Beginner Claw hammer Banjo Lesson
Просмотров 2462 месяца назад
Many folks have told me they wanted to learn clawhammer banjo. For some ridiculous reason a lot of music stores refuse to teach clawhammer. I’ve gotten dozens of people started playing clawhammer, and it all begins with the right hand. (Or strumming hand) My father taught me to play banjo the very same way as shown to him by Pete Seeger himself. I believe that if you study this short video and ...

I bring up the small details that often get forgotten or over looked. I answer the most common zipper repair questions as well as give upd...
Oh man, the skill! The tastefullness! Never before have I seen a more profound and scientifically perfect video in my life!
Good video Chris, I remember the days when I would take my boots to a local cobbler and get new soles put on or have repairs done. Now it's hard to find a cobbler
Preach! Absurdly cheap low cost consumer goods lock people into cycles of constant consumption and endless waste. Thank you again for the work you do making our tiny hats for birds and cats! The irony that the hats we put on the birds are 10x the quality of the birds themselves doesn't escape me. Keep up the good work!
Cheers Chris! We appreciate you very much. Best in the biz. :)
This comes with no shock, but I fully agree with you, man. I would be more than happy to pay triple what im paying now for a good pair of jeans that lasted longer than three months and was make in the US.
Hey Chris, it's Michael... Would you please consider doing a R.R. cap for my Angel Christmas Tree Topper? I'm sure she'd really appreciate it. Thank you in advance.
1. The tiny hats are addorable and I can't stop picturing a big hat with a bunch of the little hats waddling behind it, why did I decide the hats where ducks? Don't know, but that's what happened. 2. I totaly get wanting something that lasts forever, whenever people ask me why I got a pair of PNW boots I always just say that I wanted a pair of boots I would be so happy with that I would never have to wory about getting any other pair (Obviously I still end up ogling other pairs but I can say I havent felt the need to find something better and that is what I want) that is also why I've been looking into your hats so much, cause to be honest I am the kind of person who would only ever need 1 hat to wear out and about and maybe a hat I can wear while dressed up. 2.5? That got me thinking about the hat's I currently own and realizing it's a kinda spurratic colection, I got a cheap cowboy hat, a nice cowboy hat that is sadly too small now, a medieval hood (which oddly enough is far and away my most worn hat... like worn nearly every day from about October into April) and a hard hat that used to be my great grandpa's, the only baseball cap style hat I own was transformed into a fox head for halloween years ago, which is weird to think about.
Great video man very relaxing to watch
A good tip I got from a reenactor to fix cracked vibram soles is to use black JB weld.
I hear McRae makes a really good version of the Vietnam Era jungle boots with the panama outsole. Wish those were in this video and how they stack up.
As somone who's never so much as touched a banjo, that was pretty cool, also made me re-realized that even though they are both string instruments the techniques between the viola which I play and plucked instruments are vastly diffrent.
Thought this was Varg for a second
Are you doing the Arcadia / Upperco show again this year?
Rothco for the win.
12:18 💪👍🙂
What do you think of the Jungle Boot's hot weather tan cousin?
I have the original vibrant Jungle boot worn everyday for 2 years no issues with the soles but the leather does crack due to being an older chrome tanned leather.
where did you got these boots? NOS condition?
I have a pair of 1960's Vietnam sole boots issued to me in the 70's, which I still wear in the jungle here in SE Asia. They have not cracked or come unstiched. Original good quality!
I have heard similar experiences from Vets. I think the guys who got them back in the 60s and 70s and wore them regularly for decades had better luck with the rubber not cracking. I think the use kept them pliable. For us folks who buy new old stock 60s vintage originals, I think the rubber got hard from sitting on a shelf for 50 years not getting bent daily.
@@larosehatcompany2433 If it helps, the brand is Genesco and CIC is stamped in an oval on the sole. I later got issued the speed-lace black "hot weather boot" with the Panama tread which also has the steel plate. They are also doing well apart from repairs to the stiches. The main thing I like are the direct molded soles. Modern boots have glued on soles which fall off after few months of the SE Asian heat!
a brand called maharishi made a low top version of the jungle boots, and they have a vibram sole. Its definitely not a replica but it would be cool to throw it out there
Love it! I had my last pair (84 dated) issued to me in Panama in 87 and i used them as my barracks/post boots so they at first never saw the field. Your right us army issues were meant to last one year before replacing them. I also snagged a brand new set in a size 10R for a buddy of mine back state side. I ets in 88. My buddy split so I stashed his 10R set in a box in my closet and lugged them around for years. My other original set, i stopped polishing and wore them through two marriages, boating, hunting, fishing, yard work, gardening, drunk concerts, kayaking on rivers, camping, work life and all without socks, i never wore socks in my jungles after i broke them in and yes that funky saran insert actually works. I beat the crap outta them, they were faded, frayed, brown in places and once in awhile in guilt I'd redwing boot oil them which they greedily sucked up. So from 87 to 2017 ish I finally out grew them??? Sold them on eBay for an astounding $50 to a Vietnam reenactor. As common with those boots my right boots sole plate broke and made a gawd awful clicking noise when you walked hahaha. Now few years ago i dug up the pair i had stashed and they actually fit, so oiled up,polished up and used in parades with 82nd abn assn James Etherton Detroit and other fun activities. My ladt old school pair. Kick ass boots boys 😂 Cheers from Detroit
Its a very nice hat haha
Those belstaff boots are going for $98 CAD right now. I think once people found out the welt is fake, and the midsole is cardboard, they put all the boots on clearance
i want to buy junbgle boots bata
I know that the pike brothers boots can have a problem with the soles splitting off have you had that problem with the SM wholesale pair or are they holding up pretty well?
I haven’t had any issues with the soles coming off with the SM Wholesale. One of the drain hole eyelets did pop out though, but I’ve had that issue on my originals too.
Nice Presentation!!!!!! Thank you😊
Jungle boots were cut to fit loose since feet swell up in hot weather.
There's a certain aesthetic Vietnam era jungle boots have. The vibram sole ones look the best to me, followed by rare ripple sole ones. I know the panama sole performs the best for its intended job, but hear they're not pleasant to walk on anything but mud. Beats using McNamaras in the jungle however! Love those boots too, but my all time favorite are WWII jump boots. If only companies did more faithful reproductions with all the accurate bits reenactors or history lovers enjoy.
How soft are the soles? Thinking about getting a pair of McRae jungle boots. I walk on concrete all day for work and want a pair mostly for fashion purposes. I know wedge sole boots are the way to go but I really don't like how they look.
I find the SM Wholesale soles to be very nice. I think they are softer than the original rubber but not too soft to wear down super fast. I wear mine every day and I find them to be less of a “hard impact” feeling boot to walk in than my originals and other Panama sole boots. I don’t think they are as soft as wedge soles, but to me the trade off is worth it because I hate the look of wedge soles.
You can re-sole the Belstaffs, and as long as the canvas holds up (and it can be patched) you can wear 'em for a long time.
Thank you for making this video!
What kind of hat are you wearing?
Howdy, I make hats for a living. I’m wearing one of the hats I made. It’s a pleated cap made using the reversible Mitchell pattern camo that was used on helmet covers during Vietnam and shelter halves during the Korean War.
Right, well I'm convinced. Soft brim all the way, and nice vest.
I ain't a reenactor nor a hat maker, but as someone who loves history, good looking clothes and items that have a story, I love what you're doin, keep it up you are really makin some lovely pieces.
Great video. I have the Pike Brothers Okinawa repro boots and they're at the moment my absolute favorite boots.
Good video!
Maybe the vintage vibram sole originals crack because they're old? Some materials don't age as well as others. Just a thought.
You coming to EBT anytime next year? Would love to see your products and get something made.
Yup! I’ll be there.
You certainly sold me on the cloth brim! Not only do they look much better, but the way you sew them together with stiff canvas makes them rigid enough without an insert. It also naturally lends a nicely-rolled look to the brim. Another problem with rigid brim inserts is that if they're not sewn into or molded into a rolled shape to begin with, they are very difficult to roll and to keep in a rolled shape, especially if they're plastic. I have several commercially-made engineer's caps (including some of the last adult-sized OshKosh B'Gosh fitted and snapback caps) where the brim, despite me trying to keep it into a rolled shape, just goes flat again and looks cheaply made due to the cardboard insert inside. And speaking of those cardboard inserts, I know all too well about the lumpiness of the brim after hand-washing them.
This video is super helpful! I made my engineer hat with a plastic insert. After two years of wearing it every day, the brim is worn out. Every time I put the hat through the wash and dryer, the brim got worse. Like the plastic insert was cutting into the fabric. After watching this, I'm gonna replace it with a cloth brim.
Someone did a video on the pike brothers boot and the soles split in a few months plus the midsole was of course cardboard.
Thanks for posting this. I just bought a new pair of Pike Brothers from Moore Militaria and they are giving me a hard time returning them.
I like to have some of them boots
Can you get the sm wholesale boots Resoled?
I’d imagine you probably could resole the SM Wholesale. I don’t know if they are active Direct Molded or glued on. But just like can be done with originals you could have the tread ground off and new vibrem glued on
I had a pair of Altima jungle boots for over twenty years I never had an issue
Hey guys! We love you both! Makes me want to go on a painting excursion!
Yeah, as a reenactor, one of the most common questions I get is, "Do you guys actually sleep out here?". It was nice to meet you at the EBT Gose to War by the way.
Great video what you all are doing is normal to me. But you're right everyone else it's not normal it's different that's what makes us stand out and inspires other people you guys inspired me whoever read this comment if you all don't own one of their hats, coats or set of their boots or any other of the cool stuff that they sell get in contact with them an order Some their great quality and american-made
This is so cool! Best of luck!

your song at the end chris, reminded me so much of Fred Holstein singing the wabash cannonball from i love toy trains.
