thanx for the review!!! how to chose between the apple slice V3 and the skipper?.....
how this Tao is taking? Tx
Compared to the f-one ? Sk8 with MA. Like your reviews :)
The MA is very comfortable to ride, sure footed with even balance and a fair speed range. It is well suited for all riding styles and levels (on the right size). The Skate is very fast, lively and loose, it's a wave focused weapon for intermediate to advanced riders
Vs Swing fone? 🙏🏼
The Swing is a dedicated wave wing, it flags out impeccably, but isn't quite as comfortable pushing upwind, especially maxed or underpowered. The Flow is very versatile, it has very good flagged out behaviour and equally comfortable sheeted in blasting in it's wide range. The flow allows a wider range of use from a smaller quiver, the swing gives a better performance in a specific field. Neither would disappoint on the wave.
@@poseidonwatersportsukThanks ❤️
Edo is going to dominate. Just wait till he gets to his full potential 😅
Just published this reel from Foil Driving in the Whitsundays ruclips.net/video/QNP7_F2vOWk/видео.html Stunning weather mostly.... btw, this formally the "Foiling Frenzy" RUclips channel, now rebranded
What board do you use with the FD?
Epic technology
Epic riding! Keep up these videos
Another point I would like to ask. I only see board leash fixed to the hip. Do you think the wing leash proposed by the TAO fixed to the hip is better ?
Finally someone who test the TAO. We are big fans of it. But the brand is only known in the Kite-world. You shuld also mention, that the TAO is the lightest wing out there. Do you think that could have a negative impact in durability ? How do you think is the high end speed ?
Ripping but I had to hit the mute button 😂
Just sold my Armstrong foil looking for be best foil on a market. What do you think is the best brand? Also cost effective brand. I want to go to Armstrong but package deal is 3200
Hi😊 Two questions 1. Is the sonar system is also compatible with other boards like fanatic or duotone sky wing etc or does it not work well? 2. Which mast, carbon or aluminium is recommended for a heavy rider with ca 115 kgs ? Thx!
Fantastic review. Thx! I'm a wing foiler (93 kg, moderate skills). I bought the new HA980 with the Speed180. Super glide, phenomenal Frontwing. I'm thinking about getting the Flow220 for less wind and for maneuver training? what recommendation do you give?
PS: Glide220
I bought one and experience it to require significantly more speed to lift than my png 910…. So I kind of disagree that it lifts early… once up it is working fine as far as I can judge …. Still struggeling with the trimm
I was inspired to look at Appletree's products from this review. I dreamed about the Appleslice V3 since May and I managed to pull the trigger just recently. Yesterday I had the first session with it and I was blown away... After more than one year of "arrested development" because of what I suspected was "wrong gear" I can now officially confirm it was indeed the reason. I wish I had made this decision earlier, the best board for me so far. Thank you guys, some of the advice of this review stuck with me and made me understand what I was missing from the gear I owned.
This is great to hear!
What size did you get for your weight? Thanks
@@bathaii I’m currently 93kg dry and I got the 80 liters. I could have gone for the 70…
arek you using the gen 2 20cm or 25cm on this setup? thanks
Do you think the smaller sizes would be good for freestyle as well?
What differences did you find compared to the first version? Thanks a lot!
Hi ! Would you recommend this board for a beginner and light wind wing board ? Thanks
for light wind it is perfect and takes off easy. For a beginner it is quite narrow - in it's bigger size, if the person is used to standing on boards of a similar dimension (coming from windsurf or sup) it could work nicely and not be grown out of quickly. But if standing on stationary boards is new I'd recommend choosing something wider as a first board so progression is quick
I'd be interested on your views regarding Wing impact vests that are starting to pop up onto the market, the WIP 50N looks a good option but I am still on the fence regarding hooks. ruclips.net/video/49CZZ4xCrYw/видео.html
PSA: If the battery is in the FD, it's like an idling boat. While very rare, the motor could start without hitting the trigger and cut your fingers. So, never touch an uncovered prop with the battery installed. I cover my prop when taking a break on the beach because people love to touch it! -------- I'm loving my Foil Drive!
999 or 939?
The fuselage line is faaaaar to oversaturated with Axis, puts me right off.
The range is a mess. The spitfire is a slow lemon and this one, the tips can't be breached.. hopeless!
Hot topic!
Well summed up lads. Another cool feature for the 2024 Nova wings is the North Sails Carbon UDi tapes inside the tips of both Nova and Nova Pro wings that both stiffen and give a more reactive feeling as they snap back into shape
Nice one Ritchie. I’ve had one for 6 months. Love it, it’s a “session saver” as can always have fun if conditions are no good such as onshore. Also good if swell too big to prone.
Hi Guys, excellent review! Which of the 2 do your think is better at tacking? Thanks
The Pro for sure, it wins in all categories
Will the 999 be the biggest size in of the ART V2?
Cheers Richie and Co. I’m getting one!
Just waiting for my Ambassador set to arrive and I'm in!
Yeww! Thanks guys for the detailed insights, stoked you're frothing Foil Drive
Have been wing foiling for a year and just started with axis gear. Foil Drive has allowed me learn how to work with my different foils, get a sense of how they turn, how they perform pumping and especially useful - it’s allowed me to dick around with the rear foils to judge drag versus stability. Also able to keep looking at the speedometer on my watch to see when they stall and what drag they have. It’s gotten me into waves for the first time in my life (in a bay stealing wakes. It’s a great tool for training and practice and exploring. I’m using max system, weigh 95kg, using a 1401 art pro when I’m on my prone which is 30L. If I use my Appleslice which is 95L I can use a spitfire 900. In flat water that is.
#fingerblasters
🤦♂😅
Thanks guys for the review.. pleasure to watch it after all the work that went into to it!
I'm running a Appletree Slice V2 @70l - should I downsize to 60l on the V3 - the board would be a daily driver?
Hard to give a direct answer as it all depends on your size, conditions and riding style. Dropping 10L will feel much more lively and fun to ride. The (narrower) V3 60L will gather speed as quick and easy as the 70L V2, but dropping 10L if it is significantly under your body weight can make the difference between riding or swimming home in light conditions. if you drop you'll probably find you might loose a few knots of bottom end sessions, but gain more fun in the average to good sessions. After a little adaption time.
How does this compare to the Axis ART v2?
Chalk and cheese. The silk is like a stunt plane, the ART v2 a glider. Both excel in their field, the ART’s efficiency, speed range and glide make it next level for connecting fat bumps. The silk loves to bank into a hard rolled turn on steep sections and doesn’t flinch at turbulent water.
Think it sounds like a comparison is needed between the new offerings of F-One, Ozone and the older Armstrongs XPS ;-)
Neither of those 3 would disappoint! It would actually be quite hard to do a comparison as the pro's and con's on those 3 are almost the same. I think it would come down to rider preference on handle design and front/back hand pressure. Also whether you have a priority on discipline or looking for wider versatility. Welcome to give either of us a shout for a run down.
@@poseidonwatersportsuk What about build longevity? It's great to have a good wing but if it bags out after 15 uses then the performance drops like a brick?
Good question. Tough again as they are all top of the game and still perform equally well after a run of maxed out sessions. I think the best: Construction, seams and manufacture : easily ozone without question - it will stand the test of time. Anti stretch panels - XPS, its panel layout ages well. LE fabric abrasion durability - F-one uses a tougher style of Dacron that’s handles scrapes well.
Great review Lads
Great review! How do you compare it with Armstrong midlenght and KT ginxu super k in a similar volume?
Cabrinha were early and ahead of the pack to the "midlength" game and the swift nails the brief of a fast take off board that is lively to ride and versatile to different disciplines. But things do move quickly and the Army ML shape and construction is pretty special at gaining more ML performance. We havn't tried the Super K to give an honest comparison
Is this foil (999) faster than both the Spitfire 900 and the ART1099 (which have comparable surface areas)?
Havn't GPS tracked it, but yes i would say the 999 is faster than the 900 an 1099, it carries it glide faster and further too.
Nice review! What sizes you tested ? And how they fit your weight? I am 85kg and really looking to jump into axis range and as I am mainly winging this foil looks very promising:)
We only got got hold of the 999 V2 to test, similar weight to you, it feels like a good staple size for average conditions (15-20 knot wind, flat-chest high faces). If you are comfortable riding <1300cm foils you would be happy on this foil. Keen to try the smaller sizes, I feel as i feel they could be really lively and fun, so long as you have the conditions and riding level for them. Depending on your local conditions and level - I'd imagine if you had the 999 you would also want something smaller for the firing days. The 939 might work as a 1 foil quiver.
I will bite my tongue and avoid any spoilers of my own designer thoughts on this except to note that anyone on Axis foils should go to the Advance or advance+ fuselages. Quite rightly, they supplied these fuselages to bring the wings closer to the mast axis of rotation and reduce yaw control resistance for yaw initiated turning. There's so much more in-depth on this but I'll quit there.
Always running Axis on the Advance +. It really loosens their foils up and brings more life into them. Would recommend Advance + for almost all their foils and level of rider. It's amazing to see the development of the sport progress so quickly, brands stepping in late to the party have lots of data to get their products comparable quickly, it's nice to see brands like Axis who have been there since the beginning and helped make the sport it is today adapt and keep up as new lessons are learned and trends established.
Great review. Would be awesome to also see a review of the Konrad LX foils that fit the axis black fuselage and a comparison to this ART V2, as they seem to have quite similar attributes based on specs.
Konrad median line is more 2-D than Axis median line 1-D so you can interpret that for stability in turbulence vs the straight median line explanation which every time I listen to it converts to a word salad. I suspect Axis foil sections are slightly better than my own but no idea how they compare to Konrad, depends on Konrad's research prior to their recent startup. Axis have had plenty of time to refine their foil sections but they are also up against companies like Armstrong and many companies now days run simulation software to find weaknesses in their foil designs. I don't think the current state of art software gives accurate answers fast though and it's not just running the software, old computer saying "GIGO" garbage in, garbage out. If you don't feed the simulation software with things like distance from water surface, Atmospheric pressure, compressability of water(not), % of disolved gasses etc etc then you won't even get a close result from the software. And then things like turbulence from the wing, require 3D modelling of the fluid flow which is typically only approximated from 2D stacked layers. Ride quality is so much more than simulation results.
Thanks. Not tried the Konrad foils to compare, they look interesting. Will add to the list when there's opportunity
Good review, again. Was it a crazyshort advanced or the advanced + you used? Did you try a skinny tail and if so how did it compare with the progressive tail?
Thanks, glad you enjoy. Always the advance +, it really loosens up the Axis Foils and recommend it to almost all levels. Spent time with the progressive tails, not put time pairing it with a skinny yet.
At 1:02 😬🤣
whoops! 😬 lucky it's built strong
Really enjoying these reviews! My winging riding partner is on axis and going to buy one. I'm on armstrong ha v2. Looking forward to test this art v2 out and see how it compares to the ha v2.
Glad to hear you like. The ART v2 and HA v2 have a very similar range, but very different feel. Both weapons in their field, enjoy the back to back testing
@@poseidonwatersportsukHow is the feel different? Armstrong HA no doubt has a lower stall speed, turns prob about the same, same top speed?
Stall speed is similar in a same size comparison, HA v2 maybe slightly lower. The ART v2 is faster. The HA has a much looser roll. The ART v2 a looser yaw. Stock setting - the ART has more front foot pressure, the HA drives more from the back. They feel very different to ride. The HA's looser roll and rear drive makes it feel more 'surfy' and playful through gentle or snappy turns with minimal input, the ART is more planted and flat, liking a firmer input and is more suited to softer turning and rides like a smooth 'glider' between lumps
Hi, Nice review! I'm coming from hps 1050 for very light wind and hps 930 for everything else. Mostly finding they both hit the wall for speed (although that could be me) around 38kmph. Sounds like 999 would replace both and be faster? Looking for a form of quiver - what might that look like e.g. 999 replaces and 939 or art pro for faster/higher wind? 85kg on 85l board intermediate for reference...
You’d definitely enjoy the upgrade from HPS to ART v2, you would find the 999 faster than those sizes. Worth saying that the take off speed and forgiveness of the 1050 is real mellow and swapping to a 999 v2 might loose you a few knots of bottom end, at least for a while until you have learnt the high aspect take off technique. For sure the range of the new 999 would bridge those sizes. About small ART pro vs ART v2 - they are very different, the pro is like a drag car and likes to go straight, flat and fast, quite locked in with an abrupt stall speed, it only does that 1 riding style very well. The ART v2 is like a touring track car, it still has stacks of performance but likes to turn and can be ridden slow. If you want playful and fast go 999 & 879. Hope that helps?
Could the Nova pro in 5 and 3.5 size cover the same range as the Nova in 2.9-4.2-6.0?
I think the pro has a much wider wind range and a 2 wing quiver totally doable. But whilst the pro does have a better top end, its bottom is about the same, so if you are needing the grunt of a 6m but still wanting to ride in 3m weather it might be tricky to only have 2
@@poseidonwatersportsuk Thanks for the reply!!
Hi guys, nice review, can I ask your opinion? Between north pro with boom and duo tone slick 2023? I’m looking for upgrade my wasp . Alulla is too pricey, so I’m lucking at normal slick mod3 canopy. What are your opinions? Thank you
Couldn't offer an honest fair comparison on those 2 having not spent enough time on the Slick 2023 I'm afraid. The Nova pro is very versatile, stiff and full of performance for a Non-alula wing, At first impression the Slick feels a little lighter but flexes more. Sorry cant help more. 🤙
@@poseidonwatersportsuk don’t worries mate! I will go for the nova, just waiting for the boom! Thanks anyway, and keep with good and honest reviews, cheers
