An Alternative Campaign for Baron's War
That's fascinating that is I used to write books and I got loads paper you give me good idea thankyou 😊
I printed out some One Page Rules Hive City terrain on thicker paper (not quite cardboard) and glued it together and it’s really nice and stable. Fills a 2x2 board for any kind of sci-fi or grungy game. I’m also personally tempted to print some historical themed buildings for glueing together (mostly Britain or Arabic themed houses) just so I have something on my board which isn’t super good expensive Great video, talking about a lot of good points!
@@xekon14 Cheers... I always use paper terrain if I'm starting a new historical period it's a cheap way to get stuff on the table without breaking the bank.
Muito legal....adorei...Santo André..SP....Brasil.
Nice! Sold me on it, actually.
@@johnpmchappell Cool...
At this scale, probably worth buying the slightly mythical "Godhand" clippers. Gunpla modellers (Japanese Mecha models) swear by them. Supposedly *very* clean, very sharp. no burring or marking.
@@johnpmchappell I did buy a new set of clippers for these and it was easier to clip off units without breakages.
They should have ignored scale and made the spears thicker. Standard practice for 10mm.
@@andrewshaw7856 That was my thinking as well..
1/72 Scale is 25 mm figure scale, not 20 mm. 20 mm figure scale is 1/80 Scale (technically 1 : 80.5 but nobody worries about that). 1/56 Scale is more like 32 mm figure scale, 1/60 Scale is 28 mm figure scale (actually it is 30 mm, technically, but because 'heroic' it is used for nominally 28 mm miniatures currently) and what the various "25 mm" ranges have crept up to.
Ive been very much appreciating the way you go through tabletop history! It's been an eye opening experience. Keep up the good work!
@@gpfunkable Cheers, going to looking at a couple of pre-40K sci-fi rule sets Laserburn and Imperial Commander over Xmas.

Another period of history, in the immediate post-WW1 era, is the Estonian War of Independence against the Soviet Union, and the subsequent "Landwehr War" to liberate Lithuania of rogue German Freikorps, crushing the hopes of an Imperial Baltic Duchy in the last days of the German Empire. Fascinating time period, would love to wargame it!
@@CornishCrusade I'll have to look that one up. Another good one is the Warlord years in China. It was quite chaotic with all the Warlords vying for power.
I would add the Friekorps period in Germany, which was really part of the war that saw the Russo Polish and Russian Civil Wars. I have figures for that period from Sheltrum Miniatures, who also cover the Chaco Wars. I also game the Rif Wars.
@@jeffreysmith6280 Great to see minis for some of these smaller conflicts
Good vidéo Thank you. But 1/72 is bigger than 20mm
@@patricekeusch1491 I have 20mm and 1/72 minis, to be honest there's not much difference between them.
good job. I learned a lot.
Any game that limits your actions, rather than Igo/Ugo move all your toys, is good for solo wargaming. Chain of Command with it's variable command dice is a favourite. DBx for ancients uses a command roll for each general again limiting what you can do, others like Bolt Action with its order dice, let you move everything but in an un-predictable manner.
Great explanations. Just picked up the sci-fi 5 parsecs from home and though I'll do some co-op with friends, I definitely plan to do some solo when our schedules don't match up
What scale is this? It looks less than 15mm but way bigger than 6 mm and also more than 10mm to me.
@@PMMagro It's between 10mm and 15mm so around 13.5mm I think.

I wrote a set of 6mm WW2 micro armour rules called ‘All Hell Let Loose’, that are good for solo wargaming. You can get a pdf or a physical book from Wargames Vault.

I find it helpful to create some randomized dice roll lists for enemy reactions. I also created formation and movement cards to randomize whats happening on the board.

I can heartily recommend the Two Hour Wargames series of rules. They are designed specifically for solo play and support cooperative and PVP gaming too. Games such as Nuts! for WW2 and 5150 for Sci Fi amongst others are a good starting point. .

@jeffreysmith6280 Think I'll check out the 5150 you mentioned. Thanks
@@jeffreysmith6280 I've seen 5150 on Wargames Vault and often thought maybe I should take a look.

@@TheJoyofWargaming Cheers... this week I intend to take a look at Solo wargaming
Thanks for the video. After returning to the hobby last year after a twenty year break I found all the different scales very confusing as which would be best. Have ended up with bits of each scale and one thing I only recently started to think about was scenery. If you are into too many scales you have to build make and store scenery for each scale as well!
@@EdwardWinkworth I have this very problem lol...
The 155mm Howitzer M1917 is a Schneider, not a GPF. The GPF was the 155mm Gun M1918. Longer barrel and less elevation. It was used in WWII by the US mounted on an M3 medium tank chassis as the M12 Gun Motor Carriage.
Thanks for the video, been interested in it for a while. It's always seemed daunting to start an army

Cromarty forge produces a great range that includes Celtics, Romans (early to late periods), Iberian, Carthagians etc.
Great review. Have a look at the Cromarty Forge range. John has produced the files in 10mm, 13.5mm, and 15mm. If you don't have a 3D printer ask John for permission to use a business to print them for you. I use Potbelly Miniatures here in New Zealand. The Plastic Soldier Company stocks and sells the Cromarty Forge range in various scales.

Hello, if I want to play battles, big or skirmish from the Dune series, which system would be best? I mean more like from the movies than from the RTS series.
@@jarosawknas8947 Depending on scale, in 15mm Gruntz is probably best, if it's 28mm then One Page Rules will probably work. You could use Xenos Rampart from Osprey Publishing, it's primarily for 28mm but I know people who've used it with 15mm and 6mm with some slight adjustments.
They probably all deserted
One page rules if you have a limited budget.
@@kelvinsantiago7061 Whilst it's a great set of rules, it's probably a good place to start unless you already know people who are wargamers and play One Page Rules. Most of the games I included have starter sets and are relatively easy to start with. I'd highly reccomend One Page Rules to progress to.
Came back to watch this one. Very interesting history! I've started thumbing through your old issues :)
Yay elephants! Too many cool models and games to play, not enough. Neat to see that each stand is sort of 'one model' as it were. Must be fun to paint!

@@andrewshaw7856 That's the plan, I just used some random bases to show them based up.
Not sure about WH 40k. The game has a fantastic lore, however, the miniatures are expensive IMHO. Unless you pick up used minis from Ebay.
@@MrTryAnotherOne I chose it because of how easy it is to access. People are able to walk into a shop on the high street, get a demo game and pick up everything they need. It's probably the easiest way into the hobby and that's one of the main reasons for choosing it. On top of that it's the most popular game in the hobby which means finding other players is easy. Then there is absolutely. absolute tonne of resources/content online for the game.
@@MrTryAnotherOne it’s maybe not the best game in this bunch but you can’t fault it for the amount of people it has got into the hobby. The lore, the online presence, the miniatures etc . Without 40K I honestly believe there would be less players in general.
I agree, ask any wargamer under 50 how they started in the hobby and most will probably reply via Games Workshop. For all it's faults it has done more than any other game for bringing in new people to the hobby of table-top wargaming.
Frostgrave was the first game I played after a long long time away from gaming. 6 years later we still play the game.
@@PadrePython57 It's a great skirmish game.
I want to get into 15mm because 28mm is so expensive that I can't afford it, and 15mm allows for bigger scale warfare. Do you have any 15mm games you could recommend?
It depends of which genre you wanna play, for WW2 Flames of War is a good rules set with excellent miniatures. Alternative Armies have a few good rules systems on their website.
