Just Plain Bad: The Story of Pacific Racing
Forti video: ruclips.net/video/AqLSeH_ee3U/видео.html
Simtek video: ruclips.net/video/4bz3LXAKk3w/видео.html
And so this series ends with the final of the three final privateers. Pacific Racing stormed through the ranks all the way to F1, but then everything fell apart. Their story entails a streak of futility matched by few, a partnership with one of the biggest teams in F1 history, and two of the slowest pay drivers of all time.

To be honest, i loved these backmarker teams back then, cause when you were at the track, they would always be the first ones to get out on track. I remember being at Hockenheim in 1995 as an 8 year old boy. Forty Fords Roberto Moreno was the first to go for a lap. That yellow car yellow helmet combo has been planted in my brain since then. The footwork hart boys and Minardis are still in my memory aswell. My dad bought me one of those mega overpriced F1 magazines at the track and all these 2D images made me even more excited to see the cars in real life. It was a great time.

It also had Keke doing a podium in 1980, and was the first team that adrian newey worked in F1. Sorry, but there is no chance in hell Pacific would get a works deal with Mercedes. I signed up to both Simtek and Pacific’s fan clubs when they entered F1 and I must say they really went out of their way to include you in everything the team was doing. The Pacific team sent out news letters every couple of months,I received signed photos from the drivers which I thought was an amazing thing as a fan and got discounts on the team Pacific F1 merchandise. I bought some really good t shirts and polo shirts from the Simtek fan club which in my opinion were way superior to merchandise that was being sold by the top teams in F1 at less than half the price. Obviously to survive in F1 you need to be successful and the reality was that neither of these teams were ever going to achieve that but they genuinely went about things the right way to get people on their side. Oh yeah and one last thing,I always drove as these teams in the F1 game on the PlayStation and won the championship as Gachot in the Pacific PR02,and no one is taking that moment away from me!

No matter how much good luck you threw at them they didn't have a shot. Without a works deal they'd have died off in the 2000s and Wirth made some terrible design choices at Benetton and Virgin so they wouldn't have made it that far without someone talented to guide him. He designed bad cars for a well funded team with a good number of engineers and that wouldn't have been any less the case with fewer staff

I would say that over time, the technical alliance with Benetton evolves into sharing aero parts, so Simtek starts running Benetton-esque cars with raised noses and the like. After I'm done with the Pacific video I'm doing a long what-if scenario where I put most of these together. I'll make the Benetton partnership more fleshed out there.

If only that last car had the reliability. The drivers said it was good, but it was let down by the engine power and the gear boxes. Especially the gear boxes. I think a lot of results for a lot of smaller and/or customer teams would have been different if the rules had been more like today when it came to engines, where the customer teams HAD to have the same spec engines as the works teams. Edit: Oof... I just got to that point in the video, I forgot Jeff Krosnoff's name was on the same car as his... It's sad because Jeff Krosnoff was killed at the Molson Indy Race in Toronto, the same accident killed a track marshall.
