I'm with you on Agricola. I've played it solo at least 10 or more times, bought the app, and just have never had fun as much as I tried. My mind couldn't wrap around how to get anything done in the 16 turns. I have the Moore's expansion and the wooden organizer/insert for sale or trade if anyone wants it!
The more I get into the hobby the more I realize why these older games are so good. Played Ra a few weeks ago and it's incredible. I think I'll give Agricola a go on BGA sometime soon!
We tried Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion and I really didn't liked it. For a game that is so zoomed in on what is happening, almost every mechanics didn't make sense. You're doing rest in the middle of a fight, doing stupid stuff to get your deck upgrades like following a wall for the whole mission and the story seems to have been written by a kid. If I want to play a dungeon crawler, I'll play Cthulhu: Death May Die, if I want a epic campaign game I will play Oathsworn and if I want interesting exploration I will play Sleeping Gods.
I really enjoy the puzzle in Gloomhaven JOTL, but the story is very forgettable. I also think the map book is amazing and more of a reason I didn’t want to get into the big box. Setting up all the tiles sounds like a pain. I think all the games you mentioned sound awesome though.
Hmmmm.... praise of Architects is almost universal and you *DO* admit that you played it once, at 5 players, and that included multiple "beginner" players (I'm assuming these beginner players are literally people who maybe have never played a game of the complexity of Architects). Just saying that might be why the play took so long, hence wasn't fun.
I think the two main factors that hurt my first impressions were the theme and length. I 100% agree that playing at 5 players and with newer players added a lot of time to it so that's not the game's fault at all. However, the theme didn't really grab me or my friends. I'm way more interested in Paladins so I'm looking forward to trying that!
@@TotallyBoard Funny you mention Paladins, that is arguably my favorite game of all time, although I've only played it solo. I would be surprised if you ended up feeling that the theme was more strong in Paladins, I think I've heard it described as the least thematic in that trilogy, but that doesn't mean you won't like it. Make sure to ONLY play it at the two player count the first time you play it.
@@paulhamrick3943 yeah, I’m really not sure what to expect tbh but the cover and “paladins” aspect interests me more than Architects. And good recommendation on 2-player! I’ll keep that in mind. Have you played Endless Winter: Paleoamericans by chance?

Really! Tapestry is such an amazing game - haven’t played solo but the 4-5p game, while lengthy, is amazing!
I sorta regret not trying it IRL. Also, congrats on winning the giveaway! What’s your email?

Agricola is great. It's old and i still think it's one of the best designed games I've ever seen.

You sell some really good games! And explain well why they didn't work for you.
Thank you! I appreciate that

Agricola :( Try it sometimes its good one.
I know! Still sad I didn't get it to the table. I'm sure I'll come back to it eventually
Tapestry is highly overrated; the game did not worth the hype it took
I heard that after looking into it more. I thought the concept looked really cool but it wasn’t for me after trying on BGA.

star/fantasy realms gets really boring after 2 plays
