I understand people have the right to choose their partner. This also has to be said. It just doesn’t make sense for people to destroy their heritage and have kids that look nothing like them that will have lifelong identity problems. Nobody in their right mind all over the world accepts this IR stuff. Good luck with things.

We made our twin boys, a little book of pictures of them when they were born, pictures of their birth parents, and then told their story. We adopted them through foster care, but we got them when they were four weeks old. Honestly, when we first told them, they were very upset. They were about four years old. They threw the book across the room and started crying. But I still think it’s really important to tell them, even if it’s hard. That way, you can talk through their feelings as they come up as they continue growing. And also being OK with the fact that they’re going to be sad about certain things. We help hold their little hearts and cups of feelings, whatever those may be, and allow them to express those feelings. They are almost 6 now, and are often pretending like they grew in my belly. It does make my heart sad, because I know that there’s a part of them that is aching that they can’t really express. I’m hoping that as they get older, we can talk about these things more in depth. I also wonder how often these things should be talked about. I don’t want to consistently rip open the wound to remind them that they didn’t come from us. If that’s something that’s hurting their minds and hearts, I don’t wanna keep ripping it open and reminding them. So we don’t talk about it a lot, But as it comes up, I’m always open to it.

I’m biracial (black and white) and my husband is Hispanic, we’re expecting our first baby girl in November and my white mom didn’t know what to do with my hair & I honestly don’t even know how to do my own hair either (I’ll just straighten it or put it in Afro puffs). My appreciate this, I don’t want to damage her hair and want it to grow nice and long. I still don’t know what hair texture she’ll have but I’m getting ready early.

There is soo much content now online for all types of hair care as well as salons that specialise in natural Afro hair so I dont see how any mum can play the ' i don't know what to do'. Curly and afro hair definitely needs more time and care but its doable and any little girl loves their hair cared for and done.

I’m adopted, and I do love how you’ve been open with them. However, therapy should be a requirement as well. Adoptees grow up. They realize they were relinquished. Birthdays are hard, family tree assignments are hard, and no matter how much you love them, they will grieve. When old enough, the book the Primal Wound is an excellent resource ❤️

I love the fact that you care enough to learn abuout black hair care and not try to cut it off for convience. I have 3 biracial grandchildren and there mothers were so quick to cut their hair short to not bother with it or no moisture at all. I had to teach them as a black woman.❤

It’s absolutely ridiculous to ask “white people to listen to black people.” We should listen to one another on an individual basis regardless of race. and teach our kids to judge by the content of character, not the color of skin. Police brutality affects all of us, because if they have the power to abuse people, all are in danger. I understand this was done in good intention but believe this is further aiding in the polarization of white people and black people in America. If you want to fight against police brutality, let’s talk about the loopholes of the police union, because that’s the real problem. On top of the CIA funneling drugs and guns in the black community, keeping black and poor people in jail. <<< on purpose. <<<< THIS is the conversation we need to have. But no I will not be teaching my children to “listen to black people” tf? Weird.

OK I have to go cry you said heartbeats together. My adoptive mom didn't want me and didn't like me, and I'm 63 and I think the only bonds I know are trauma bonds. I'm happy to know that some people want to love the children they adopt. Sometimes she tried to pretend to like or love me, but that just made it harder and more confusing.
