For someone who is reputed to have hated everything about the last walz, Levon sure seemed to be enjoying himself!
Garth kills it on sax. Rick and Levon are in superb voice. This version beats the studio version eight ways to Timbuktu.
what a night. such a night
With the tuba bass and the ragtime piano, the drummers instinctively set up a New Orleans second line groove with a pinch of Cajun fiddle seasoning…
Awesome
Wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to much Talent on that stage, Rick and Levon singing together always makes me cry, There will NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Be music like this again😭😭😭
For me, The Band died in 1986 when keyboardist-singer Richard Manuel killed himself via suicide inside a bathroom in his hotel.
Just phenomenal ! What an absolutely fantastic performance. Great to see Richard on drums and Rick on fiddle too. I think Garth nails that piano though!
More tuba!
Such a great version of a great tune. Play on Robbie. R.I.P.
Perfect
these vids look as if the camera crew director evicted Richard Manuel from The Band the eviction is only visual, so thanks for making these treats available
somebody got it right scheduling these guys with the Grateful Dead and Allman Brothers at Watkins Glen the 3 bands have so much more in common @ music+spirit than shows at first glance first and foremost how thoroughly integrated the players' musical interactions are
The band is great, everyone could sing and play multiple instruments you don't see that often 😉
It doesn't get any better than that,
Wonderful
What could be more fun than watching Rick D play the base?...................Watching him saw away on the fiddle.
Honey be ready ' cause I wanna be there when The Band starts playing...
What a great version, it's unfortunate they left this and WS Walcott Show and Rag Mama Rag out of the Last Waltz, great versions on the cocaine train.
That's what a Band sound like on their A game. Not a group, but a Band! The Band! No one comes close! Not even to this day in 2022! Truly remarkable.
A true Band in every sense of the word! When was the last time a group had three world class singers, one of the finest songsmiths of his generation, and certainly the most astonishing musician of the Rock era? Yeah, I thought so! A Band of sidemen,A Band of journeymen, and a Band who even in twenty twenty two, have to be surpassed in honest to god, brilliant musicality. I personally shall never see or hear any group come close to their extraordinary gifts or talents.
If you like The Band, you should check out Ursa and the Major Key. They have a song called Only The Sky Is Blue that sounds pretty similar to The Band, and their whole album is influenced by The Band, Floyd, Grateful Dead, etc.
Wow! Should have been in the movie!
Great find
That was awesome!
Love the way Rick taps his bow on Garth's piano - anticipating his play! xoxo
Rag mama rag Cowtown on Thursday nights how many likes can I get go
"you know, life indeed.....is a Carnival!!"
Doing the dishes one more dull and dreary morning after breakfast , and after years this song came into my mind listens to both this and a recording session both most enjoyable , What incredible times my generation lived in !!🙌❤️ The Band 🌹🙏
Nahhh
Quite a bit slower than the album version. Maybe they didn't practice this one as much as the others.
yeah, prefer the stripped down version of this without the wall of horns and can also do without the flying wisps of hair
My favorite version.
I love this 💘
swinging the band!
Not enough artists experiment with brass in nowadays..what a pity.
Definitely. In the 70's a lot of Classic Rock artists did (Bob Seger, Alice Cooper, Aerosmith, etc). Not much now.
When your arms are empty, got nowhere to go Come on out and catch this show There'll be saints and sinners, you'll see losers and winners All kinds of people you might want to know Once you get it, you can't forget it W.S. Walcott Medicine Show You know he always holds it in a tent And if you're looking for the real thing He can show you where it went There's a young faith healer he's a woman stealer He will cure by his command When the music's hot and you might have to stand To hear the Klondike Klu Klux steamboat band Don't you sweat it You can't forget it W.S. Walcott Medicine Show I'd rather die happy than not die at all For a man is a fool who will not heed the call Gonna see *Miss Brer Foxhole with bright diamonds in her teeth She is pure gold down underneath She's a rock and roll singer and a true dead ringer Boy, somethin' like you ain't never seen Once you get it You can't forget it W.S. Walcott Medicine Show W.S. Walcott Medicine Show W.S. Walcott Medicine Show W.S. Walcott Medicine Show
Garth Hudson, what a man!
Who played bass while Rick played fiddle?
The tuba player
Once you get it you can’t quit it
You can actually hear Robbie clearly in the choruses! Great performance of a great song!
Who’s the 3 fools who gave this a thumbs down?
Beautiful Rick Danko
the only film where I see Danko on fiddle beside the elusive SNL video w/ Gary Busey.
I ended up just buying the whole episode to get that segment.
Pretty rare indeed.
The SNL video is pretty wild
@@justfelix6171 It's insane, for sure. My favorite part is, no matter how big a mess Busey makes of the whole thing, Rick looks soooooooo serious with that fiddle. It's one of the best SNL musical "performances" ever--a rocking disaster from start to finish.
Levon and Richard on drums here 🤙
Too bad the cameras didn't pick this up. Would have been excellent addition to the movie.
Scorsese missed so much, focussing on Robbie's neck muscles!
@@34hedgehog they also wanted to get as much "star power" as they could into the movie. So while the Band played 16 of their own songs that night, only a few made it into the movie.
Rick and Levon are fantastic! Killing it! And Garth is awesome!
A perfect performance!! Unlike Trump's Perfect phone call. Danko's backing vocals are killer!! "A man is a fool that does not heed the call!"
Garth!
Just came across this - it's made my day.
Carole & Tuesday - ep. 6
TOP horns?
The horns sound amazing
FLAT WORLD !
I became more interested in the Band when they added the horns. (Yes I had the albums) Those arrangements are spectacular. Can they be purchased ? They would be a wonderful learning vehicle on how to make the horns a dynamic presence to add to the song and not just a filler.
