I made a EuroPanelMaker library for OpenSCAD!
Tasty wee project. I have built a couple of arduino based desktop granular synths and was going to build the next one in euro rack format. This is a tidy implementation.
I like that. Great work, Benjie. What MCU is that?
Thanks! The MCU is just an Arduino clone. The sounds are actually coming from my analog oscillator. Adam's card is doing the sequencing. :)
@benjiaomodular I see, I did wonder about the sound. Thanks for sharing.
I need to make this two make sure I don't see magic smoke. I have ex1¹😊ceptional Lucky to not esse any
Your panels look amazing! I love the hand drawn look on the silkscreen. Are you using any plugins to go from Inkscape to Kicad? I'm interested in your work flow. I can make functioning pcbs but they look nothing like yours!!
Hey, thank you so much! I don't use any plugins to do this. My workflow right now is: 1. Do a rough layout of the controls on KiCAD's PCB editor 2. Export as SVG 3. Import SVG into Inkscape 4. Draw my labels and refine the layout (alignment, etc.), using the SVG as a guide 5. Remove guide elements 6. Export to PNG 7. Import into KiCAD through the Image Converter as a Silkscreen footprint 8. Finalize PCB layout 9. Export Gerber...
@benjiaomodular Thank you, I'm going to try it!
I really like the rotating visual effect that the LEDs provide when advancing from the first to the second row of steps. Greetings and Thank you for sharing.
Would you be willing to sell pcb/panel set?
Yummy clicky knob 😊 Nice design btw, would love an inkscape method tour from you ! What a cool idea the build/demo to finish the video !
Awesome work! I actually just finished my first baby 8 layout last week, glad you released this video and saved me the headache of those few problems before I sent it to print 😅 I would have been scratching my head for weeks I was also curious why you connected your op amps vcc- to ground instead of -12v… Keep up the great work!
Thanks! Good question, I guess it's just a leftover from when I built my modules for a single 9V supply. You'll probably be better off connecting it to vcc-, just have to test it.
Very nice. I would love to make one of these.
Thank you very much!
Nice one! Good looking panel too 🔥
thank youuu
Love the montage 😵💫
thanks!! 🙌

What is that, Benjie, an electronic rain stick.
It's my bandmate Datu's creation called the Wonderpole. And yes, it does have a rain stick function. 😁instagram.com/wonderpoleproject/
the bag, in which the case just fits perfectly is very nice, as if you built the case for that bag philippines seems so nice, craziness also riding the tricycle to the bus is 🔥 lol
haha! thanks. it's pure coincidence. the bag was originally for my pedalboard. 😆 it's great. i don't do it all the time, when i bring my bigger synth, i'd have to drive. 😅
I know what you mean, it's just something you don't think about when you make the first one. I need to move sockets down away from the encoder on my sequencer .
Lovely proto-bodging.
Thanks!!
There are mini toggles that might work
Ooohm I'll have a look around. Thanks
Or smaller knobs! I completely relate. Until you have the thing in hand, it's really hard to understand how it's all going to come together! Looking really nice!
True, but these knobs are non-negotiable since i really want them to match the rest of the setup. 😆 It was worth the try! I'm sure I'll get used to the spacings eventually. I'll do another version soon. Thanks man!
@ LOL! Totally understand. Esthetics cannot be ignored! Cheers!
🕷️
thanks for sharing. Say, why is D28 the other way round? doesn't it prevent everything? D27 is clear... to pull down the gate's half cycle with the clock.... but D28... feels wrong... any thoughts?
No problem! That's intentional. It's called an "AND Gate". electronicsarea.com/or-and-and-logic-gates-with-diodes/
We all been there, cutting tracks and soldering wires and jumpers. It's all part of the fun and process. Problem finding and puzzling over a circuit board for hours.
It's all part of it right? 😁
What are you working on
It's a DIY sequencer for a modular synth.
Yup, this is correct. It's my take on the Baby-8 sequencer
Looks trustworthy 👍
Of course it is! I hope. Haha🤞
They are doing the magic fix it dance. 🕺 💃
And it works! 👯👯👯👯

Thank you for being my camera operator for the night! Haha! 🙏
Awesome vlog! Would love to hear your full set! Are all these your kitties? 😮
Thanks!! Yup, we rescue strays. 😊
you’re a hero 🥹
thanks for the vlog , really enjoyed !
Thank you so much!
Lovely video, a lot that I could relate to as someone who also performs live with my DIY Eurorack synth here in India! Lovely to be introduced to the DAWless/modular electronic scene there in such a way, I hope someday somehow I get to visit <3
Thank you so much! That sounds awesome. 🙌
I made a ruler that has a similar DIY JST connectors. It also doubles as a op amp pinout reference.
ohh that's a great idea!
That is a very cool idea. I did something similar for my DIY distortion module for the power led.
Looking forward to your book or pdf one day love your work :)
@@kevindewinter8235 Wow. Never thought of that. Thanks! That'd be a nice goal to have in the future. 🙏
@ since your work is a lot point to point i would buy a book with beautifull “Manhattan” style diy’s with good grounding and pure materials like copper, titanium and ceremics. Also diy op-amps like sparko’s would be loveley
I will be on it soon. I have been waiting for you to make this. You're the boss .. Thank-you
awesome! thank youu
I have it on my to-do list to do one of your builds! I need to figure out what’s missing in the rack. Thanks for sharing these videos. They’re some of the best content out there for DIY Eurorack!
Aww thanks, Deland! Not sure what you have, but the delay and the reverb are staples on my patches.
A 74HC32 IC will do that. Costs about 5¢
of course! but we're also allowed to use modules that are already on the rack.
@benjiaomodular The Disting (Mk4) can do logic operations too. Surely this is an excuse to build a 2hp logic module; 2 inputs, AND, OR, & XOR outputs ? 🙂
@@massimookissed1023 yup! it's on the list 👌
… or is there enough room to simply offset them from the hole? You wouldn’t have a direct light dead center but more diffused… or maybe it would be too diffused? I’m not sure how much complexity would be added to the board mounting on the back. I’m interested in seeing where you land with this!
yup!! i was also curious about that. keeping them in the front would definitely be ideal for me. i'll try some stuff out and report back. :D
UPDATE: i tried to hack something together, some of the metal parts in the socket mechanism were blocking the light from shining through. there has to be a sweet spot..
Yeah... I'm looking at a Thonkiconn right now and there's a flat strip that is where the tip of the plug connects. It would need to be opposite that almost next to the pin... hmmmmm. I'm not sure how small those smd LEDs are but that's looking pretty tight! If you could get it to work, that bit o' metal would make a nice reflector for the light!! LOL!
@RandomMakingEncounters i know, right? I'm already probably using that piece of metal as a reflector the way I have it now. I could nudge the LED closer to the pin, but that same piece of metal kinda pushes the jack towards that direction which makes it a bit sketchy. I'll play around with positioning a bit more I might end up just mounting the LED upside down from the back through a hole.
Look for a reverse mount led and put it on the backside, shining through a hole!
You could make those lights the same way it made in Antumbra modules.
yup! doing back-mounted next time
I think those ones are meant to have a hole in the PCB to create enough depth.
Make holes under the jacks and place the LEDs from the other side of the PCB.
yes he noticed the problem and posted a comment on reddit , there is a clearance issue with the jacks
Yup! That's the plan for the next version
Hello! What is the name of the mysterious noise generating chip that appears at the beginning of your schematic?
Hey! If you meant the one in the Delptronics LDB-1 schematics, think it's just a digital noise chip by Delptronics. For this patch, I used a white noise generator that I also built: benjiaomodular.com/post/2022-07-26-white-noise/
Pretty nice!

Thanks! Yeah, that's instagram.com/anbemusik/. I was able to play with it after the show too. Fun little thing
You're a braver (and neater) man than I'll ever be lmao

Spring reverb is a beautiful sound. Didn’t like it until I bought a GM and ended up using it just because I had it
Nice!

Looks very nice and does a great job to the sound, love it!
thank you so much!
You hear that during the movie and you know things are gonna get epic!

You could connect the CD4017 to a CD4051 to add cv control with some extra components to translate CV into binary. Cool sounds, gotta make me one too.
Wow, that does make a lot of sense. I'll add that to my list. Thanks!!
