Triumph Trifecta - Week 2: "Fight The Good Fight" [COVER]
For Week 2 of 3, "Triumph Trifecta", Let's go with...
"Fight The Good Fight" is a band composition with lyrics by the Canadian virtuoso guitarist and lead vocalist, Rik Emmett, who was inspired by his aunt, who was dying of cancer. "What can you tell someone who is facing the last challenge of this life?" he said in a Songfacts interview. "Or - what will you tell yourself? If you're in a rock band called Triumph, what message can you share with the people listening to a song on the radio, or standing on their chairs, out in an arena? Everyone gets to decide what their own 'good' fight will be, but everyone should be encouraged to discover it, and do it."

Van Halen - Me Wise Magic | TransTrem ❗ [Definitive FULL Cover]
Просмотров 15 тыс.6 месяцев назад
For 'Me Wise Magic', Eddie Van Halen used a Trans Trem and Sustainer. To save a few (several thousand ;-) bucks, I built my own custom "Chineberger" or "Chandberg" headless guitar, and equipped it with a modified S-Trem*. *NOTE: The S-Trem bridge does not have locking positions, so I could not nail that "F# Stop" exactly like King Edward. However, to stay as true to the original as possible, I ...
Bon Jovi - Livin' on a Prayer | Talkbox'in & Scream'in 🎤❗Cover by Sean McCabe
Просмотров 9157 месяцев назад
It was great fun breaking out the Talk Box, a la Peter Frampton. Richie Sambora owned it just as well on "Livin' on a Prayer" as Peter Frampton did on "Do You Feel like We Do"! The modulation in "Livin' on a Prayer" by Bon Jovi can be dangerous to the vocal cords. Just ask Jon Bon Jovi, who freely admits that belting out the high notes to this song concert after concert for nearly 4 decades all...

Awesome bro 👌🤘 big like and sub 🤘🤘
Thx so much for the "big like", and even more for the sub! 🙏🤘
coolest cover of me wise magic ive ever seen. was always curious how he did those controlled feedback, turns out it was a sustainer, same with the end for "respect the wind".
Thanks for diggin' it! Yeah, both MWM and Twister were released in 1996, so Eddie was having some kinda fun with his sustainer. Really innovative for the time! 👍🤘
Really excellent.
Really appreciate it! 🙏
awesome🎉🎉🎉
Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it! 🤘
It's great after "Humans Being" was released months ago, the group reunited with DLR & recorded two new songs for the 1996 greatest hits album because they really rock 😎🤟😎🤟😎
Eddie was really expanding his guitar horizons at this time. So sad we only got two new songs from him on this album. 😔 Just think what could've been! 🤔
Looks like you're getting ready for your next cover with the Rhodes VST plugin! Can't wait to hear how it turns out. Good luck!
Thanks, I'm working on it! Full cover should be ready for upload Saturday. 👍
oooh yeah!!! 👍 love me some journey!!! who doesnt right!!!! nicely done buddy!!!! 😊👍👊🙌
You got that right! (Except for maybe when I try and sing Journey!) 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks Chad! 🤘🤘🤘
Eddies playing was developing incredibly during this time. It's too bad that health and personality issues got in the way. There's a lot on tape at 5150 that will eventually be released - maybe.
So true! I hope they release some of that material from Eddie's vault before too long... I ain't gettin' any younger! 🤗
This is some kind of masterpiece Sean! Excellent job of recreating this epic tune. All the nuances are there -- I especially like the Discovery intro, where you faithfully replicated Alex's "noodling" with the pinch harmonics expertly included. Your tones and effects throughout are just spot on, as is the vibe of each individual part. Really well done -- I always thought that the protagonist takes his own life just before the Elder Race rides in to the rescue and destroys the Temples of Syrinx and takes back the planet... kind of depressing that he just missed seeing his dream come true. And some Rush fans have noticed that the voice at the end (which many say is Neil Peart) says "Attention all planets of the Solar Federation" (7 words) 3 times... 7x3=21. Then he says "We have assumed control" (4 words) 3 times... 4x3=12... so that makes 21 12. Anywho, I digress -- this is spectacular work from start to finish! Bravo!🤘💥🤘
I always enjoyed the "noodling" part myself. I think all guitarists can relate, even after we learn to play, we still do that same thing Alex did when we pick up our guitars... We pluck each note open one at a time, hit a harmonic or two, and then we "race back to the barn". 🚗 Great observations there... many hidden meanings in this song to decipher. Neil Peart was a real genius, in both his playing and his lyric writing. I could go on and on for days about all three of them, but I don't want to be unfaithful to Eddie! 🤣 No worries... both Van Halen and Rush tattoos shall stay emblazoned on my arms until I someday join my idols in Rock and Roll Heaven! 😇🙏🤘
Beautiful work Sean! Although I'm morally opposed to any song that doesn't have drums in it.... lol, JK!!🤣🤣 Terrific playing and vibe my man. 👊👊👌👌
Thank you Mike! This must be the third time that I have redone "Fire and Rain". I can still kinda belt the high notes to my standard rock fare, but when it comes to trying to emulate JT's warm baritone, ain't no amount of vocal processing gonna save the day for me. 😢 Obviously, that won't stop me! 🤜 👊 🤛
Man the fact that three guys did all that. But also they managed to make all 20 minutes an engaging listen.
Well spoken! 2112 takes us back to a time when we purchased a vinyl album, read everything in the record sleeve and actually listened to the entire album all the way through. 2112 is the perfect example of an entire record side being an "engaging listen". From The Arp Odyssey intro, all the way through to the "We have assumed control" ending, the needle stayed on the record! 🤘
Tight
Thanks!
Nice job! The snare sound is great! What mic did you use?
I am not sure what mic Niko used on his snare for 2112? Feel free to hit him up on his channel and inquire. Thanks for watching!
This is pretty incredible!
Thanks for diggin' it Marc! 🤘
Hey there fellow Rush fans! This one took the wind out of me for sure... a good 2 weeks of focused playing and editing. Please take a moment to leave a comment and help validate my borderline crazy devotion to the sheer genius that is RUSH! 🙏🤘
AWESOME!! My hat is off to you for having the bolas to pull this off! Great job, Sean!
Glad you enjoyed it! At the moment, I can't seem to get 2112 out of my head. It even played on repeat in my darn dreams last night! 🤣
Nice job BTW...
Thx so much! 🤘
I've told my family that 2112 must be played 3 times at my funeral. Nothing else.
That sounds like a great idea! 🤣 I think my wife has heard this song enough for now though, after 2 weeks of relentless recording and editing. 😅
Did this guy play Barney before this?
❓
Amazing tone and perfect cover on this song!! Congrats guys!! 🔥🤘
Really appreciate the support and kind words! Keep rockin'! 🤘
Man thats really good...can i please buy that 5150 stripe guitar..i love it You got that Perry Ferrel stage vibe
Hey, thx so much! My 5150 Frankie was a fun project to build. Some think it's a Chinese copy, but I actually sourced all the parts individually, same as the "Chineberger". 🤣 The 'Strat' is the real deal. However, it's obvious enough that my Wolfgang USA Tour Relic IS a Chinese copy. No way could I (and most others) afford a real one of those! 🤗 "Perry Ferrel" huh? He's cool, so I'll take it! 🤘
Excellent performance 🎹🎵🎸💯 sounds amazing 🤩 New Subscriber added 👍🎧😎
Thank you very much for the nice comments, and even more for the sub! 🙏🤟🤘
hey 👋 buddy!! Hiii !!! How are you my dear friend, its chad from 'chad knauer drumming'... may not remember me😂,but I unfortunately had issues with my 'chad knauer drumming' channel so I was forced to start a new channel. Hey Chad! Of course I remember you! Welcome back to RUclips. Thanks for reconnecting, and for your nice comments. 🤘
@ awesome buddy!! thats cool man!! whats up buddy!! nice!! 👍 thank you for welcome back 👊😄 happy be back ty🙏!! big time appreciate support man !! and yes you ate ofcourse welcome!! 🙏 my pleasure
Great playing. Over processed vocals took a bit away.
Thank you very much. I agree with you 💯 on my vocal processing. The timbre of James Taylor's voice has always eluded me. I am far more comfortable belting out the high and hard rock tunes. 🤘
great that straght gotta go... wouldnt play that with your fingers
❓
Perfect !!! But do i see a chinese eVh copy ?......
Yeah... I can't afford the real thing. 😢 I"m just a poor boy whose intentions are good! 😊 Thanks for stopping by and watching! 🤘
Very very well done ✅
Many thanks 🙏🤘
Well this marks the triumphant return of Sean, and with no less than a stellar-to the level of definitive-rendition of probably the emblem of Kiss songs. And with no less than Mr. Conway bashing the skins. Man am I pumped to be set to collaborate with you both soon!
After a nearly 6 month break, I figured it would be better to come back with something easier to play than Van Halen. What Kiss may lack in musical virtuosity, they more than make up for with showmanship. My playing is not the only thing a bit rusty... so are my video editing chops. "Use it or lose it!" 😉 Thanks for the kind words, and I am looking forward to our next collab as well. 👍
Perfection!!!!!! Wish I knew where to get a trans term guitar that isn’t $5K+
You and me both! Being a man of modest means, I had to think carefully how to pull this one off realistically with my much more affordable "Chineberger". 🤔🤗
Did you make it or have it made? Do you have a suggestion how to make my own Chineberger ?
I ordered all separate parts, and built it myself. It was kind of a PIA to do, but I like to tinker. I purchased everything from AliExpress, except for a used Steinberger S-Trem that I purchased from a private seller. Even headless copy guitars can get pricey, so if you want to save big, try and source individual pieces at the best prices, all the while trying to maintain some level of quality and playability. I purchased a pre-finished basswood body, EMG-style pickups, pots, jack, headless neck with locking nut, and not one, but two of the infamous Overlord of Music bridges. Trust me, something on this POS will break, and you will want backup parts! I pulled parts out of the S-Trem, and retrofitted them with the Overlord of Music Bridge, along with several other modifications, from saddle bridges, to spring, to thrust bearing washers, to gun oil to get things moving smoother, etc. Even with all this time, effort and nominal expense, as I mentioned in my video Description, I still did not accomplish a true locking T-Trem bridge, but rather nice looking modified S-Trem that can almost get me through a song without going totally out of tune! Haha What helped make the video look like I was playing a real TransTrem was the pre-production transposing I did in the DAW, allowing me to play along for video in the same positions I would with the real thing. ;-) So was it worth it? Probably not, but I need something to do in retirement to keep myself busy. This would not be the first guitar project I spent too much time on! 🤗
one of my favorite underrated VH songs. NICE JOB!
Thanks David! MWM definitely deserved far more attention than it received; and leaves us guessing what might have been if Eddie stayed healthy and kept on writing?!
Hell yeah Sean! You captured the KISS vibe -- especially that guitar solo! I was waiting for a smoke bomb inside your guitar though! 😜😜😮Spot on my man! 🤘💥🤘🔥
Well, I figured your drum set smoke bombs could not be outdone, so I decided to leave the pyro to the experts! 🤗 Hey, if the "KIss Army Big Kid" liked it, I'm all smiles! 😊 Thanks for the great support Mike! 🙏
what masterful performance and song in general, still curious why they never ever performed it live. it is so ambitious i bet it took them a long time to record it! VH and you guys too! awesome job
Thanks so much! I think Eddie knew MWM was way to involved to pull off live to full effect. His hands were certainly full with TransTrem and Sustainer duties just for starters, not to mention DLR who could barely pull off the vocals in the studio, let alone live. I read that it took 2 weeks of multitracking, numerous takes and tons of effects to get his vocal good enough for prime time. So yeah, your bet is spot-on! 👍
@@seanmccaberocks In a way I think it is one of their most ambitious and involved pieces ever no? It's amazing and I bet was a B to record, guitar included! :)
at 6:26 I thought the sustain+harmonics were turned on but they seem to be off. What happens if you keep it on? I mean, unless VH was making pinching harmonics on the originals, but even then with sustain & hamonics buttons there would be no need for pinching I guess... Anyway, amazing work, I just LOVE this music, especially its harmonics!!! Thank you so so so very much for this!!!
Interesting you mentioned this... I wondered the same in trying to decipher Eddie's wizardry on MWM! I was confused at times whether he was using the sustainer, pinched harmonics or a combination of both (or nothing at all) for the desired effect. TBH, I was unable to perform the whole sustainer sections in one take to my satisfaction. I laid down several, and then chose the best ones to edit down to one seamless take, both sonically for the DAW, and visually for FCPX. No doubt through all of this, I accidentally flipped the switch(es) on-to-off and vice versa, in trying to keep my fingers in time with my confused brain. So, I can't be sure that my most accurate actual takes made it to the final video edit you viewed. I hope this explains it. 😉 Good catch there... and great ear! 👂
LOVE IT!!!!
THX SO MUCH!
+1!!
Me Wise Magic, Amsterdam, Fire In the Hole. Had there been more of the good stuff in the 90s Van Halen would’ve continued.
Yes indeed! The tracks you mention are a small and wonderful taste of what could have been...
very cool bro
Thank you kindly! 🤘
You must have such a blast making these! 😂 The attention to detail is remarkable. I bet you’re also learning a thing or two every time. What an awesome hobby!
I do enjoy the long and convoluted process, although it can be taxing at times. Getting older compounds things, but we just have to "do the best we can, with what we have, where we are! 😉
❤ Excellent! Top Notch! The Transtrem definitely makes the song more authentic, performance was superb!
Thanks for watching, and for "locking in"! 😉
Wow - that's hard to play right and you make it look easy. Damn.. Your gear in the background is epic too btw - a sideshow that I can't stop looking at.
Thanks for the compliments. As you can see, GAS is a very real affliction. I am toning it back now (only because there is no more room on my walls to hang more guitars!) 🤣
Great!! Just great!! The background harmonies on this are so complex. Well done and painstaking I'm sure.
Many thanks! I did play and sing all my parts, but to be transparent, I did so along with a backing track to sweeten the mix. I still go through "painstaking" steps to understand and replicate all parts regardless. Thank God for the modern day DAW that enables us hobbyist musicians to produce decent covers in our bedrooms! 🤟
Nice
Thanks
Wow, outstanding job bravo 👏
Thank you so much 😀
This sounds killer Sean! Thank you for the shout out my man -- here's to the BOAW Tour!! 🤘🤘💥💥
Always my pleasure to bang out these covers with you Mike! Yes, let's raise our glasses to 'The Best of All Worlds Tour'! 🍻🤘
what a nice performance. not a fan of the voice effects though, sounds like you are singing in a cave. Thank you for your work.
Thank you, for the most part. 😉 Well, I suppose I could have dialed in the vocal effects better... be it small hall, big hall, cavern or CAVE 🤣 For the high modulation in this song, I am probably better off hiding in a cave! 😜 Thank you for watching and commenting. 🙏
Not only impressive playing, but the custom made guitars you have are a joy to behold. I LOVE the idea to do the yellow/black bumblebee, white/black and red, white and black Frankensteins combined into one! The matching headstock with Sammy-era logo is a nice touch to boot. Then, making your own steinberger transtrem as well?! Awesome all around! Might I ask what kind of bridge, where you got it and if it required any changes on the nut side? May have to replicate this somehow with one of the cheap Steinbergers, a knockoff Strandberg or possibly even a real one.
Thanks so much... especially for taking the time to notice and compliment my guitars. They all have a story, with great memories of sourcing, swapping parts, pickups, pots, necks, painting (OK, not so much on painting!!! Haha), etc. Us old dudes must have healthy hobbies in our retirement to keep busy! ;-) As for the bridge, I just finished replying to another question about it, so I will paste it below for your convenience (BTW, only swapped out the grub screws on the nut side): "Thank you! Ah, my "Chineberger" S-Trem! Now that's a wonky thing... I did the work myself. It's actually a "hybrid" between a 2nd hand S-Trem I bought cheap for parts, and the infamous Chinese "Overlord Of Music" headless guitar bridge (I actually bought 2 of those to have extra parts for perceived inevitable breakdowns, which of course did occur.) I combined parts to make it work to my liking, including but not limited to swapping out springs (original was far too stiff) adding thrust bearing washers (original teflon washers were sticky, cheap and prone to cracking), and finally some gun oil to get things slippin' and slidin' smoothly. Would I recommend doing something like this? Well, only if you like to tinker, have plenty of patience and want to save a few bucks ('cause ya gotta dig DEEP if you want a real TransTrem!) 🤘"
Great job! Hard work pays off! Very entertaining and accurate!
Thanks for the nice nod! "Accurate" is always nice to hear when covering EVH. "There can be only one". Long live King Edward! 👑🤘
nailed it!
thx man! 🤘
This is the COOLEST video of ANY kind I've seen for a very very LONG TIME! Great Job!!
Oh Wow! Such a COOL compliment! 😎 You made my day! 😊 Thx so much, and keep on rockin'! 🤘
Great job!! This is a hard song to pull off as well as this.
Thanks for recognizing my "painstaking" efforts! 😅 Yeah, ain't gonna lie, this one took some time to complete. But it was well worth it in the end. EVH Rocks! I remain his humble servant. 🎸
Awesome job! Can you talk a bit more about that modified tremolo? Like who did it and how?
Thank you! Ah, my "Chineberger" S-Trem! Now that's a wonky thing... I did the work myself. It's actually a "hybrid" between a 2nd hand S-Trem I bought cheap for parts, and the infamous Chinese "Overlord Of Music" headless guitar bridge (I actually bought 2 of those to have extra parts for perceived inevitable breakdowns, which of course did occur.) @@seanmccaberocks thanks for the reply! I do have the patience but after viewing the video, I can’t work out how you were able to get it to lock like the real transtrem. You really knocked it out of the park!
Well, totally understandable... because it's an optical illusion. I was not able to get it to lock like a real TransTrem, but if it looked that way, then "Mission Accomplished". My intentions were not to fool anyone, as you can see from this pasted excerpt at the top of my video description (I understand most just watch RUclips videos without reading the description, so again, it would be most difficult to figure out how I pulled this off without first reading the Description): "*Disclaimer: The S-Trem bridge does not have locking positions, so I could not nail that "F# Stop" exactly like King Edward. However, to stay as true to the original as possible, I transposed applicable sections in my DAW in advance, so that I could continue playing in the proper "open" positions. For all intensive purposes, it should appear exactly the same as if I were using a TransTrem instead of an S-Trem." Hope this clarifies, as what I did took quite a bit of analyzing and transposing in advance, prior to actually playing the part for video.
