Добавлен 25 май 2018
Welcome to my channel! My name is Deb Crane and I live in a small town in Arkansas with my husband, Thomas. We try to maintain a level of self sufficiency on our little "homestead" in town. We have a big garden and I do alot of canning, baking with whole grains, sourdough, etc. as well as helping stretch the budget through thrifting, DIY natural cleaners/home maintenance, sewing, mending, etc. I love to share these old fashioned skills with others and love to learn new tips, tricks and hacks as well. Come and join my little community of old fashioned homemakers!

Try “pasta salad” with it! I love to add all the fixings and Italian dressing. So good!
Thank you 🎉
How do you thaw after freezing?
@@john.n.sarajoperry2525 You can thaw it in the fridge overnight or if you are in a hurry, place the ziploc in a some hot water for like 30 minutes until it's thawed. Be sure to drain it well before you use it!
Hi. I am going to try this now. BUT, it would be vert helpful if you would add "approximate times" for rising, etc. I am new to this and really need the extra info. THANKS Also.....can't you print out the recipe....I had to watch it x3 in order to be able to write everything down. THANKS AGAIN
I cant wait to make this
May The Lord uphold you and I pray protect you and your family. Keep looking to The Lord Jesus, no matter the circumstances❤
Tq very much for sharing. I love your recipe🎉🎉🎉
I love the video and I will follow, but I was looking for the ingredients posted. I wrote them down but just wondering where they are
How ripe is your squash. ? I have mine storing in my house. I had to pull them a bit early, because of our weather.
@@deborahtofflemire7727 If I remember correctly, these were fully ripe. If yours are slightly under ripe, you can still use this method, though the strands may be a little harder to separate.
If you’re using honey instead of sugar do you still use a quarter cup?
Hi, love your recipe. Can you tell me what brand of flour did you use?
Nice and healthy for your hubby! Glad your able to do this, may your sensitivity to certain foods get better over time. Sometimes, you just have to take a break from certain things, especially when you're expecting.
No apology needed Deb! Having a new life inside you and growing, Wonderful Blessing! Will pray for your good health, the baby's and for all your family❤ (Don't worry about us)
Congratulations Deb and your Husband! I pray your pregnancy will go very well. May The Lord richly bless all your family!
Going to try this today! Does the cream separate? Might use skim milk since I have so much!
Yes, the cream does separate but I never minded that. You could definitely use skim milk!
Looks good
How long do these last in the fridge? :) Looks so good definitely will be making it soon!!!
We eat it pretty fast so I honestly don't know. I would think at least a week since it keeps almost a week on the countertop unless it's really hot and humid.
That is awesome!! Congratulations! Good to have you back and feeling better!
Thank you!
My Mom would always thump the bread to make sure it was done! ☺️ I miss her. She always used aluminum pans as that is how her mother did it! I need to try this. Not sure which type of pan I will use. Thanks Deb! From another Debbie❤️
You're welcome, Debbie!
Dear Deb: Since this video is the last one posted as " Daily Life with Deb", I have been praying for you and your family. May The Lord bless all of you and keep you close in His care.
Thank you so much for your prayers and concern! I very much appreciate them. Everything is good with us. We've had some major life changes that consume more of my time so the channel got put on the back burner. I am planning to post an update video soon!
So very relieved to know your family is well. May our Lord look with favor upon your family as you seek to honor Him. "Trust in The Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. Delight yourself in The Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart."( Psalm 37:3,4) His tender mercies upon your family, I pray.
@@grandmay.2132 Thank you!
Great video. I will try it.
Just stopping by to show your channel some love. I love this idea for crackers. How long do they stay fresh?
I didn't know how long should it stay sitting before it's ready for the baking pan
Can one use this crust to make fried pies? Of course, fried pies are cooked in grease and not baked like pies.
I've never made fried pies but I wouldn't hesitate to try!
Hi Deb, thanks - great video, nice and simple; quick query - what is the effect of removing, or reducing the sugar (say by half or more) do you know? Will it interfere with the yeast action? Thanks again!
Reducing it by half shouldn't affect the yeast action but it will affect the flavor, giving you a less flavorful loaf. It still shouldn't be bland though. Give it a try! Just make sure you use at least a Tablespoon to give the yeast a boost.
Totally gross-looking. What are you supposed to do with that mess ? 😮
Thank you for the recipe..
Thank you for sharing this! 😀
This is good because most crackers in the store are GMO. What is the shelf life?
I'm honestly not sure on the shelf life because we usually eat them within a day or two of the day I make them. I may have to hide a few to find out!
PERFECT RECIPE! Followed Deb step by step. My crust was beautiful, flaky, tender, and melted in your mouth. I got so many compliments and it's EASY!!!!!
I'm so glad it worked well for you!
I love cleaning videos. ❤
Very cute❤
I believe this is my favorite video of yours. Reasons why 1. The video size stays the same for the actual video 2. The audio is good 3. You seem very confident 4.the set up looks nice, good camera angles. 5. The video seems well planned out. I can't wait to see you improve over time! I'm so Happy for you.
Thanks, Cierra!
I love that your sister made it in the video. ❤ I just wanted To let you know that if needed to, you could blurr peoples faces so that it protects their privacy a little more. If anyone is uncomfortable being on camera. ❤ but im really glad she was okay with it. ❤
Yes, I know there is a blurring feature on some editing apps. I always ask people if they mind before I record anyway. My sisters don't mind.
What happened to your hand? 😂 I asked that just as you started to explain.. ❤ praying it gets better. ❤

Thank you!! I really admire your lifestyle!!
Thank you! I think it's important to romanticize the simple things in life. It breeds contentment rather than discontent.
I love home made yogurt, and this is so easy to do!!
It's IS sooo easy! I have a jar for breakfast each morning and there is virtually no daily prep!
Thank you for showing the stage where the dough is pulling away from the bowl. I think I have been leaving my dough in the mixer too long because I thought the pulling away stage meant it had to be 95% pulled away from the entire bowl. Most people don’t show that step, so thank you.
Beautiful crusty bread! Thanks for sharing your day!
Thank you for watching!
Hi Deb!! I just found your channel! I love sourdough baking!!!!! ❤
Me too! I need to get better at it though. Success is a journey, not a destination! 😊
Thank you for making this video! So helpful. I’m going to give it a try, wish me luck. 🤞
You're very welcome! I hope it goes well for you. Keep me posted!

Wow! Thank you so much!
recipes are always good. Canning and preserving are useful as well.

You're very welcome!
Yum! I enjoyed watching your process. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you, and you're welcome! 😊
I've also found generic pumpkin brands to have a little more moisture than the brand name one. But our family recipe has half the milk that yours does, to one 15 oz can of pumpkin. I've seen another person recommend butternut squash. I'll have to try that.
That must be the problem. It was a generic brand. I used to use fresh milk from our cows and squash or pumpkin that I baked myself. My pies were much better then!
If you have only one camera, set it so it's zoomed in on the bowl and countertop. There's no need to see your entire body bc then we're way too far away to see what you're doing. I would also get all your supplies together beforehand, or else edit those parts out. What were you saying at the beginning about bugs? Gross, and not something you want to hear when you're about to cook something. It would have been nice to hear about what makes this crust "no fail". Handle-ability? Flakiness? Taste? What makes it better than a non-oil crust? Also, in every cooking video, people want to see the finished product. We saw the pie when it came out of the oven, and it looked nice, but it would have been nice to see it get cut and tasted. Maybe a clip from a former apple pie video could have been inserted at the end for thst purpose. Just some suggestions to hopefully help you out getting started.
Thank you for your feedback. That was one of my first videos, I am trying to make them better as I learn better what to do and get more equipment. I have gotten a tripod since then so that should help alot. The pie was for the county fair so I couldn't cut it and I didn't have any previous video to show. The crust is no fail mostly because it can take alot of handling, adding extra water or flour, etc. without getting tough. Basically, it always works. Bugs? I don't remember saying anything about them so I will have to go back and watch it. My apologies if I have grossed anyone out. I've always been a country girl so don't give bugs a thought.
HI....what great looking bread, Deb! May I ask what size your glass breadpans are?...and do you prefer glass to metal? Thank you for your kind reply! 🌻🌻
Hello and thank you! My bread pans are Pyrex brand an the dimensions are 8.5 x 4.5. I have pretty much always used glass because it's what my mom had and I took half of her loaf pans when I got married. 😄 So I don't have a ton of experience with different materials in bread pans. I do want to get a Pullman loaf pan sometime though!
Hi, Deb---thank you very much for your kind reply; it is truly appreciated!@@DailyLifewithDeb
