You're not going to know with the trees going dormant right now. They stop growing during that time, so nothing will happen now. You need to test it in the Spring or Summer. Also, you shouldnt feed or fertilize plants and trees during this time because it will force new growth that will die when it gets cold causing damage to the tree. This is why trees go dormant, so they DON'T have new growth when it gets cold.

Look into EM which stands for effective micro organisms. It's an amazing all natural product with a gazillion ways of using it. Have fun! Love from Belgium

Can you elaborate briefly on your ending comment of using a non selective herbicide to "kill everyting off in the begininng" would have saved a ton of work on the back end please? (what herbicide, when exactly, etc.) I am going to be begininng my second season this upcoming Spring in upstate NY with my Fescue lawn (which i really didn't begin putting any effort into until June this summer) and would like to start as early as possible doing all the steps i need to have a successful (hopefully) season of full lawn care and developement. Last year I was mowing into December....

No amount of watering from sprinklers is better than rainfall. We've not had rain in NC for 41 days and my newly seeded lawn is suffering from lack of water. Mind you, I have six sprinklers with timer.

Sadly that has happened her in il. It was a great season!
