Hi Sydney, I have been following for a while, since I started the MMS program at LECOM (2022 Erie). Sometimes our road is filled with obstacles that we need to overcome. LECOM denied me three times to their DO program. I am currently an MS1 at Ross in Barbados, and feel like I am where God wants me to be. Like you said, everything happens for a reason...sometimes we don't fully understand it at the time. Keep your head up, you will make a great pediatrician.

So happy for you. I went from pre-med to nursing. I plan to do CRNA afterwards because of the risk of going unmatched if I went down the med school route.

I am a current diagnostic radiology resident, who had to re-enter the match last year alongside you, and your videos literally saved my life, because when I was going through that trial, I felt that nobody around me could understand what I was facing. But you did! You are such a compassionate, intelligent, amazing person, Dr. Shearer! I wish I had you as a friend in real life, but I want you to know how much I look up to you as a colleague in medicine and as a role model in life. Thank you for everything that you do.

If it makes you feel any better, not putting other OB programs 1st didnt affect your chances of matching there. The way the algorithm works is if you dont get 1, it tries to match you to 2. Even if others have it 1- it checks the programs rank list and if youre higher than them, then you get the spot. So dont feel any regrets about your rankings. You're still going to be a doctor so congrats! Even though your story is very rough, and I'm hopeful i get one of my top choices next week for my match, were still in a position alot of others would kill to be in.

In the end we are grateful to the programs who accept us as their own, but the Match will always break your heart.

Currently going to the same med school that you went to and repeating OMS-1 year. I felt the same emotions, the same grief you felt although for having to repeat my first year instead of having to go through match again. I can wholeheartedly say God knew what He was doing. I couldn’t see it at the time, but His plan is always greater than ours and always works out for our good, I’m sure one day you’ll feel that way or maybe you already do! I’ll be praying for you sis I’m so proud of you!!! ❤ There are good things in store for you!!

Been following you on IG and came here right after you posted there. So brave of you coming to us in such a vulnerable and real way. It is so hard for our young not to say immature mind to understand Gods plan, but you seemed to understand it all. It is not a give up or just acceptance, it is faith! To trust all pathways that are opened to us are opened for a reason and to be able to follow it even if it wasn't our original plan it's a matter of faith. I admire you a lot!

Ok, this comment is more than one year late but I wanted to make it (Sept 2023). This is one of the most honest videos on match day/medical school I've seen. Thank you for opening yourself up to and explaining the soap process so thoroughly. I am a postbacc pre med aspiring to go into OBGYN. This whole process seems frightful. How are you doing right now? Have you matched into an OBGYN program?

Congrats to your matching! I have two kids in DO school now. One is in LECOM at Seton Hill, PA. She likes self-learning, not lecture. So far, she is doing great. The other one is in West Coast for a 2nd year MED School. Both got Master degrees too.

Hi Sydney! I actually found your channel from researching LECOM, and found your vlog of your first few days and it was so cool to realize that was now an old video and you're now starting residency! I am currently applying to both MD and DO schools this cycle, and was wondering if you could offer any advice or perhaps even make a video about your experience at LECOM? I am applying ED to my undergrad's medical school but if I am not accepted LECOM will definitely be on my list! Thanks so much and I hope all goes well with your residency!
