I have an awesome set! I have to Technics SU-8080, ST-8080, and the 9900 set. Also, I added on the Technics 5 disc changer back in the 90s. All a gift in 1994 from my old man’s girlfriend. Where is the best place to sell this kind of stuff? Thanks.

That thing is enormous, I personally prefer a RT-909 over that.

Great work as always Jeff!!! By far this one of the best sounding reel to reel decks I’ve ever heard. I also have long been an audiophile, but mainly analog and vintage gear especially reel to reel decks. I have a couple of Technics decks.

The inserts in the platter are tungsten.

It’s too bad they don’t manufacture those types of machines anymore. It’s probably because they’re complex to manufacturer today because they would want something that is simple cheap and fast to manufacture.

I like those hub adapters. Way better than the ones on the standard 1500

yeah the simichrome works great to polish my huge beveled C Sharp turntable platter.

I've noticed that you have a bunch of US 5100 based units. For the money, it's the best recorder in it's time. i was so impressed by mine, that I got another one. I would record on one of them and then do post production on the second unit both at 15 IPS. Truly the best at top end frequencies. Would capture everything above 20KHZ. Sometimes, I'd have to trim them because the program was too bright. Only thing bad about them was their weight. The older I got, the heavier they got. haha. First machine cost me ~$900.00 The second machine purchased about 6 months later was ~ $1000.00. The closest machines to performance were about $ 3000 more, A Crown came in at $2500 more. An Ampex was even more maybe $4K to $5K. Some machines had glass heads. Actually fiberglass heads with wore very well but their top end was terrible. Maybe ended up ~ 16000 Htz. and became unstable at higher freq.'s A lot of owners had those glass heads replaced with typical lamenated ones. Horrible response for a machine of this level.

When will this be completed? Can we come by and audition?

The strobe/counter roller is jammed during the musical piece (so is the counter)

Why not use bipolar caps on the audio boards?

You don't replace the variable resistors also when you recap?

What a great piece of tapedeck. That is heritage! Seems to be studio-equipment and has the hpf-head like the RS 671. Love that Technics stuff👍🏻

When Technics decided the were to bring out the top of tops, they did it, in any audio fields.

All of the caps are decades Old, why not just replace them all?

i used to have a complete system by technics with this deck , the speakers were technics but had a real good sound i still have all boxed but in a room filled with shelfs and boxes and the boxes sometimes aren´t from what i´ve put them in, the turmtable was a SL-1310 with a cartridge and stylus also from technics but developed by nagaoka, they when releasing recentelly a new SL-1000G(maybe G or R) they contacted nagaoka to built them a good cartridge and stylus being over 5.000€ ,what i´ve found funny is some youtube channels where they have experts(?) the first thing they did was change it for , as an example a 2Mblack LVB that is so much inferior in reading quality to what came with the turntable ,then they released "the best receiver ever made and were like if it was a miracle to have better sound with some huge technics towers than with the Klipsch forte, they seem to do not know that a brand like technics had very good high-quality speakers and the ones they had made for the receiver in question"how can they sound better?" hum!!! experts in talking fast but not knowing basic hi-fi brands way of working, as an example a guy i know bought the very good old LaScala speakers but with those macintosh with downtown christmas lights type would not sound good and using a cd player as source lot´s of hum and hiss coming from the speakers, lot´s of money spent but with a litle portion of that value ,500€ would have a ebay bought cheap system with several times better sound, it´s not a matter of having more money but to see by reading the manuals if the specifications on both components are compatible
