Hi, your idea is great! I sure will use it! And then I share this with you: I bought some green mosquito window net.. To Put on top of the tank full of fish.. To just avoid my new fish to jump… They had just arrived and supose to be 250 mediun charales.. I went to the bathroom.. quick! 😂 And when i came.. half the population was dead! And the rest where suffering and desesperate..!!😱 🌟🙏🏼Thank God I had a 40lt. Tank ready for any chances.. 🌟And a galon jar! So I took the dead away with the jar in less than a minute and the rest with a net to the tank! That happen because I didn’t super wash the mosquito net.. apperently comes with a substance that makes it easy to hold and work for a mosquito trap.. and poisoned half of the population!!! So I tell you and everyone who read this to be carefull.! Happily, all the rest survive!😊

Moral of the story, these fish are very hard to find in a healthy stae so quarantien any fish you buy and secondly try and find sources of healthy fish. Look at the fish in the store very carefully, any dead fish, skinny fish, sick fish don't buy any, don't pick out the healthy ones it doesn't work. It also makes sense to try and get the fish on arrival at the store so ask when any are coming in. Many stores do not quarantien their stock before selling on their problems. Fresh arrivals are least likely to be ill (not a guarantie as they may be sick already) as overcrwoding in shops and mostly no feeding leads to weakend sick fish. Alternatively try and buy from a fish auction at your local fish club because these people look after their fish. Even feeder fish need to be in tip top condition or they will kill the fish they're feeding, so any shop with a good reputation selling fish that need feeder fish should sell healthy feeders or no one will buy them. Too often feeder fish from your average store are in a terrible condition as Sonny discovered, getting them healthy is not worth your time or resources. Dump them disinfect your tank try again with healthier fish.

I used to have two tanks, one with WCM minnows, and one with guppies. Both had 10 fish. Based on the water tests, the WCM minnows only produced about 1/4 as much waste as the guppies. For whatever reason, they are very clean and don't have a large bio-load.

I thought of these as bait only until I put a couple in my water plants to eat mosquito larvae. I never fed them, figured they'd die after warm weather ended. The planter froze that winter, but to my surprise the fish survived! So I decided to give them a bigger tub with hornwort and duckweed, and more minnow friends. It's 3+ years now and all 6 fish are alive despite the water freezing over with ice twice now. Hardy little guys for sure.

After keeping fish over 60 years, I’ve just decided to try and breed these minnows. I recently added a a Nerodia (native water snake) to my reptile collection. It readily swims below surface to take the minnows as its primary source of food. I’ve added 6 minnows to a 125 gal tank that will eventually be a native biotope tank (Tennessee and Georgia). Your video is an excellent resource and saves me mistakes and research you’ve already done. Exciting to think about you being able to produce a darker orange variant! Shared and subscribed! Thanks 🙏🏼 for the information.

I buy them from the local pet store & put them in my 200 gal horse water trough to control the mosquito larva. They do a great job! I usually release them in our creek at the end of the summer to keep them from freezing in the water trough. This year I decided to try to keep them and set up a fish tank in the house. Now, they're the "cat TV". 😊💜🐟🐴🐈

I have golden wonder killies, and they are beautiful fish. Though, they beat the tar out of each other if given the chance and yes, jump out of the tank. They are super easy to spawn, mine are now 4th generation. I just transfer floating plants between tanks and their eggs hatch, it’s always by accident

In my experience with skinny disease I've found the following to be dramatically helpful. I don't know what part of this adopted procedure does the trick but.. Identify illness (nearly always present what appears to be collapsed or sunk in throat. Immediately isolate to prevent spread but to also stop any competition for food. Increase oxygenation. Feed seed shrimp without restriction for about 2 days, this is high protein and acts as a dieretic helping cleanse the bowel. Then change to high fat high protein flake and feed it to its fill about 5 times a day till it's back to healthy weight. I've never had it reoccur after this. I usually do this for 2 to 3 weeks before putting it back with others, then I watch closely to make sure it isn't underfeeding. It seems they get too weak to compete, isolate themselves and starve out while picking what is essentially dust off the floor of your tank. Hope this helps someone as it has saved my ptsmrt fish numerous times.
