    These things are starting to get so expensive, there is irony in the fact some of them are close to the same price of installing a real stove or fireplace, but still look fake....not that it matters, every government either already have/or will ban real burning.

I was looking at the Opti-Myst pro 500 with the water vapor, fire effects and it supposedly has sound effects too that I can't find any evidence of, and it starts at $1500 and goes up from there depending on size.

    Which Revillusion model is the most realistic or favorite in your opinion? I would love a crackling fire sound but not if it sacrifices realism. That and a heater would just be a bonus.

    • @ccfireplace753
      @ccfireplace753 4 года назад

      All of the Revillusion models are the same flame effect. The only thing that changes is the size of the firebox and logs. So with respect to that, choose a size that you would be most likely to see in a normal house - like the 36". Also, the Herringbone brick is just a sticker and can look a little fake when you get up close. I had my technician remove the panels and custom paint them black... it looks great that way. Not sure why Dimplex doesn't offer with plain black!

    Can you remove the side brick panels?

    • @ccfireplace753
      @ccfireplace753 5 лет назад

      Yes and No - depends on which model you are asking about.. - MultiFire XD, Model PF3033HL - yes you can. They are easily removed. - Revillusion Firebox - No. However, they have a new model (the RBF24) which has a "Weathered Concrete" interior look that is very minimal. I believe Dimplex will be adding this Weathered Concrete option to their other models in the Revillusion line within the next few months. Check out the Dimplex website and search for the RBF24 with "WC" at the end of the model name. The WC is for Weathered Concrete. Hope that helps!

    • @ccfireplace753
      @ccfireplace753 5 лет назад

      No - unfortunately not. And I know the herringbone look is not for everyone. They are a printed flat photo glued to the inner walls of the firebox. I think you could probably take the unit apart and put black paper in front of them - but you wouldn't be able to remove them... and it would be difficult to paint them. Remember, there's a clear panel right in the middle of this unit - so you'd have to maneuver around that. Check out the new RBF24 - they just came out with it and it has a different interior look - they call it Weathered Concrete. I just got one for our showroom. I'll do a review on it in the next 2 weeks.

    • @ccfireplace753
      @ccfireplace753 4 года назад

      Update - you can remove the panels and paint them black. But it's quite difficult to do so! You practically have to disassemble the whole unit.

    Excellent review, thank you for this. I want to buy this unit but so far I heard that you cannot turn off that annoying lit brick wall that is pulsating and also I am not sure how to wire it in my newbuilt apartment without making a complete structural mess

    • @ccfireplace753
      @ccfireplace753 5 лет назад

      You have a few options... If you leave the front glass/ see thru mirror off, it would eliminate the backlight effect on the herringbone bricks. You can see this in my video. Or, you could disconnect the wire that creates that effect... its located on the ceiling. The Herringbone bricks are also located on the ceiling and it looks to me that they could be removed. Just a few screws. Remember, the mirror is showing you what's on the ceiling. The tv screen inside it is just creating the flame and sparks. As for your wiring dilemma - you can order a plug kit from Dimplex and plug it in to an outlet. Or have an electrician hard wire it to an outlet. For building it in, I would just construct a simple framed enclosure with 2x4's attached to the wall and then drywall it. The flame effect on this model is very impressive. You don't be disappointed. I've had it running 24-7 in my shop window since posting the video. Never turned it off! And since no heater, it's only about 3 cents an hour to run!

    • @ccfireplace753
      @ccfireplace753 5 лет назад

      Afterthought- the reason it doesn't come with a plug is because the actual box around it is unfinished and meant to be built in to your wall - to make it pretty. Since it's going to be built in to a wall, most building codes disallow a plug to be inside a wall... they want you to have access to a plug. But hard wired is allowed to be built in. To get around this, put a plug on the end and then create an access panel so you can get to the plug if need be. This would be allowable.

    How much square footage does it heat?

    • @pinkfreud62
      @pinkfreud62 5 лет назад

      5,000 BTU heats about 150 square feet. So unless you have an enclosed room of that size or a small living room, I wouldn't rely on the unit solely for heat alone. Probably only feels toasty when you're sitting within 10 ft of it.

    • @ccfireplace753
      @ccfireplace753 5 лет назад

      The manufacturer says 400 square feet. But they don't say how long it will take to heat an area that size. You have to consider that every room is different - a room with single pane windows, no insulation and a vaulted ceiling is going to be hard to heat. My small master bedroom though - about 200 square feet, with 8 ft ceilings and double paned windows only takes about an hour to heat up. :)

    is that plastic think annoying? Ive been contemplating buying this thing because I don't like the plastic showing. I was told you could take it out but it wont look as good.. I was also thinking of replacing it with a larger more rectangle piece of plastic. Do you think that would work?

    • @ccfireplace753
      @ccfireplace753 5 лет назад

      Hi Catherine - I have a few other videos of this log set shown in actual fireplaces... check those out. Here's one: ruclips.net/video/4zjGhCjjN2M/видео.html In my opinion, the plastic "mirage flame panel" really does disappear once it's inside a fireplace. It disappears best in a dark fireplace - so sometimes I recommend painting the inside of the fireplace black first. Another thing that makes it disappear - if your firebox height is around 20" - because then, the arched part of the plastic kind of tucks up inside the top interior of the firebox. Another idea - is installing a full Revillusion FIREBOX (as opposed to just the logs). So you would install it almost like a fireplace insert. (A box going into a box). In the firebox version, the clear plastic mirage flame panel is a rectangle that goes from the floor (between the front and back logs) to the top of the firebox. And you absolutely do NOT see that flame panel... like, AT ALL. If you went this route - keep in mind that the Revillusion fireboxes have a herringbone brick back and sides. So it would change the look of the interior of your firebox. But - it comes with interior lights and an option for flickering lights. And it looks very nice... Downside - a bit more expensive than just logs. And - your last question - could you replace the plastic flame panel on the logs... NOPE. It's not just normal plastic. It's plastic, with a texture and a metallic finish on just the textured area - in fact, I think the metallic part is in between the plastic. Without the texture and metallic finish on the plastic, the flame effect disappears. Hope this helps!

    • @ccfireplace753
      @ccfireplace753 5 лет назад

      The Dimplex Opti-V does NOT have a heater option - however, a workaround is to add a separate electric heater below it - something we have done on occasion. Dimplex did not design the Opti-V with a heater because it would have compromised the very clean edge design - it has an extremely linear viewing area (approximately 30" wide x 9" tall) and if it had a heater - it would have needed a place to push the heat out from - which would have changed that clean edge look.
