DIY Backyard Transformation: 2 years in 8 minutes
This is our DIY Backyard Makeover, phase one! When we bought our fixer-upper, the backyard was completely neglected, barren and overgrown. We’re in a loud, often chaotic major city, but we wanted to create a peaceful backyard garden inspired by nature that feels like a retreat, removed from the hustle-and-bustle of the city outside. It took us 2 years to get the backyard cleaned up and usable and we’re not yet done, but we are proud and grateful for what we were able to accomplish so far with our new and improved backyard.
This video highlights the many projects we took on these past couple of years to create the backyard of our dreams including: building our deck, rebuilding the fence, bu...

Building a Pondless Waterfall on Flat Land
Просмотров 5 тыс.3 месяца назад
We built a Pondless Waterfall in our flat backyard. This video covers the steps we took to make it happen. It was a massive undertaking and definitely not a simple DIY project. But if you’re thinking of building one yourself, we hope this might be of some help and offer some tips and insights into what we learned along the way. In many ways it is a warning video on what not to do. So to help yo...
Smart Multi-Zone Drip Irrigation in 3 steps
Просмотров 8254 месяца назад
In this video we will try to breakdown how we installed a multi-zone smart drip irrigation system in our backyard, dividing the process into 3 steps to hopefully make it easier to follow. We went with an in-line install that taps into our house’s main water line, but if you’re planning to setup a system that stems from a hose bib in your garden or yard, most of the same basic principles will st...
DIY Garage Storage Shelves | Shed Shelves: Strong, Easy and Cheap
Просмотров 44 тыс.5 месяцев назад
There’s a ton of storage shelves plans out there for your garage, workshop or shed that rely solely on screws to hold up the shelves, but we’re going to be packing these shelving units with some heavy tools and equipment so we came up with a robust, heavy duty build that will stand the test of time and did NOT break the bank. The whole unit is made of 2x4’s, OSB and some wood glue and 2 1/2 inc...

Oak Wood Pedestal Accent Table: Design and Build

#handmade #woodworking In this video I’m going to try to make a tall pedestal accent table. A pedestal table is any table that has one central supporting column or pillar. It will act as a sort of plant stand for me, used to display a decorative vase. Sorry, another question... I'm trying to scale the rocks to the size of the feature. How long and how wide is your entire feature? And what are the approximate dimensions (LxWxH) of the largest rocks in it? The idea here is that, for a similar authentic look, a feature half the size would have rocks half the size. The space I have is roughly 2.5m from front to back, and 3.5m left to right, so it's kind of rotated 90deg from the norm, but that's the space available. I think to have a feature that reaches about 600mm high (about 2 feet in archaic measurement terms), but that could change. What size should the largest rocks be to make that look in proportion?

Any construction of this nature will accumulate mud in the reservoir. How do you clear that out and how do you protect your pump from becoming clogged and / or damaged by the mud?

Why did this require 2 sheets of OSB? I think your cost had an extra 25 USD. And judging by the edge paint on the OSB sheets, you oriented the strength axis incorrectly. If I'm not mistaken, then orienting your cuts correctly would increase the OSB strength by about 300% and its stiffness by about 400%.

First Class Presentation! I have been intending to organise the contents of my garage for some time, but kept delaying the work, as it became more cluttered, and assembling products on sale were not ideal, or too costly. However your excellent clip brought home some practical instructions on tackling the task, and the project work has finally been put in my diary to secure the required / advised items, and time. Thank you!

It really depends on what kind of wood you're using. Typical construction grade wood may start to warp and bend out of shape if you go so thin, but with hardwood you'd probably be okay using 1by's. Thanks for watching! Good luck on your project!

Couldnt you just dig 3 trenches for the 6x6's? That would save on gravel and the outer perimeter wood.

    • @40Figs
      @40Figs 26 дней назад

For sure! The area under the 6x6's is what really needs the support, but for us it has been helpful to keep everything underneath the shed clean and free of weeds and moisture.

Few years back, I had purchased faux hedge slats that gave about 97% privacy. They were good at the time but since then the coloring has faded and pieces of it are falling off. I'm going to replace this with your method. Will blend in better with existing fencing. Awesome work!!!

Well done! After repairing a wooden privacy fence at our last place I agree with your assessment to add a third horizontal board. Where we lived got a steady amount of high winds so we thought deck screws was going to be better but it turned out that nails would've been better because the screws kept snapping. Live and learn. Now we're at a new place that has a chain link fence. This was just the video we needed to inspire us to try the wooden privacy fence again.

I keep seeing this design. And I can't help think it's way over engineered. I thought of building something like this, and ended up buying a flimsy solution from Ikea, that is less than a 1x3. And it holds up fairly well. How much cheaper would a 1x4 single layer post design have been?
