Moog Sound Studio semi-generative dawless jam. Mother 32, Subharmonicon, DFAM
*** Update ********************
This track is now available to purchase on my Bandcamp page. It is entitled “High Altitude Magpies”. The release also includes two other tracks from unpublished videos; one of which you can choose your own ending: with or without drums!
****************************************************
This is a little jam I came up with on the Moog Sound Studio semi modular crew - Mother 32, Subharmonicon and DFAM. See below for detailed patching ins/outs.
I wanted to keep it within the 3 devices and not use any external modules to supplement it.
The goal was to try and make something semi-generative that I could then interact with to mix it up a bit.
The Subharmonicon is the...

Ambient Drone Moods with Befaco Oneiroi, Arturia MicroFreak and MiniFreak and Moog Matriarch
Просмотров 13814 дней назад
Clive showed up for this one to give his usual thoughtful feedback on the process. He hasn't been over for a while so he has quite a bit to say. He seems to be upset with the fact that there is some other guy sat there staring at him. This piece features the Befaco Oneiroi module with 2x Arturia MicroFreaks and a MiniFreak. Moog Matriarch provides the bass and a Roland TR6S and QD Percussion mo...

This is a little jam with the Befaco Oneiroi and the Ovum & Wingie combo which goes into the input of the Oneiroi. There is also the Matriarch on bass and the MiniFreak with a twinkly pad thing. Percussion is from the QD eurorack module and Roland TR6S. The QD is being manipulated by cv fed from Lapsus Os which is mixing up the pattern being fed from the Dots trigger sequencer. Effects are from...
Freaks With Feedback - Arturia MiniFreak, MicroFreak, Befaco Oneiroi dawless jam
Просмотров 126Месяц назад
This is a dawless jam mostly featuring the "Super Freak" shelf - 2x Arturia MicroFreaks and a MiniFreak. They are providing the main synth parts - the two MicroFreaks are panned left and right and are going through a Donner Tape Delay pedal with separate delay times for the left and right and both with 100% feedback. The feedback on the pedal doesn't fully self oscillate so you can leave it at ...
Befaco Oneiroi Jam with Friends
Просмотров 73Месяц назад
This is a little jam following on from the previous video. It uses the same basic sequence on the 2 MicroFreaks but this time there is also a looped version of it running on the Blackbox sampler. The Ovum and Wingie go direct into the Oneiroi which is looped as well. There is a note sequence coming from the Oxi One that is triggering the Oneiroi’s sine and supersaw waves. The Matriarch has a si...
Befaco Oneiroi Demo no external effects
Просмотров 196Месяц назад
This is a little experiment with the Befaco Oneiroi to keep all the sound sources and effects to the Oneiroi itself. This meant not using my trusty Meris PolyMoon delay and Specular Reverb , which was difficult! Any reverb or delay you hear is coming directly from the Oneiroi. I have used the Ovum and Wingie drone synths (see previous videos exploring those) as a direct input to the Oneiroi, bu...

Another exploration with the excellent Befaco Oneiroi module. This also features the Super Freak collective - 2x MicroFreaks and a MiniFreak - as well as the Empress Zoia. Ovum and Wingie also get a look in. The first part you hear is from the Zoia running a patch that’s either one of the presets or I downloaded it, I can’t remember where it came from. It runs a little repeating note sequence. ...
Befaco Oneiroi First Patch* with Ornament and Crime

*First proper patch that works as expected. Technically, this would be the third or fourth patch. The Oneiroi was doing some very odd things straight out of the box and it took a bit of troubleshooting to get it back to how it should be. Firstly, I noticed the delay was not a distinct 2-tap echo as I was expecting (from other demos I had watched) but more a diffuse blurry echo. It was good, jus...
Arturia MinFreak ambient jam with added Cat (plus MicroFreak)
Просмотров 65Месяц назад
This was a fun little test of using the Behringer Cat as the input to the MiniFreak. The MiniFreak allows you to assign oscillator 1 as an audio input. The audio input is mono so is perfect for something like the Cat which is mono out anyway. The MiniFreak still treats the sound source as if it were an oscillator though, in the sense that you will only hear the audio in when a note is played on...
Ambient Washes with Arturia MiniFreak and 2x MicroFreaks!

Note that this video is not sponsored by Arturia, I just really like the MicroFreak and MiniFreak synths. This is a similar setup to the previous video but here is joined by the MiniFreak as well. It starts off with a simple pattern on the right (Stellar) MicroFreak which is then joined by the MiniFreak that plays a very slow sequence of notes. It uses a patch from the Stellar edition collectio...

First off, apologies for not posting a video in a while. I have been busy with other stuff. Boo. (Boo-urns). This video is a temporary departure from the normal style as the audio track was something I recorded the other day when noodling with the two MicroFreaks. I didn't film it though. This one incorporates my Moog synths with the Ovum drone synth and Wingie resonator. This is with the Moog Matriarch, Mother 32, Subharmonicon and DFAM. The featured extras are the Roland TR6S providing some CR78 based percussion and the Scaper VST by Sampleson. This is a cool virtual synth that creates slowly evolving ambient scapes based on an audio file you feed it. I fed it some MicroFreak ...
Dark Ambient Drones with Ovum, Wingie and Matriarch

This is a little noodle around an unsettling patch I created on the Matriarch. It involves a separate LFO - the Auza Wave Packets - which can send various signals across its output, modulating the Matriarch. In this case it is sending a gate out to clock the Mattiarch’s arpeggiator. The Matriarch built in delay is also being modulated. There is also a drone sample looping in the background and ...
Dawless Jam with Moog Matriarch, Ovum drone and Wingie resonator. Featuring QD percussion module

This one features the QD percussion module. It’s being triggered by the Dots Euclidean trigger sequencer. The triggers are being modulated by the CV output of the Behringer 960 sequencer. The QD is playing a combination of samples I have loaded into it. The kick drum has a fill (full pattern) that I am triggering from a foot switch via the Bastl Dup Dup module. Just stumbled on your channel looking for Ovum related stuff....i just got one. Quite a setup you have there, some great sounds and grooves. Im curious where you got the orange knobs for the Ovum?....i take it they slip over the original ones?

Hi there! As you can probably tell from my videos I love the Ovum! It’s been in pretty much every video since I got it. I have it permanently plumbed into the Wingie resonator - that is a great combo I highly recommend. The knobs do fit over the top of the originals and they have a little screw to secure them. I got them from thepihut.com. There’s loads of different colours. Not sure if it allows links in comments but if it does, this link will take you to the orange ones I bought: thepihut.com/products/orange-micro-potentiometer-knob-4-pack Thanks for commenting. They do make tuning easier but because of the wide pitch range of the Ovum it can still be a bit fiddly to get it to the pitch you want.

Hi! It was a while ago but as far as I can remember I had the Matriarch going into it via a stereo send from the mixer which is how I normally have my pedals set up. No other effects applied. Hi there. Thank you for the kind comments - much appreciated! Yes, the audio is recorded separately. What you’re hearing is the stereo out from my mixer recorded direct to a Tascam X8 portable recorder as a stereo mix. I then manually sync it back up with the video in Davinci Resolve which is what I use to edit the videos. I also record the individual multitrack outs at the same time to a computer so I have the option of remixing it later if I want - that’s how I make the tracks I release via Bandcamp etc.

@greenvelvet I use a digital mixer - an Allen & Heath SQ5 - this gives me 32 inputs and outputs over USB. I can route anything coming into the mixer to one or more of those USB ports. I then use a program called “RecAll” on my iMac which just acts as an audio recorder for anything coming in from the mixer’s USB ports. An SQ5 is ridiculously overpowered for what I use it for but I got it at a very good price a few years ago pre-covid before the prices went up a stupid amount. There’s other (cheaper) mixers that offer ‘multitrack out’ over USB. Hope that helps!

If IT's fun and helps us make music that we couldn't otherwise, i personally don't think IT's cheating 😄.... Your cheating means we cheat every time we use a sample too, instead of hunting down a real timpani or whatever 😁 All this electro music stuff is frickin' crazy, IT's a brave new lawless wild-west world out there 🤠🤖🌌

What is the model number of the Soundcraft mixer you have ? That’s my next step. I want to have my fx pedals attached and be able to send different fx level etc to each synth, is that what you do?

It’s a Soundcraft Spirit Notepad. Long since discontinued. I’ve had that for years. It’s been brought out of retirement here temporarily for this setup. There’s similar mixers that will do the same thing. Nearly all mixers have a mono aux send (unless you use 2) with a stereo return which is what is in use here. My main setup has a digital mixer that allows multiple stereo aux sends which is how everything else is wired up. The MOOG rig will be integrated into that over the next few weeks but I need to rearrange a bunch of stuff first.
