Rhode Island Sportfishing
США
Добавлен 6 июл 2018
Welcome, if you like what you see subscribe and like! This helps me gauge what kind of content to put together.
On this channel I will mainly be focusing on saltwater fishing off of the coast of Rhode Island in season, and hunting in the 5 month off season. I have been fishing since the age of 3 and specifically fishing Block Island Sound / Rhode Island shoreline since 1997 and hunting since 2007.
My past includes everything from trout fishing throughout New England, tournament bass fishing all over Connecticut, inshore as well as offshore saltwater fishing including the New England canyons, Hudson to Oceanographer, and Cape Cod bay tuna fishing.
My forte is ground fishing, rooted from years of freshwater bass fishing (jig fishing).
Vessel is a year 2000 24 ft Silverhawk out of Point Judith, RI. Yanmar power, furuno electronics. I’m hoping the videos I share will be educational and informative for everyone. Enjoy!

Rhode Island Tautog fishing in heavy wind | Building a productive area | Rig Overview
With wind exceeding 20 kts we made the best of this outing. Fishing was good once we became established the bite turned to all tog. Largest tautog went 22.5", 7lbs 11oz.
Lots of seabass (dozens) and a bunch of 15-17" tautog starting out but our limit consisted of all decent fish.
I also go over the rig we are using, discuss staying on a spot / building an area and bust the anemometer out for a true gauge on what the wind was really doing.

Bluefin Tuna Jigging | False Albacore | Bonito | Speed Jigging
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.День назад
Join us for this early October trip in 30 fathoms off southern New England as we speed jig for a mix of Bluefin and albacore. The fish we were marking were at different depths, but the majority were holding 20 feet off the bottom. Two Bluefin were retained, a 32" and a 38" fish. This may be the last tuna trip of the season, but ya never know in New England when it will end. Tackle seen in video...
Wind finally let up, Tog' were chewin' | Rhode Island Tautog fishing
Просмотров 1,6 тыс.14 дней назад
This was the first of many tautog outings to come this season. We had just had almost 2 full weeks of wind, wind, wind. Glad to get out on the grounds and pick up some tautog. Fishing was done in 35 ft of water and although the fish were mainly small, we managed some keepers and also had a bunch of throwbacks, scup, bergal and sea bass. Toggin' will only improve as the water cools. Hopefully Oc...
Cod Jigging the windmills was a bust, but our second spot produced | Cod Jigging

Cod opened September 1st and we were on the grounds! The first area we hit was a spot that has been consumed by windmills and was a bust. There were no shortage of seabass however. After a short move we found a group of fish. The bite was short as it usually is but we managed a decent amount of fish in an hour and a half. Jigging Bluefin Tuna | 40 lb leader | Broken Rod
Просмотров 3,3 тыс.Месяц назад
With all the fishing pressure present on the offshore grounds recently I decided to scale down on leader to get bit and ended up landing a 61" Bluefin. To make the fight that much more difficult, my rod ended up snapping the top 6" off at hookset. The fight time was around 45 minutes, but I've edited out majority to keep it entertaining. Drag was initially at 8lbs or so and I progressively bump...

good job. I didn't think the triggers were still here
I actually tend to always catch them in October off RI.
Poor fish 😢
Small in Icelandic terms we have like 15kg cod everywhere 😁 Nice fish though 👌
Nice catch's what reel are you guys using, are you using mono or fluorocarbon , 50 / 60 lbs.

Appreciate it Freddy B!!
Another awesome video! Great seeing you out there last weekend again, excited to hear you’re going to be chartering next year I will spread the word!
Hey thanks Jake! I think I’ve seen you out there the last few weekends 🙂👍 I will be dabbling with chartering in 25’. Thanks for the best wishes and word of mouth! Appreciate it man!
Another great video. I saw one comment on the rig you use wasn't any good. I 've been using that same rig for over 40 years and never had a problem. I recently have been using jig heads and experimenting with a knocker rig like we used on the reefs in Florida. They seem to work good but in those conditions it would be tough because you have to fish light tackle
I saw that comment and replied. The rig is fine, I’ve been 20+ years with it. I may try some tautog jigs next season in shallow water.. never fished tog with a jig.
I swore I was not gonna subscribe to any more Rhode Island fishing channels because I get too jealous watching, but I had to add you guys. Thanks for the great content
Welcome aboard! Glad you enjoy!
Tautog fishing is getting better as the water cools and October rolls on. Make time to get out, this fishery will peak soon.
That is not a great rig at all. Your bait is right by the sinker knocking around. Plus if you hang up on the sinker you’re going to lose everything including the fish. Also in Rhode Island if you’re seeing mixed bag there’s not a bite to build. You need to move.
Thanks for the feedback. Everyone has a different opinion on rigs, I find this particular one to work well. I like the single hook and bait right on the bottom. The flurry of mixed species bottlenecked to pure tautog once they moved in. This is what I was explaining with building a spot. We find often that initially there will be various species but holding a spot and not picking up and leaving can be rewarding.
Good video. I just subbed
Appreciate it. Tried to cover a bit in the video
What rods are you guys using? Description says Gloomis but the link is St. Croix.
I updated the description. Both the rods we are using have been discontinued. The rod in the link is the closest comparison available to purchase.
Thanks..
Nice vid as usual! Had a similar day in eastern LIS Sunday, and same size for the best one of the day. Lots of short togs and bsb’s, but fun nevertheless. Even had a diaper striper hit a crab.
Thanks! I tried to cover a bit in the video. I think the bsb will slow down as the water cools. Our bite went to pure tautog once we were established.. Sounds like that striper was hungry!
I caught 4 of those fishing for tautog the other day. I've never seen so many
Interesting… this is the first I’ve ever caught.
@@RhodeIslandSportfishing Yea, I was up inside the bay. I've caught them before, but not this year. Maybe I caught the same one 4 times😄
I like how calm you guys are when fishing.
Haha, yeah no need to hoot and holler.. We are pretty disciplined.
How far out did you go 1 hour?
30 fathoms
Nice!! Those baby tuna hardly are around where I am . I was thinking of trailering to RI
Wow! another monster great job. I'm still fishing the bay but will head south this week.
@@stevenl34 we are still in 35-38 ft..
@@RhodeIslandSportfishing Thanks
Nice fish! Keep them coming.
Nice catch. I haven’t go in like a month hope this Tuesday the albies are there
@@wilvertperez I was out from Pt Judith to Brenton Reef Sunday. Did not see any albies..
Very nice
Do you need an hms permit for how far out you are?
Yes, tuna are a regulated migratory species. When targeting you will need a Highly Migratory Species permit. We are in 30 fathoms.
That's very good, dear, I love it. Where you trained to catch the awesome fish strategy...
That looked like a great day. The weather looked perfect and the fishing was awesome. I never tried jigging for tuna, only trolling and chumming
Weather was great! Your missing a whole portion of tuna fishing if you don’t jig.. Grab some metal and soft plastics and give it a go. The fight is superior to trolling in many ways! I’ve got an in depth tuna jigging video, check it out it will give you an idea of selection/hooks/rigging.
What kind of boat guys? Diesel on a center, not something you see everyday.
Vessel is a 24’ Silverhawk. Yanmar 4LH power.
You guys must be brothers? Twins?
Haha, yes brothers. We are 2 years apart
Very cool. My two younger have no desire to hunt or fish. Yet my father introduced it to all 3 of us at young age.
Guys was this last Friday the 4th?
No, not Friday
Got a few more weeks of the mid-shore bluefin bite, get out while you can.
Nice job 💪💪🔥🔥🔥
Thanks 🔥
Hey buddy. I always want to fish for big bonito. Went couple time I rhode island. But never get luck. Would you might let me know the location please. Thanks
We were in 30 fathoms
Nice catch!
Thanks Luke!
Is there any chance RISAA could get you to do a seminar for 2025?
Whats your opinion on leader material and size for tog from a boat in about 20-40ft. I swear last season I used 20lb mono.
I use 80 lb mono, usually new/old tuna line from deep in the spool. 20 is too thin for tautog
WOW! what a beast. Nice job, must have been tough fight trying to keep it out of the rocks.
Thanks! Yeah he dug a bit, I could feel the him scraping the rock with the leader. Luckily he never got hung up
Dumb clown breaks off a fish and leaves line and a hook hanging from its jaw..ON purpose...freaking googan!!!..NO CLUE how to whip a big fish..should learn from west coast tuna guys on how to whip a big tuna on lighter gear..absolutely disgusting sportsmanship!..funny how he knows the size..lmao
Great work, keep the content coming!
Thanks Nick
Nice fish boys!
Heck yeah Nick!
Cod season!! Another expert video guys.
We love fishing for cod!
Great video, awesome teamwork boys!
Thanks! Yeah AJ was on him, kept him 180 off the side the whole time. Not easy to do with a larger fish
Tautog fishing is great fishing
Great catch!
Glad you enjoyed it
Nice size for the grill
Sure is!
Love your videos
She’s pretty! 👏🏼
Where are the windmills? Thank you
South of Martha’s Vineyard
you high sticked it clown...saw the vid...blank was pointing up towards 11 at least as you kept lifting it...googan move..Uh..UH I dont know what happed..lmao
This is my favorite time of the year. I got my limit 3 days this week. All 18 to 20 inch's up in the bay. I've been using a 1-to-2-ounce lead jig head with crab in 30 ft. Water temp was 65.
Sounds like a good trip! I’ll be at my ‘big’ tog spot this weekend, hoping for a mature fish!
@@RhodeIslandSportfishing Good luck, hope you're making a video of it
@stevenl34 Thanks!
Are you guys fishing by the crafty one costumes together classic ?
No, Will not be participating.
