Love your garden Anthony, amazing how much you havest, you must be supplying the whole family/relatives 😂 Really enjoy watching your channel, you give us all great ideas...👏👌
Thanks for your videos very informative hope to get more in future. Thanks
The nets are a game changer for some crops. I am growing red russian kale and pac choi under nets in Melbourne. Keeps the white butterfles off them. I spray once a week with a soap solution to keep the aphids in check. The pac choi bolts, so i pull the plants and replant. Its working well. Kale will go all summer on a single planting.
hi Anthony um with your summer cucumbers will it be in full sun great update mate
Looking the picture of vibrance! Funny, we must be stealing the rains up herefrom you. Is making mulching and fertilising sooo much easier!
Another great vlog. Can you introduce wind breaks to assist your corn?
Summer has come in with a vengeance hasn't it?/
Hi Anthony, last year my corn was almost about to form the heads when a thunderstorm came through and flattened the lot. This year I put in stakes and put a guard around them all. Your garden is looking great. Approx. how many beans do you get from one jade bean plant? (Growing for the first time this year) I am picking 8 Zucchinis per week at present. My wife makes a beautiful Zucchini slice. Twice now we had a forecast of up to 20mm of rain but it did not happen. The bush around us is like the end of summer. I think if it does not rain soon we will have a catastrophic fire season. Getting increasingly worried. It is so so dry. I watched the radar today and the rain literally jumped over Adelaide. Have a great weekend mate.
🍅🥒🫑🍆🌽🖕
great video again mate, got my first two tomatos today u beauty
Love watching your veggie garden grow Anthony and it's a treat to see it so abundant. The hot weather has made a huge difference to me down here in the southern highlands. Soil temperature today was 30C and that's almost unbelievable. Lots to do tomorrow besides the mowing on my 3 acre property before the expected rain.
ahh the heat is mad. We hit 40 today in the hunter. Was trying to do some tomato maintenance and had to retreat into the air con. Looking forward to the wet change later this week. I think. Lol. I'd love to know how you're preparing for the big rains. That's definitely something I've searched for on RUclips and not really found.
My biggest thing is to go through and hill the soil around the base of the plants so that the water drains away from the base. I also like to stay copper and sulfur sprays right after the rain stops to prevent disease spread. I also look at the opportunity to add fertiliser to the garden as well
@sydneybackyardveggies9612 thanks for sharing!
The garden is looking incredible! Keep up the great work! 😍🙌💚
Appreciate the support, thanks for watching 👍
That dog barking must drive you insane!
Can’t believe how hard it is to film in between the barking dogs and the lawnmowers! 😀
I am trying to grow Armenian cucumber this year still only a small plant. Had to grow it as my husband is Armenian and I heard it does well when it is real hot and the other cucumbers struggle
Yeah they are really great to eat but I don’t find them as productive as the Lebanese cucumbers but the family love them
I usually place small plant pots upside down on top of garden stakes underneath netting to protect them from being ripped in strong winds.
Thanks for the tip yeah I will be doing that this weekend
500ml plastic water bottle bottoms also work
Great looking tomatoes mate!
Thanks mate yeah they are a bit of a sight now before they get smashed by the blight
The heatwave in Sydney is bad but your garden is looking great as always . Hard work pays off 🇦🇺🥦
Thanks mate
only a couple of years ago i learnt from a cooking professionals and backed by science video on how to cook corn on cob properly. bring water to boil and turn off heat completely when ready to put in corn, and cover pot for 30 mins. Saves energy and corn not soggy.
Going to have to do this tonight! Harvesting all the corn today
Perhaps you could place plastic bottles over your stakes to protect your fruit fly netting from snagging on the stakes, I enjoy watching your videos you being in the same hemisphere as me allows me to practically follow what your doing in your garden. Watching you from Namibia (Africa)
Thanks for watching. Yeah I’m going to do exactly that this weekend.
Your garden is flourishing Anthony!! Looks like you are in for some big beautiful harvests over the next few weeks!
Thanks mate! Hopefully harvesting my corn today. Was hoping mine wouldn’t get decimated like yours
Love your channel.... I'm from Melbourne... what's the name of your favourite tomato? Fara? Thunder? Thx Vince
Thanks for watching. Yeah I’m going to go to start planting more Farah. Nicer sized fruit and good flavour. Thunder is good though Farah I find is more value for money on cost. They are both commercial grade seeds so they do cost more than your standard heirlooms
Anthony. I live in the south west of Sydney. I have fruit fly about, their in my traps. I enclose all my fruit with netting. I have found over the years that if the fruit touches the inside of the bag the fly can lay its eggs. I stretch the bags and netting off the fruit each day, best of luck. Better luck next year for the doggies
Thanks for the tip mate. I have been seeing fruit flies around the patch for a month now but they haven’t seem to have damaged the tomatoes yet. Expecting it to happen over the next month or so. The netting on the capsicums is off the fruit so it should be ok. Doggies 2025!
I love your tomatoes, they look so good. You have a great vegie garden.
Thanks mate yeah been a good season for tomatoes
Anthony I feel for you with your corn it breaks your heart when the wind whips through and breaks the heads off. We use a lot of exclusion netting here in Queensland and it work well as long as you keep them completely covered, just keep a watch that the wind doesn't blow it around too much. Jacqui
Thanks for the tip. I have weighed down the netting with some stakes laid over the netting to hold it down so it doesn’t flap about
@@sydneybackyardveggies9612 Perfect 😃
We're still in winter over here in Perth mate🤷♂
Hope it warms up soon mate. You get all your hot 30+ days later in the season for multiple days straight
"Bunches are too big for the bags".... What a terrible problem to suffer 😎😎😁
Haha yeah it’s a good problem to have 🤣
Our weather here has been much cooler than usual. This seems to have noticeably started last year. How do we acclimatize seeds so they can germinate in this much cooler spring/summer season that we're now experiencing? Thank you
I have always found that soil is still too cold for summer seed germination up to late September so I will only direct seed outside in October onwards. I will always raise my seeds in punnet before this date to get an early start to the season
@@sydneybackyardveggies9612 Thank you
Wow! You are going to be swimming in tomatoes
Yep. Running out of space on my kitchen table to ripen the fruit. The parents are getting a bucket load of tomatoes every time I go past to visit 😀 will need to start making Passata soon
Growing well 😊
Thanks mate
They are looking really great. I am just about eating the last plateful of my summer crop. It’s lovely, watching yours grow Whilst our weather is so atrocious in the UK right now
Glad you are enjoying the content thanks for watching 👍
Good stuff. Looking fantastic 😊
What an amazing veggie garden you have established - congrats. You are an inspiration to all of us beginners.. Well done..!!
Appreciate the kind words, thanks for watching 👍
Spider mites! This is my first season gardening in NSW and I’m struggling with them to be honest. 😕
They seem to have come early this year. I usually get hit in mid January but my west facing beds seem to be a great breeding spot for them
Great update! I like the irrigation, what seeper hose do you use? Is there a particular brand you prefer? Also normal hose looks also quite flexible, would love to hear which one they are. Thank you, peter
Hi peter I use the 50m nylex weeper hose you buy from Bunnings. I find that it has lasted for 5 years without any major rupture. I find the cheaper ones only last 2 years before the fail.
hydrophobic soil is upon is in melbourne. does it happen to you? have you found any soil wetters that actually do work for real? i started growing paste type tomatoes in recent years, and really struggle to prune away suckers, as growth habit is weird. i enjoy watching how you grow veggies. pelleted carot seeds are expensive but give you much better control in planting.
Hi mate my soil was originally top soil I would add organic matter regularly. If it is hydrophobic right now mulch with cow manure and water that. It will retain water for you. Yeah I have used pelleted carrot seeds in the past might buy some again
Hi Anthony, another good update. I had spider mite real bad last year and lost my whole butternut pumpkin crop but, fingers crossed this year no issues. I have had a great season with carrots so far. Looking at yours, I would give them a real good thinning out and the others should bulk up. I 'm still jealous of your tomatoes. Great job. I'm off to Europe tonight for a couple of weeks, so I'll see you when I get back. Cheers and happy gardening. 👍👍
Enjoy your trip mate. Yeah I don’t think I thinned the carrots out enough need to be more ruthless next planting
Anthony your big tomatoes look amazing, unfortunately we can only grow cherry tomatoes here in Brisbane at this time of year. Jacqui
I tried to add fruit fly exclusion bags to some of my tomatoes but the bunches are too large for the bag. I did buy some netting during the week so my next planting I am going to see if I can plant them out with the netting in mind
I have a cucumber that's about 8 cms long now!! Getting long and big and it looks like its going to be the proper colour!! So I'm hoping to have my first cucumber in a couple of weeks!! That's if a) the heat doesn't get to it and b) it doesn't get eaten!! LOL!!
Well done mate. Cucumbers come in fast once they start producing
Ive only just found your channel, Anthony. What do you do with all the cauliflower you harvest? Do you just freeze some?
I still have a few left in the fridge which I will roast this week but generally they get given to family everyone ends up with 5 caulies each and they all get eaten up😀 I would like to get a chest freezer in future but I tend to eat a lot of my veggies fresh or give them to extended family
@@sydneybackyardveggies9612 Lucky family!
Mate, how did you go with the storms Sunday arvo?
It was the winds that were knocking me around the rain was ok. Everything was ok though some of the second corn plantings were knocked over so I had to hill them. The issue is it rains then you get the really strong sun and my patch is west facing so it bakes in the sun and I have to water it to keep it hydrated
All looking fantastic mate. 😊😊😊
Hi Anthony from Sydney fruit.flies are very had to control have fruit bait in place any advice on what aqa may help
Hi mate to tell you the truth I have learnt to grove veggies outside the fruit fly window I am harvesting my tomatoes now but I will lose the crop in 6 weeks. I will plant a second batch of tomatoes in Jan to harvest in April again outside the fruit fly window. I’m looking at investing in some fruit fly netting for the capsicums and jalapeños. Found a supplier in chipping Norton that sells it in lengths up to 50 metres retail
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Love the channel. Merry Christmas to you and your family. 🧑🎄
Thank you and merry Christmas to you and your family as well!
exciting times all round, looking to harvest my first tigerellas this week
It’s a great time of the year when you start harvesting tomatoes 👍
I am about one week away from picking first tomato 🍅
Congrats they have the best flavour straight from the garden
How do you keep the worms out of your cabbage?
Spray with pyrethrum every 19 days
10 days
thank you
WOW! You are the gardener of my dreams.
Thanks for the kind words and for watching 👍
What do you spray the tomatoes with to keep pests away please?
I use pyrethrum to crop general pests and wettable sulfur for spider mites. Also spray with copper oxichloride for fungal diseases
@ thanks very much 🙏🏻
Im like 2 months behind you 😂 Had a severe chickens in garden catastrophe. Free range I thought. Rookie mistake.
I had that issue once chooks got out of their run and decimated a whole patch of beautiful broccoli that were 2 weeks away from being harvested. I still have nightmares of my chooks escaping and getting into the patch unattended!
