Why did I buy a Himalayan instead of the CF Moto?

Nothing wrong with CF moto at all, I’ve owned both the RE meteor 650 and the cf moto clx 700. Both excellent bike, and great build quality. The main thing that would sway me to Hime over the MT is the service intervals as well as the MT has very short gearing and is almost red lining at freeway speeds. In terms of engine simplicity, the Himalayan edges the 450 MT. It’s more likely the Himalayan won’t have many mechanical issues due to the simplicity said engine. The two statements I have an issue with is about the weight and power delivery of the 450 MT. Objectively speaking the 450 is much lighter than the Himalayan, and it’s much more punchy and linear. Now, these can be facts that the OP doesn’t like, and that’s perfectly fine. Anyone can like and dislike whatever they want. But it doesn’t change that are objectively a positive for the 450, if you look at it in a spreadsheet. The Himalayan is a lovely little bike, though. I had a go at it, but it’s not my cap of tea. Objectively the CFMoto does feel lighter due to its somewhat lower CoG but in terms of actual weight it’s 1kg lighter according to everything I can find. I have to say it does feel lighter to sit on and at low speed. In terms of the power delivery for reasons of brevity and watchablility, I boiled down its power delivery to being a bit flat, and while there’s a bit more to it than that, I’ll stand behind my statement the RE delivers its power in a more interesting way which is one of the main reasons I ended up buying it. Having said all that, one persons wagyu is another’s McDonalds so ride your own race on bike that gives you the fizz.

@@peterlennan India doesn't invade other countries, or have asperations to undermine democratic countries. Did you know about Chinese covert surveillance with electronics and cell technology embedded in vehicles. This shares driver behavior and location with China. These systems are not disclosed to the owners or the importing agency of the destination. It is so concerning to national security that the USA and others are considering banning certain Chinese manufacturers, CFMoto is one of those spyware companies. India doeas not behave in such skulduggery. BTW, I spent time Northern China and EasternTibet in 2013. The average person is afraid to speak against tnier government policies. We where warned when in China to be careful who we spoke to (spies, or get someonein trouble) and had an official Chinese government escort for much of the time. China will punish Tibetans for displaying photos of the Dalai Lama. The religious violence you point to in India is a tiny fraction of what China has done by invading and occupying Tibet, and by committing genocide against the Muslim etnic Ulgar population. Beware, China wishes to stamp out ALL forms of religion. Religion is illegal in China and now in Tibet also. PS, I deeply love the Tibetan and Chinese people, who are horribly suppressed by the Chinese totalitarian government.

@@nigelfisher6896 I bought mine from Brett up at Bucks Auto and Cycle in Toowoomba. An old school independent shop with a great selection of interesting used bikes to look at. Discount wise the best I could do was 12 months rego instead of 6. I prefer to deal with smaller businesses and they are the only dealer in the greater area that isn’t owned by a conglomerate. Give him a call and mention my name and tell him you want the extra rego deal!
