O Piquet falou que não fazia sentido voltar para trás naquela 'chicana' que Prost e Senna bateram no ano anterior, tendo sido tirado o titulo do Senna por seguir contornando as barreiras. Piquet sugeriu que se houvesse problema ali, o certo seria seguir contornando as barreiras e seguindo em frente, pois voltar para trás e fazer o traçado da curva era mais perigoso! Lol, Piquet never hated Senna, they just didn't get along. They weren't friends, but they respected eachother when racing. When Senna died, Piquet said that "for a guy that loved to push himself to the limits, someone who wanted to break all records, including Fangio's, it was very much possible, all he had to do was stay with the team and do his job. It's a very unfortunate accident, that ended up happening in the same day (May 1st) that I crashed into the same corner, 7 years ago (1987). I happened to have a bit more luck than him.". One thing that I learned about, years later, is how the media, especially the Brazilian media, liked to capitalize on the rift between Senna and Piquet. Piquet was more introverted and didn't like to be interviewed that much (especially Brazilian journalists, many of whom he immediately turned off when a dumb question was asked, but not without a heavy rebuttal), probably due to an alleged trauma that he had with Chico Serra during their F3 days. Senna had all the media attention around him, and when Senna joked that he "stepped aside so Nelson could appear more in the spotlights", referencing his 3rd championship in 1987, a journalist asked Piquet how he felt about such a thing. An angry Piquet simply responded: "Why don't you go ask Senna if he likes women or not?" (referencing paddock rumours (some even believing that it was started by Prost, but that's unconfirmed) that Senna could be a homosexual, because he was seen around a lot with a close friend of his). Immediately, the media started to say "Piquet said that Senna is gay!", and word of mouth reached Senna, who ended up trying to sue Piquet for such a thing, even though he didn't specifically say that Senna was gay, he simply implied the possibility if Senna liked women or not. Personally, I don't think that Piquet expected the massive shitstorm.
