    Our Mom made these for every holiday. We’d fight over them, they’re so good. Lovingly of course. She would form three little balls & place them in a cupcake pan. This made each one brown evenly & break apart so nicely for buttering. Mmmm….. Thanks for sharing this. Our Mom passed this August & we can’t find her old 1950’s Betty Crocker cookbook. God bless you for sharing our Mom’s roll recipe!!! ❤

    Some suggestions. Mix the sausage, rotel, cheese together and then add the bisquick. Then refrigerate the dough until throughly rechilled. I would go with 1/2 the size u used, bc they rise. These are meant to be served hot, and so are usually cooked in batches or served on hot plates. You'll find they taste better warm.

    I have been making bread for over 50 years and my mom made these. THank you for posting the original recipe because I had lost my mom's last year. She passed away 15 years ago. Anyway. I would suggest using 100% Unbleached AP flour instead of adding bread flour as you show in your video. The original recipe did not have Bread Flour, it was not common back then. I would suggest you melt the shortening and let it cool. I would suggest you use a high quality instant yeast called SAF-INSTANT YEAST RED LABEL as well. Fleishman's is not as reliable. Use filtered water as well. The dough is suppose to be light and fluffy, but enough stability to hold up to making rolls with it. They are actually supposed to be like the Hawaiian Rolls you see in the grocery store. Just some suggestions from a long time baker. I make my own bread and pizza dough as well.

  • @LindaNedilsky
    @LindaNedilsky Месяц назад

    I am making these for Thanksgiving. I will update how they came out. But I am glad I found the recipe via your video, because I had lost mine.

  • @LindaNedilsky

    I have a question. My mom made these when I was growing up in the 50s and 60s. We did not have bread flour and non of my cookbooks from that time had bread flour, so is that the original recipe? And, also why not melt the shorting and then let it cook instead of adding hard shortening to liquid. Shortening now is vegetable shortening, not animal fat shortening, it would not have the same reaction. If I recall, my mother melted the fat before adding it. I think you can keep this in your refrigerator for 3 days and just pull out what you want. That's how my mom was able to make fresh rolls at least 3 nights a week without making the dough every night. Just a thought.

    Instead of running it more than once you can let it boil and mash and then run it through the cheese cloth. You will have a more concentrated juice, and when you can it you add one jar of water to one jar of juice. If it is too concentrated you can add more water. I also don’t add sugar until I make it up. (Just a personal preference.) Another good investment is a steam juicer. I can fit 10-12 bags in mine, and in about 45 mins I have 5-6 quarts of concentrate to can. You can put apples in with the cranberries and make cran - apple as well. You can do other fruits and vegetables in a steam juicer as well. It’s not limited to cranberries. You can also make berried cranberry sauce or jellied sauce from the pulp. 😊

    • @suburbansemihomestead
      @suburbansemihomestead Месяц назад

      This is all brilliant. Thanks for the advice! I've been meaning to get a steam juicer because I have a couple grape vines that are maturing enough to produce grapes. If I got a steamer, it would make it a lot easier to process grape juice. Thanks for watching and all the advice! ❤️
