, Bionicle seems more durable than Lego - it doesn't break as easily when dropped.

While the discussion of the prices being cheaper I feel is pretty unrealistic, I mean lego hasn't been making decent sets that are under 50 dollars at this point let alone prices even comparable to 10-20 especially with inflation. It is crazy though they didnt think of mask packs back in g2 and don't see the money they could make by mask packs now. The biggest "toy" nowadays besides computers for kids now I think is like pokemon cards and the card market booming while toys are stagnating. Collectible Stuff with arbitrary rarity gets children and adults with too much money to buy that shit in droves and the masks can appeal to the card collector while not being horrendously ugly like most modern cmfs lol

I don't see the point in making Bionicle again. Maybe someone like Faber has some wild idea that'd make it interesting and fresh, but I don't want just another retread: Bionicle G1's story already happened and it was already good.
If we want new sets LIKE G1 Bionicle, then I'm absolutely for that; I want Lego to do Technic figures again, it doesn't need to wear the Bionicle brand. Like you said, the toys just need to be cool and cheap, otherwise let it stand on its own two feet. Heck, I'd rather bring back Technic Competition or Hero Factory instead, since neither of their original runs got to meet their true potential.
The real problem is Lego can't make original themes at all anymore. An original theme can't just be a cute idea with a few sets that lasts for a couple years (with the potential to grow if popular) anymore, like we used to get with Adventurers, Power Miners, Aqua Raiders/Atlantis, or the myriad of classic Space/Castle factions. Every new theme Lego attempts today HAS to immediately be a giant franchise with a cartoon and some shoehorned phone app compatability, because they keep trying to replicate Ninjago's success and failing. Otherwise, Lego's currently content with remaking sets from the 80s as overpriced "display pieces" for reddit adults.
You are not going to get an original Technic Figure theme if Lego can't even make a successful Lego System theme.

Modern LEGO sucks and is devoid of the soul it used to have.

id feel like i would start by doing something unique like making characters into mini figures for a cmf before making more technical sets and such just to see if there's enough hype for bionicle to return

I'd love if LEGO could repackage, retell, slightly trim down the fat on the original story, work out some of the plot holes and contrivances, and make a new Bionicle line, but treating it like they do their licensed lines. So that way we'd just get a steady stream of sets based on the story events, and the line could last a lot longer. There's been LEGO Star Wars sets coming out for more than a quarter century, practically every year there's a new UCS Millennium Falcon with only a few cosmetic differences, imagine if Bionicle got that treatment, even though the story is concluded it can be used as the launching point for any number of creative set ideas.

Yeah but why make cool action figures for kids when we can sell absolutely anything for hundreds of dollars a pop to millennial man children as long as we just put one or two pop-culture minifigs in?

Perhaps it is a changing market and just like toy trains used to appeal to kids and now collectors and hobbyists, maybe lego is heading down the same path. Maybe lego should slowly cater to adults and focus less on kids?

@@bryanbutchmartin9260they already are pushing towards adults infact most legacy toy lines are pushing towards adults since kids are mostly on phones.
