Bill Leverton
Добавлен 30 авг 2008
I have been a videographer all my adult life, primarily in TV News. Early on, at the TV station in Phoenix, Az, where I spent all of my career, I developed a series called ON THE ARIZONA ROAD WITH BILL LEVERTON. They were short, feature stories I shot around the state about people and places. The series lasted for more than 20 years. I am retired now and am posting for a 2nd viewing those stories I think were some of my best. Please keep watching, the stories go up on an irregular basis.
STORY WITH ROY ROGERS
If I wasn't Roy Rogers riding around on a stick horse when I was a kid, I was his best sidekick and always has his back!

INTERVIEW WITH GEORGE BURNS

This wasn't one of my finest hours as an interviewer! I was overwhelmed by the magnitude of George Burns as a star and pretty badly intimidated.
THANKSGIVING AT PIONEER LIVING HISTORY MUSEUM
Просмотров 1772 года назад
This was a video Thanksgiving video I did many years ago, probably in the early 1990''s. Probably makes as much sense today as it did back then. I don't even know if Pioneer Museum is still there north of Phoenix. I hope it is.
LAKE POWELL TRASH TRACKERS OCT 1990

Why would tens of thousands of people throw trash on the shores and in the waters of Lake Powell?
LIGHT OF THE LONGEST DAY

Apparently ancient cultures all over the world figured out the summer and winter solstices, but it just kind of makes you wonder how they did it.

BERTS COUNTRY DANCING 1989

I was turned on to this place by one of the band members I'd met doing another story somewhere. The drinks were cheap, the beat was danceable, the folks just plain "ol folks and I hope this place is still around in some form or the other.

You know, I watched the ground for months after I did this story and only came up with 14-cents.
Trains going by. I loved watching them...and liked the people who ran them.

I go accused from time to time of taking advantage of my job as a newsman and sneaking on more trains than the average guy could. Probably so. And I had my favorite RR people, too.
THINGS THAT GO WRONG DURING LIVE SHOTS

Most of the time there's some sort of gremlin that snuck into the equipment or into the brain of whoever's running the equipment and things just start conspiring to mess things up.
YES, THERE WAS A TOUR TRAIN IN YUMA.

With an old-timey railroad car and a little imagination, you've got yourself a tour train. Didn't go very far and not very fast, but it was fun.

DON LAUGHLIN STORY 1995

Don Laughlin came to a run-down, ramshackle old motel in the desert across the Colorado River from Bullhead City, Az, bought the place, and the rest was an almost unbelievable tale of what one man built in the sesert.
We play both kinds of music... Country and Western... The good ole boys blue brothers band... Awesome 👍😎
It’s too bad someone didn’t keep it going. Awesome history!
Looks like a great country western place to go dancing!
I like to eat rice and popsicles in Laughlin. But then my eyes hurt. I don’t know why.
Pure time travel... thanks for posting
Rotate the rooms! So that's why tyre houses never caught on.
We appreciate the people at Riverside, and it is very well-managed despite it's huge size.
Bert's was last open in 2006. I live across the street in one of the old gas stations. The old 76 station is now open, directly across from Bert's, on Saturday 🙂
I watched your tour of history last week that included the now vacant Berts Country Dancing building. Your little history tour of the area was very informative....Thanks!
Watch your video that's what got me two burts country dancing. I would love to buy that property and turn it back into what it was is it for sale
Same. Great content and great times I bet.

I lived there until 1986, My dad had a bar and grill on the corner there called the Melody Lounge. Where I first got my start playing on a stage. Too bad it is torn down now and a parking lot. I would have loved to have been able to go back and stand on that stage again.
RIP Bill. Thanks for all the OTAR segments when I was a kid.
Randomly found this off roading in a Bronco.
It is and what’s so cool about it?
I remember Chuck. He is a great person in general and his job he loved. Had several conversations with him over the years. He gave me a ticket in 1980, coming home out of Phoenix, the next day he bought me a beer in Rock Springs bar and said he was doing his job and didn't want any hard feelings! Never had any hard feelings, he caught me.
I drove by today, and I don't see any sign of life. Sad...
Don Laughlin IS Laughlin. RIP Mr Laughlin, always stayed at the Riverside. They have everything you need at one location.
My dad played banjo with Lyman in the late 70s and early 80s
RIP my friend. I pray the new generation will continue the legacy.
Rest in peace Don
Rest in peace Don, you absolute legend.
Rip 🪦 don Laughlin 😢
Good Job Dad!
You know this is old when the Aquarius was still "Flamingo Hilton"
We used to boat camp at Lake Mojave during my youth. I recall when Don's "casino" was a bunch of trailers connected together. They offered "corn and cluck for under a buck" which was a chicken dinner for 99 cents. It was the only casino in Laughlin at the time and the chicken dinner drew in gamblers that were visiting the lake. That grew and Don built the Riverside later. Even after that first high rise casino, he built another one next to it. Don separated from his wife but never divorced her because he was Catholic. He also loved his polyester pants. I knew a person that used to take up his pants for him (a seamstress that lived in Bullhead City). My father once dated that lady when he later moved to Bullhead City. When my father passed away, all of my friends that used to boat camp with my parents took his ashes up the lake in two pontoon boats rented at Katherine Landing and put his ashes in his and his father's favorite fishing cove. After that, we all went to Laughlin for a great dinner with all of my (and his) friends. Fond memories. The casino plays first run movies in its own theater and one can order a hot dog and a beer to accompany them to the movie theater. My Dad loved to do that. Don is a self-made man. I have a lot of respect for him.
Yooooo this needs a Broadway musical
Don Laughlin my dad frequently lived up there practically! His name was Robert Young Junior. He was well-known in Vegas. For staying in the casino playing cards! My dad can take $10 and stay for days non-stop gambling! He never knew when to quit and he would get comped rooms and dinners. I thought I lived in a casino ! when I was young! He met you once or twice. I'm not really sure how many times he met you. But I love your Resort and I love your casinos. Thank you for the beautiful time that I had when I was young! I would sneak and Gamble. But seriously I really love how beautiful your casinos are. And I love the river and to be able to go from Casino 2 Casino on the river. My dad was a card shark! He'd win big! But never knew when to quit. I met you once going to the dining room with my dad and boyfriend when I was young! I just want to say thank you for the memories I had when I was young. Without your beautiful Casino I would never have those memories I enjoyed staying there! Laughlin is a beautiful place to visit.
My dad knew Dunlap went very well. my dad was throwing up in the river! Don Laughlin came down in his helicopter. My dad's gone now. I grew up in the casino!
That was nice of your dad to feed the hungry Carp like that!
That dude looks straight Mafia
I guess i will always remember him as Chester Goode, definitely one of the greatest actors of my time.

Love my neighbor Chuck he is a wonderful man. Wish they could all fill comfortable enough today to love their job like he did
Well done Paul.
