The language patterns don't sound like any of the epistles we know Peter wrote. In contrast to Johns epistles and the revelation of Jesus Christ you can tell John did write them. Another thing that is off to me is the writer mentioning an angel by name... For some reason the canonized Bible only mentions 2 by name which have specific reoccurring roles. This makes me think a gnostic was the writer not the apostle Peter. They pretty much quoted things from the gospel we already know. The explanation of the fig tree seems off as well. The canonized Bible has a more authoritative feel to it. The more you read it the more it unfolds. A trait of it being Spirit inspired. It explains itself... Man inspired writing falls short of this.

In the Gospel of Bartholomew, the Savior takes Bartholomew down to Tartarus to look at Beliar (Satan). The Savior tells Bartholomew to "trample with your feet on his neck, and he will tell you his work, what it is, and how he deceives men." Bartholomew does as the Savior says and asks Beliar "Do you do these things by yourself ? ... , and Satan said: If I were able to do these things by myself, I would have destroyed the whole world in three days: but neither I nor any of the six hundred do these things. For we have other swift ministers whom we command, and we furnish them with many hooks and send them forth to hunt, and they catch for us souls of men, enticing them with sweetness of divers baits, that is by drunkenness and laughter, by backbiting, hypocrisy, pleasures, fornication"

Death means death, not living eternally… Rev 20:13-15 That’s why the saying goes ”be born once & die twice, or be born twice and die once” paraphrasing. It gets emptied of ”all the dead in it” in Rev 20:13… in verse 14 hell and 1st death are cast into the Lake of Fire, ”this is the second death”, meaning 1st death and hell are destroyed, so how could hell be eternal? And what would be the point when it’s empty, serving no purpose any longer? Nah, eternal hell is a heresy against God’s promise ”ye shall surely die”, and is actually Satan’s original lie, “you will not surely die”. The wages of sin is death. 32:47 According to Rabbinic tradition Jonah did die. Comparing this event with Jonah of a Literal event, to other prophets metaphorical events does a disservice to the text. When David is running from Saul, or feeling betrayed by Joab, he is not literally dying. Jonah is sinking to the depths of the Sea. He is literally dying. A human can only servive maybe 2 minutes holding their breath. A human can only survive how many feet below water, before the pressure kills them. We dismiss the idea of Jonah dying because we think how can a human body pray, when the body is dead. But it is the soul that is praying. The soul speaks in ways we cannot understand. In the same breath we dismiss praying because someone is in death. We also acknowledge Jesus speaks to the dead in Sheoul. How can the dead in Sheoul hear Jesus, but Jonah in Sheoul cannot speak to Got. In Eclesiastes Solomon says the dead have no impact on the living. But that has nothing to do with the Spiritual Realm.

  • @DavidLarson100

Gehenna is much more complicated than just a dump outside Jerusalem. Jews of that day, and Jews today too, saw it as a place of punishment in the afterlife. For Jews it is more of a purgatory of 12 months max. So Jews do not mourn for loved ones past 11 months, because that'd be dishonoring father and mother to say they were evil enough to deserve the max punishment. In Jesus' day, it wasn't as clear how long it would be, or if someone could be annhilated completely. Some rabbis thought the very evil would never leave gehenna, either being tormented forever, like later views of hell, or to be annhilated. They used Jerusalem as a symbol of heaven or peace with God in a holy place, so being thrown "outside the gates" to a place of separation meant punishment, so they chose a literal place outside the gates, the valley of gehenna, to symbolize it. Confusing. But people who believe in eternal hell could make a case Jesus meant a permanent gehenna. Those who believe in universalism or annihlationism could also have good cases to make, since the idea of gehenna was a pretty fluid symbol at that time. I will agree that to just translate it as "hell" is pretty misleading. It's a word that should probably not be translated since it has so much additional meaning to it and translating it would be a theological decision. Could just as easily translate it 'purgatory.'

Oh boy...no matter what one says here..some one... some where will have one or more issues...the narratives...as put forth by so many...actually many narratives...we...the people ...have been decieved...by many..for a long time...the most elect have been some of the greatest decievers..the old wolves in sheeps clothing deal...any and all of the religious texts..are crafted...to create spells of deceiption...under the guise of being the holiest of words..kings..queens..clergy..claiming divinity ...the dark agenda is their true agenda...rule by deception...rule by murder..you disagree..they kill you..

Respect for Tom Wright. Rightly so, the world rejects the political and religious facades of Western belief and expression. Modernity was/is detached from spiritual reality... the crucified, risen, and indwelling Christ Jesus. Watching folks "go East" (tho it too is hollow) makes sense as they find the "West" living out the decline of bankrupt materialism and moralism. Sadly, being truly "spiritual" has been hijacked by monism and mysticism. The Christian-religious response (i.e. sectarian Christian thought) is to lump all those who emphasize "being spiritual" as monists, gnostics, etc. Here's to finding true spirituality in Jesus alone as expressed here... "Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?-unless indeed you fail to meet the test!" (2Cor13:5) This reality... indwelling of Jesus, divine life restored and manifest in human function... is the DIVIDING LINE between authentic spirituality and Christian-religion. Anything other or less than an INDWELLING CHRIST, is moralism and walking according to the Flesh.

Crowded, loud, I have to squelch the urge not to run out screaming. No thanx.

Jesus was warning the Jews that judgment would come upon them for rejecting him. And 40 years later, Jerusalem was destroyed, the temple was decimated, and many Jews were exiled. And for the past 2, 000 years, Jews have suffered a lot while Gentiles received the Gospel and did better in a lot of ways.

What the Bible says is upon death, we undergo corruption and become dust once more. If our name is found in the book of life, we will be resurrected at the trumpet call for the resurrection of the begotten, to an indestructible body and rewards as the Lord sees fit. We will rule and reign with Yeshua for 1000 years. If our name is not in the book of life, we will continue to be in the grave until we are resurrected for judgment. At which time we will be given a new body, and personally undergo God’s judgment of our life.
