The relationship between x, omega, and t are explained in detail. hard to explain it again in a short comment, but if you go back and work out problems with the lecture (pause videos and do problems yourself), you should be able to get it easily. all the best

    Isnt the mean of an exponential distribution just 1/lambda? How come you are treating them as if they were equal? Shouldn’t S(1)-S(2) = e^(-20*1)-e^(-20*2)?😅

    • @DrAmjadRabi
      @DrAmjadRabi 7 месяцев назад

      You seem to mix the rate of mortality with the mean. You need to use the rate of mortality =.05 in the survival function, which is (1/20), and not 20. I suggest to review the probability review at the start of this series.

    hey Dr. Amjad Rabi, I have a kind of unrelated question. Is the teacher shortages a social policy issue as it heavily relies on government funding? thank you so much for you videos :D

    • @DrAmjadRabi
      @DrAmjadRabi 2 года назад

      Thank you for your comment. Indeed, this is particularly the case in developing countries. If your read the IMF article IV for any developing country, a consistent message is always 'the wage bill is high compared to other countries...' so put a control on the wage bill. Two sectors suffer most: education and health, as they tend to hire a lot of civil servants. Back in 2005, for example, while meeting the IMF’s conditions aimed at reducing Ghana’s public-sector wage bill in 2005, the Ghanaian Minister of Finance wrote, “At the current level of remuneration, the civil service is losing highly productive employees, particularly in the health sector”. The results of this policy, and the weakening health care system in many countries, were seen during Ebola and certainly the most recent Covid-19 Pandemic. Similarly, public education systems in many countries are weakened with wage bill controls and shortages in funding. If you review the results of PISA (though i am not very supportive of standardized testing) you can see the result (clear relationship of how much you spend and what you get). At the heart of this is the social policy dimension: as the well off can afford private tuition and/or attending private schools, those from low-wage earners background will continue to attend public schools, which creates differential in skills sets for both groups, and later translates into wage differentials....contributing to the inequality in the society. Further, education is not only a place to learn ABC, but it has a function of developing a sese of community and unifying national identity. Having two education systems one for the well off and one for the poor further sperates the two groups and adds stratifications to the society. Thanks for making me reflect on your question.

    what is the signifiance of id @11:05 ? why would we need this formula? as an equivalence relationship?

    • @DrAmjadRabi
      @DrAmjadRabi 2 года назад

      In actuarial exams, time matters. so, it is always a good idea to know different ways/relationships so you can save a bit of time. Though you can still always derive from first principles. The way i remember this relationship is that i know the fact i > d [this is a must to know]. Now by how much i > d? it is the product of id. in other words, the relationship between i and d is that difference between them is equal to the product.

    • @brendanspinelli8917
      @brendanspinelli8917 2 года назад

      Ahh thank you. This is the only formula I hadn’t seen before. So basically, we can use id or i-d to find how much larger i is than d
