Kanban EV - My First Vital Lacerda Game (Unboxing & Setup)
Nice no nonsense review, thanks.
Good review thanks... only omission is the issue around expansions - a few have been released, but none yet updated for the latest Ravensberger version annoyingly.
such a shame they didn't re-work the bad luck aspect of this game. About that, why not making a house-rule like : "if you cannot play any card to advance, discard your hand, do not buy anything to advance one space" ? This would at least make you advance a bit and potentially unlock the situation Or to jdraw more cards in hand every turn and only play 4 of them ? Cheers
😂😂
What do you mean by pure worker placement? Worker placement is one of my favorite mechanisms and, when done well, the competition for specific spaces produces great interactivity, conflict, and strategic flexibility. For example, I would consider Feast for Odin, the Shem Philips games, Orle'ans, Caverna, etc. to all be worker placement games. You place workers to take specific actions, often resources you need for performing some other personal/group objective. Idk how many times I've had my eye on a worker placement spot only to see it suddenly consumed by an opponent before I could get there. Also, I'm curious what components you actually get for the price. It seems like a lot of additions for $30 +shipping. And I'd rather pay $49 and support a local game shop (and the community) than I would buy on the Stonemeier website any day. The idea that game companies would undercut the retail price seems almost like working against the hobby rather than for it.
To better clarify, I think the worker placement spots in Viticulture World aren’t very fun. In games like A Feast for Odin, for example, going hunting, sailing to new islands, etc. feels very fun and almost like its own mini game. I don’t much enjoy just simply going to a spot and drawing a card for example. It just doesn’t seem to captivate in ways other worker placement games feel. I’m with ya on supporting local, but I just don’t think $49 USD is a good deal for a few wooden pieces, rubber hats, and cards. $29 on the other hand is worth it IMO!
@@TotallyBoard is it also a new board?
@@dhanigar it is! That’s actually a good point I didn’t catch at first
Viticulture, in general, is one of those classic games that's always on the back of my wishlist, but I can never seem to pull the trigger on a copy... Part of me worries if it might show it's age, playing it for the first time in 2024..?
I think it’s a solid enough game, especially if you like worker placement. You could try it on BGA first to test it out! I’ve played quite a bit on there before reviewing this expansion
If they transform a competitive game into a cooperative game successfully, that's quite impressive.
I thought I would love it. I like the theme and enjoy worker placement. Once I tried it, I forced myself to try it a second time. Never played again. Agree with Jordan, try it digitally first :)
Terra Mystica sucks. That's why it's hard to get people to play it with you
Great list! Terraforming Mars is my 2nd favourite game of all time! And Ark Nova is actually my 3rd lol 😆
Awesome video! This looks like a fun game. The difficulty looks like it similar to dice throne which I like, pretty easy to teach and learn.
Big Daddy of the game!! 😂 I love this video so much!

I'm definitely trying to whittle down my collection. I had almost 300 games at one point, now I'm getting closer to 250 and would like to keep going. Like you, I went a little over board when I got in the hobby and I'm a sucker for kickstarter games. So I have a lot on my "need to play" list. And because most of it is solo play I just have to crank them out when I have the time. I do at least try to play a game 3 times in a row when I open them because I want to be sure I understand the game and can rate it more accurately before I either keep it or move it along. But with that many games, I find myself not getting back to the ones I really liked. So overall, I need more time to get to games!
I know you talked about grinding out those single player games? Have you played any good ones recently? And keep it up man, that's a lot of progress!
@@TotallyBoard been playing Burncycle from Chip Theory Games. It’s so cool but there’s a lot going on and it’s difficult. I also fell down the Lorcana rabbit hole. They just came out with a co-op/solo version and it’s pretty good I have to admit.
@@AaronBaillio Lorcana! That was almost me. Star Wars Unlimited is solid, too! As for Burncycle, I was just looking at that box and that thing is MASSIVE. Would you recommend it?
Shelf of shame. We finally came up against this after upgrading our shelving and still not having enough room for new games. We will need to play all the games soon to determine what to cull. Haven't had to cull a game in 10 plus years!
Wow! You could have your own flea market sometime haha
😂
I've slowly been chipping away at the "Top 10 Games from my Shelf of Shame" list that I made coming into 2024. The problem is I keep adding to it as well. 😅
The struggle is real! Have you played Flamecraft yet?
@@TotallyBoard Yes! It was one I reviewed along with 3 other games from a "4 New Game Weekend": ruclips.net/video/xYhdmxuwJEo/видео.html 😎 I've actually played it a few times now, and I like it! A really solid medium-light game that's easy to teach/easy to learn, and looks beautiful on the table. It's a great one to play with people who don't play a lot of board games. 👍
You’re awesome. Love this. Love you. I wanna play Sky Team next time we’re together.
Love you too! I think you’d love it
Do expansions count as shelf of shame worthy? The thing about expansions is that I usually buy them if I really like the base game but I will usually wait a long to add them in. Sometimes I add them in quick (like Terraforming Mars Prelude OR Eldritch Horror Forbidden Lore) but usually I want to play the base game so much it starts to grow stale before I start adding in the expansions. For instance, I've only ever played Dune: Imperium but I own Rise of Ix AND Immortality but I haven't played them yet because I'm not tired of the base game yet.
I’d say that comes down to the person! If we count expansions, I’d have a few more things to add to this video 🤣
For me, shelf of Shame just isn't just a game I haven't played yet. It includes all the games I haven't played more than once! 😂 I spend $60-100± on a game and call it a victory if it gets to the table and we enjoy it. But then the next time we get together we look (with glassy-eyed dizziness) at shelf after shelf of games and (when some noise snaps us out of our stunned stupor) we say, "Let's try this one next!" It's like in the Christmas Santa game where there's a perfectly good gift available to steal, but "Oh look at the shiny paper! I wonder what's in this one?" So, the previous game is lost to another day somewhere down the road when, if it's lucky, it will get on the table again and it's owner can say at last, "Praise the game fairy! Thank goodness I sleeved those cards so they wouldn't get worn out!"
Well, after we took a look at our stats, you could say our entire collection is a shelf of shame LOL. Good outlook, David!
I have games that I haven’t played at all and games that I haven’t played in years. I’ve been considering culling some of them like ark nova and GWT so that someone can enjoy them.
I think that’s a great idea. Plus you could put that towards other games!
@@TotallyBoard I think I’m going to pair down the collection to the real good ones like heat, return to dark tower, mansions of madness and some party games. I felt like I went all in and now it’s hard to get a consistent game night going.
@@ryanlohman4922dude I feel that so hard. We need to play some Heat! I’m playing on BGA if you ever wanna get a game
Hilarious - You should sing more. All I have is a shelf of shame.
Wanna be on my next video and we sing a duet the entire time we play through a game?
pov the earth- 2:52
it would be cool to watch some more play throughs of board games
That’s a good idea! When are you gonna come film a play through with me?!
@@TotallyBoard as soon as i dont have 0.03 coins in my bank 😭but probably after this trip

I only have Salton Sea on my SoS. I think 10% of one's collection being unplayed is the upper limit.
What a great game, too! I really enjoy that one. I didn't really think about a percentage but that's a great way to look at it
Nice work. For a list like this, I’d probably bump a couple titles up for inclusion, and move a few down, just to have more ‘variety’. For example, I love Ark Nova-but if Im already including A Feast for Odin and Terraforming Mars, then it seems like quite a bit of overlap, mechanism wise, and I can’t include them all. So, this is not technically my ‘top-12 games if all time’, but rather the 12 games (of the near 400 I’ve collected since the 70s) I would hold on to if all others were subsequently gone forever. 1. Memoir ‘44 2. Clash of Cultures. 3. Twilight Imperium IV 4. Nations 5. War of the Ring, 2nd edition 6. Terraforming Mars 7. Root 8. A Feast for Odin 9. Isle of Skye 10. Star Wars: The Card Game (LCG) 11. Rummikub 12. Flash Point: Fire Rescue
That’s a great way of thinking! Similar to what I had in mind. We have a decent amount of overlap, too. Lots of games you included that I love, just didn’t make my 12.
Watergate the game! Would never have heard of that one without your channel. Also adding Undaunted to the playlist. I don't have the guts to pick just 12 games forever, but I know Star Realms would be on my list :)
Watergate is amazing! I really recommend that one. Star Realms is a classic for a reason!
Wow, very unique list! I don't think I've played the majority of these. Been hearing a lot about "Sea Salt & Paper" lately--I guess I need to try this one out! How does it compare to say, Point Salad?
I've never played Point Salad! How do you like it? But I think Sea Salt & Paper is great for what it is: a lightweight hand management game with some push your luck/bluffing intertwined into it. Not something I'm playing often, but when I do it's a great time. Plus, it's super accessible for those friends who don't play many games!
@@TotallyBoard Hah! That's exactly the way I'd describe Point Salad--great for what it is. It's a lightweight card game that's perfect for when you have a mix of "non-gamers". It's a great game to have on your shelf! Mechanically they sound a little different though. Point Salad doesn't have any bluffing/push your luck. I definitely recommend checking it out if you have the chance.
Only 12 games to keep (and you can't get more ever), interesting question! At the moment: Carcassonne, Through the Desert, TZAAR, DVONN, Blokus Duo, Small World w/Power pack 1, No Thanks, Biblios, Babylonia, Amun-Re, Cuzco (Kramer/Kiesling) and Tammany Hall. Since I got like 200 games unplayed in my collection, this list of 12 can change some. However, most of these will stay. Our taste in games is VERY different it seems, I am not planning to buy any of your 12 games 🙂
Absolutely. I've actually only even heard of 4 games on your list! 😮 What's your top pick from your list?
@@TotallyBoard I got 630 games now, but Carcassonne, as 2-player with the newest international rules, is still my number 1. A brilliant competitive game. Very high level play online on Boardgamearena.
@@diamondmeeple Dang! How long have you been in the hobby? I played Carcassone once and could easily tell why it's so popular. A very straightforward game with a lot of depth to it.
@@TotallyBoard I started in 1987-88 playing modern boardgames...
@@diamondmeeple what games were you playing then? Thats awesome, though. I bet the industry and games overall have changed quite a bit
Great video 😸 I mostly play board games solo and going on instinct I would keep: 7 Moons, Mini Rogue, Hit Z Road, Heropath, The Cards of Cthulhu, Dark Souls The Card Game, Crypt of Chaos, Ravage Dungeons of Plunder, Lord of the Rings Adventure to Mount Doom, Space Marine Adventures, Rogue Trooper and Forbidden Island.
Very unique list! I haven't heard of half of these actually. What mentality did you have in mind when picking these (replayability, accessibility, etc.)?
@@TotallyBoard They're all pretty simple games that I don't have to re-learn, mostly about theme, they don't take long to play and some of them are still new and shiny to me like LOTR, mini rogue and Heropath ☺
@@paultice nice. I’ll look into some of those. Really interested in the LOTR one since I love Tolkien
Excellent list! I love your cat wanting to participate. My 12 picks would be: 1. Spirit Island 2. Nemesis 3. Terraforming Mars 4. Scythe 5. Obsession 6. Skull and Roses 7. Stonewall Uprising 8. Votes for Women 9. Betrayal at the House on the Hill 10. Monikers 11. Risk 2210 AD 12. Red November I also have the Geek On bag and it is great for taking games to friends' homes.
This list is incredible (and I’ve played a lot of the games!). Great to see Monikers on there as well. Is Spirit Island your #1? The bag is so good! Definitely the best looking board game bag I’ve seen
Spirit Island is my favorite game. It has so much variability with different spirits, adversaries and scenarios. I currently have all of the existing content (37 spirits; 68 spirits if you include aspects).
@@blueseqperl SI is one of my buddy's favorite game of all time, too. You're right! There's endless replayability with it. What's your favorite spirit? I just have the base game (and Horizons) and really like River and the Mud beaver one haha
When playing with new players, I like playing Bringer of Dreams and Nightmares. I can show players the importance of the fear deck by flipping them over in advance, gifting players an Element to trigger their innate, and keep the game relatively short by rushing the fear deck. My board might be a hot mess of invaders, but I find powers to manage it. My favorite experience is my friend told me to grow to another board so he could play Cast Down into the Briny Deep at Element threshold (i.e., remove an island board and destroy all Invaders, Dahan and presence that was on that board). We won with that move.
@@blueseqperl Is that a card or a Spirit ability - remove an entire island?? That's INSANE! I love it
That’s such a tough ask. You picked on instinct and I have to wonder If my picks would be different under those circumstance than now having a good old think about it. Well here goes: 1. Arkham Horror the card game. No brainer. I have tons of content for this game so it’s really 50 games in 1! 2. Scythe. Was my No.1 game of all time and is still up there 3. Dune Imperium 4. Ticket to Ride (the game that got me back into the hobby after a 20 year hiatus) 5. Undaunted Reinforcements. That way I get Normandy, North Africa, and a great solo mode. 6. Final Girl collection. 7. Marvel United Collection. Lots of content here. 8. Obsession 9. Nidavillir 10. Dawn of the Zeds 3rd edition 11. Nemo’s War 12 Pandemic Iberia. I bet I’ve forgotten some though that I’ll kick myself over but this is a good start.
Great list. I feel like Arkham is timeless and just has so much content. Curious about Dawn of the Zeds as I really love zombie games. Are you a solo gamer by chance? Seems like a handful of these are notoriously good solo games
My 12: Titan Ticket to Ride India Star Realms Naruto (Cryptozoic) Power Grid Jump Drive Agricola San Juan Penny Arcade Pandemic Axis and Allies Castles of Burgandy Please note this is 12 of the 100 or so games I own and have played.

My pics from my current collection are based on content, replayability, and how difficult or expensive they would be to replace. Many of these are deluxe or Kickstarter editions that would be difficult to acquire again, but all of them are games that I've played numerous times and am still incredibly excited for: Agemonia, The Bloody Inn (once again out of print), Darwin's Journey, Dead Reckoning, Deep Rock Galactic, Escape the Dark Castle, Folklore the Affliction, Machina Arcana, Marvel Zombies, Massive Darkness 2, Robinson Crusoe, and Shadows of Brimstone. Some of my favorites aren't in that list because they're easily available either online or in other people's collections, and very easy to find again at retail, like Lost Ruins of Arnak, and Sleeping Gods. Its a good mental exercise for sure. We have wildfires that have gotten close enough I've had to do this mental exercise to see what I'd throw in the car if I had to evacuate. Thanks for sharing!
That's a great way to consider the list. I like how people will approach the question with different mindsets. You have so many good games in your list! Excited to hear you like Darwin's Journey so much because I have it but haven't played it yet. How's Agemonia? Looks interesting. That's scary about the fires - I'm glad to hear they haven't cause damage to your home and things. Stay safe my friend!
@@TotallyBoard I agree! It's very interesting to hear the reasoning behind people's choices. Darwin's Journey is probably the crunchiest game I own, and I've only played it at 1-2 players so far, and only the base game. Apparently the Fireland expansion makes it even better, so I'll need to add that in at some point. Agemonia is a blast. It has this wonderful earnest charm to it, and it's a wonderfully imagined world compared to your more traditional fantasy. If you're interested, I'd recommend giving the TTS demo a try (they loaded up the first three scenarios and a side quest that teaches you the game, and let's you try before you buy that you can find on the Kickstarter page). They just announced they're doing a reprint, with some new player characters and an upgrade/errata pack. I've been lucky so far with the fires, but it never hurts to look at your collection in a disaster mindset. Glad your house is safe from all the stuff going on in your neighborhood!
@@morgaknightgames Ah, that makes me even more excited to play Darwin's Journey! And yes, I have TTS so I'm gonna check that out now. I've heard really good things about Agemonia on both Reddit and BGG. Thank you! I think it's definitely good to have a backup plan in case of those potential scenarios. I appreciate it!
Red Dragon Inn much better than 5!

Clank vs Dune Imerium
Ohh that’s a good one. Which one for you?
Well I found a cheap copy of Dune Imperium on Marketplace, and one of my best friends has Clank, we played his Clank on Friday and unknowingly played Dune on Sunday and the comparison was very noticeable we laughed about it. Honestly I probably would chose Clank the theme was a little more fun for me but I definitely do not feel the need for both
@@JasonBrown-us9yv both are amazing! Have you played Lost Ruins of Arnak? That gets compared to Dune Imperium a lot too
I can see the comparison, but not as mucha. I have Lost Ruins with Lost Expeditions and Leaders, and it's seen the table more than the other 2 games.
