I like both, putty for me I can use the sink right after the installation, Silicone I prefer to let it sat up for a couple of hours before I use the sink, bottom I'm OK with either one.

Silicone harbors bacteria, that's why when it's used in urinal outlets they always tour black. Kitchen fitters cheap trick.

man i installed my sink drain with silicone before, leaked... tried putty, no problem at all... silicone is so much harder to work with, it stinks and gets everywhere

I’ve was born into the trade so I’ve been using plumbers putty since I was a kid. I have had problems with it in the past and I was always taught to never use silicone but times have changed and I’m about to make that transition. I did a final the other day and I kid you not all 7 lavatories leaked at the pop up I had to use silicone and it worked perfectly.

This was so good! I enjoy your humor. ( then an explosion happened and everyone died😎) I am discovering the joys of home ownership (built in 1965) and learning new things everyday. I can't find the vents for any of my gurgling tubs, toilets, sinks etc. The metal roof was installed in 2021. No vents to be seen, which could be a good thing (for the roof). The house is on a slab, and if there is a cleanout anywhere, I haven't found it. I will check my attic more closely, my friend the rat has been silent lately. PS How is it possible for heated water to come out of a "cold" faucet?

I keep scooping it out , i place a folded towel to absorb the water then scoop out .. place another towel and pretty much do the same thing over and over, i’ve been doing this since last night, the sink just keeps filling up
