Amazing game, best “realistic combat shooter” you will ever play. Story was ofc controversial and didn’t work for me in parts but definitely made feel something about it, which is what good media does, make you feel strongly about smth. Tlou1 definitely had a better story but the ppl that ficking despise this game for the choices they made piss me off but in a way I also understand where they’re coming from

Thank you for this. It’s been several years since I played this masterpiece and it really has stuck with me. Not since Nathan Zed’s brilliant analysis have I seen a video where someone else really gets it. Your take on the story makes me think you have some inside information from the writing room at Naughty Dog but you really nailed it. You nailed their intentions and their execution, spot on, imo. Well said, and well edited. You gave the subject the sensitivity it asks for. Bravo brother.

The game is a masterpiece. Everything gets dirty with these absurd political fights of progressives versus convervators, I am totally away from all that nonsense. The game is the best I have ever played in my life, it is beautiful.

I have become so allergic towards anything that is woke, that my only question is: Is it another woke game? (If the game is extremely good, i can accept something like 10% woke without having to puke..) (I know they have made her a lesbian..)

This game is better than the first in almost every way. gameplay, visuals, violence ramped up to 11, much more fluid combat, more melee finisher animations than you will likely witness in one playthrough, the new rogue like mode, the more open & explorable, less linear approcah to map design... the only thing it falls short on versus it's predecessor, is writing & story but its many pluses outweigh the downside of a less compelling story. The story wasn't bad by any means. My only true gripe with it was how out of character it was for Joel & Tommy to trust random survivors in their territory, given their backstory as hunters who preyed on weaker groups of survivors. The real genius about this game is how it toys with your emotions. How your emotions are flipped from a deep seeded hatred for Abby, on par with Ellie's own hatred for her, building more & more hatred as Ellie loses herself more & more from the impact of Joel's murder, to empathising with Abby when you finally understand why Joel needed to die, and how she puts her own neck out selflessly for Lev, even going as far as betraying her own faction, while Ellie is on her downward spiral to becoming a borderline sociopath & the player just starts to wish she would just let it go & go back to Jackson. How each enemy NPC & even their guard dogs have names that are called out in anguish when their friends see them die, or find their lifeless body. How the dogs will whimper by the corpse of their handler if you take them out in stealth, how the enemy react to being shot in different body parts, and have different gory death animations depending on where they are shot or stabbed, the fact that you play the revenge story from both sides and see the impact of each protagonist's lust for vengeance both on their own faction & their rivals was genius. Every kill in this game holds so much more weight than the multitude of nameless hunters, cannibals & FEDRA goons that Joel murders his way through in the first game. As for the "woke" angle? Yeah I can see there's DEI here, but personally felt it was handled in a way far less cringey than other games "made for modern audiences". Abby is buff because she's been training for 4 years to exact revenge on a man she knows is such a hardened killer, that he single handedly took out the entire SLC faction of Fireflies. Joel was clearly a force to be reckoned with and she needed to ensure she was ready by the time he was located. Lev never confirms that they are specifically transgender. I saw Lev as more of a tomboy who had skills in stealth & archery at a young age & wanted to be a hunter like the men in the Scar faction. When they refused to allow this, she shaved her head in defiance to be like the men in her faction & was outcast with her sister. How a game with such non stop visceral violence, themes that explore loss of loved ones, sexual violence, a beloved character's descent into revenge fuelled madness, with such relentless depressing & dark themes throughout, that forced you to stab a pregnant woman to death & torture another for information, kill people's pets etc could possibly be viewed as catering to easily offended snowflakes, is utterly beyond me. This game is a masterpiece. I would give it 11/10 if i could. In Part 3, I would like to see Ellie & Tommy as the main protagonists in the present timeline, with lots of flashback sequences of Joel & Tommy as hunters, playing as Joel again, exploring just how bad of a guy Joel actually was before settling as a smuggler in Boston with Tess. I wanna see how Joel meets Tess. I wanna see the situation that sees Joel & Tommy go their separate ways. Perhaps the main timeline's story can be Tommy getting word from another group of Fireflies that they are still working on a cure & have a way to extract the cordyceps samples they need from Ellie without killing her. It could be the Santa Barbara faction that Owen heard about. It could be that Abby joins that Firefly faction & because she knows Ellie is in Jackson, she sends word to Ellie & Tommy of the possibility of a cure without the need for Ellie to die. Kind of a return to the theme of the first game, but with Tommy in place of Joel in the present, and a whole lot of fleshing out Joel's backstory in the 20 year period between outbreak day & where the story picks up in Boston. We could have Joel's old tanky combat in flashbacks, Ellies much more fast paced guerilla warfare tactics return & maybe Tommy (due to his injury) could be used as a marksman in combat sequences like the Pittsburgh financial district in Part 1, where Ellie is covering Joel as a plan B. Tommy could also have his own dedicated sniping sequences like the Pittsburgh Suburbs escape in Part ,1 where Joel is protecting Ellie, Henry & Sam from the sniper nest. It could also all be a lie. A means to lure Ellie in so they can operate and kill her for a cure, causing Tommy to go rogue & turn on his former Firefly friends. Perhaps even joining forces with Abby, in order to save Ellie once more & finally welcoming Abby into the Jackson survivor crew. I want a happy feel-good ending to this trilogy. Part 2's ending was just far too dark & heavy

21:49 What's kind of sad and scary to consider is what if Sidney was immune? Think about it. Most people once infected pretty much give up, thinking they will turn. So most kill themselves before turning, so even if someone is immune, they would never know, since they won't risk turning. After all Ellie only found out because she waited it out. Considering this, what Joel said about dozens of people being immune, may not be far from the actual truth. (I mean Joel was obliviously lying intentionally to make Ellie feel better.)

9:40 I think the problem some people had with Joel's death, wasn't that he died, but how he died. These people complained how Joel giving out his name to strangers was dumb and kind of not in character. Therefore, this being the thing that led to Joel's death was kind of ridiculous, as these people would say. Consider how in the first game, when Joel was in the car and saw some hooded man pretending to be hurt and asking for help. Living in this apocalypse has taught Joel that the hooded dude was just pretending setting up a trap. Showing how Joel is someone that doesn't trust others easily and is smarter in his decisions. Another example is seen even in the second game. In one of the flashbacks Joel is insists that Ellie always wears a mask, as to keep her immunity a secret. Because you never know who you would run into. Another example of Joel being mistrusting of the outside world and being smart. Therefore considering the hundreds of people Joel has killed, I'm sure Joel is aware of the possibility of someone trying to track him down to kill and get revenge. Therefore, Joel who has shown to be careful, should've not given out his name and instead give out a fake name or something. This is just what some people said, and as much as I do really like this game. I do agree with these people on Joel's dumbness in giving out his name.

I cannot understand how people could think the second game is on par with the first one. No hate to anyone who feels that way but I cannot understand it.

Im a massive fan of the first game. The second is great in so many ways. I think when they make you try to kill ellie, playing as Abbie, went too far. I dont care how much you love abby....it was just ridiculous to have a combat scene against ellie. Someone please convince me that it was agood idea for ND to put that in the game. I didnt like any love story crap either.

The scene that made me fully love Abby as a character was seconds after Yara is shot dead. Abby and Lev make a quick escape. Lev understandably is shook that he lost his sister. Abby says they have to get a move on. Lev: "Those were you f***ing people". And what Abby says next really touched my heart. Abby: "Hey, you're my people!" Even as I type this thinking about this scene makes me tear up. The reason is because think about it. Lev has lost everything. From Lev's perspective the whole world wants him dead, the infected, the Serephites, and the WLF. He accidentally killed his mom in self-defense. Someone Lev still cared for deeply. The only person that stood up for Lev and still loved and cared for him, his sister Yara, she's dead. Lev lost everything! This is Lev's lowest moment so far. He is sad and hopeless. But in that moment Abby comes through. When she tells him that he is her people. She is basically telling him. Lev I'm going to be there for you. I'm going to fight for you. And I'm going to support you. No matter what. Hearing something like that, when you lost everything, means the whole world to anyone. This is why the scene touches my heart and made me fully love Abby. Seeing her humanity shine through for Lev was so beautiful. Yeah Abby was still flawed, as hours later she was going to kill a pregnant Dina as revenge. Super messed up. But still I love Abby for her show in humanity towards Lev.

The gameplay of the last of us 2 is really amazing and the storyline is quite complex and challenging for others but after years I see how it was necessary to have Joel killed as it shows that actions like saving Ellie had consequences for people as well. Abby being trans threw people off and obviously made so people miss the point of her being a pov character it's to show so she was human too, she had friends, hopes, fears and principles of her own. Just showing Ellie and killing Abby without playing Abby's pov would have made this storyline to cliche cause you don't get to see Abby's interactions with her friends to understand how it feels for her to lose them to Ellie.

I think that people often think that video games have to be fun, or make you feel good. Video games are art. Art can evoke any range of emotions. That includes the negative emotions. I also don’t think gameplay has to fall under enjoyable to be a good game. Sometimes, that can be the point. Look at games like Pathologic, borderline unplayable. But that’s the whole point.

Main reason i like Tlou2 over Tlou1 is the replayability. I played through Tlou 1 about 3 times but just got burned out so fast. But in Tlou2 im sinking in tons of hours and genuinely enjoying the game. I love how the games story makes you really feel like your in Ellie's shoes. You can see it through the fact that most people felt the same hatred that Ellie felt throughout the game. Its crazy to me how people simply deny that game could ever be perceived as "good" and just hate it.

Canonbolt (he has an ultimate form which is great, he is one of my fav aliens, i will crush my oponents as a ball, hes even better than fourarms and diamondhead) 4. Peskydust (i will use him to put my enemies to sleep and get info out of their minds and easily defeat them, pesky dust is cute on the outside but very powerful) 5. Chromastone (i will use him to fight opponents that have energy attacks, i can absorb it and shoot if back) 6. Amphibian (he is my flying alien and he is super strong, electric powers and the ability to breathe underwater, he's op) 7. Clockwork (i will only use him on rare circumstances, or just on my daily life cuz manipulating time is cool) 8. Echo Echo (he has an amazing ultimate mode which is op, and i can overwhelm opponents by outnumbering them) 9. Waybig (i will use him to end fights quickly or to fight giant enemies, and if that fails then I'll use ultimate waybig) 10. Alien X (i will only use him to fight extremely strong enemies or if im fighting another celestial sapian and convincing Belicus and Serena shouldn't be too hard)

this fucking gameeeeee i loved when manny looked up and instantly shifted gears. actors went crazy, even the moment of mel staring at owen when he tries to stop abby from going to the hospital. you can tell Neil and his team curated it so perfectly to key you into the feelings without making it cringe. fav game of all time also.

I think when part 3 comes out Abby is gonna sacrifice her life to get an vaccine when she meets the fireflies because Abby is immune like Ellie. And i think the developers wont choose Ellie because it will make fans even more angry. But man i Love part 2 i think its better than 1.

The writing for this game was absolute shit. They didn't stay true to the characters that they built in last of us 1. The mechanics and graphics were great. But boy did they butcher the series with this pile of crap. Let's make Joel incompetent and kill him off and replace him with another lesbo you don't care about for half the game. But remember she's better than Joel because she killed Joel with a golf club, outsmarted him. Pile of absolute crap.

That part with the psVita tripped me out so much, youre right in it being surprising anyone had one... But i started listening... Recognized the music coming from it... That mf was playing hotline miami2 lol you can even see it on the screen! The small details were insane... Even outside the pretty shocking facial animations on dying characters lol

I think when Ellie tells Abby to “take him” after their final battle, she’s really referring to Joel deep down. Like she lost Joel to Abby when she murdered him and in a way, killing Abby would bring him back to her. But after they fight and she gets a final glimpse of him in her mind, she’s telling Abby to take all of this pain from her. Take this guilt. Take Joel.

I love Joel's answer, "I saved her." There is so much packed into that, you need no other explanation, that sentence holds the weight of everything that happened, when he talks to Ellie as well and just says, "I stopped them." She needed no more, it held that weight. That always sticks in my head. The scene with Dina before Santa Barbara, and the porch scene...just amazing acting. I could say many more but those stick in my head.

The beginning of this game is literally the calm before the storm. My father died in 2020.. have a tapestry if joels Nellie above my ceiling in my room along with lighting and tattooed from this game including Ellie's.... my brother once told me inrmeminded him of her and it was the best compliment I've ever got. I keep going down this wormhole. The passion for this franchise though. What'd they expect players to feel like?! That's what bothers me is Neil knew this would divide and hurt the fans but wanting to use his original idea he had for part 1 he used it for 2 instead. To divide half the fans and be ok with that. That is what bothers me. All to implement his own idea instead of what fans wanted. Its not about Joel. Misconception where people think everyone was hurt he cheaply got killed. Its more than that. I enjoyed the first half. I fully understand writers critique. My son even took a writing class and its a good way to understand stories and how to write them etc. The execution of this story is what messed it up for many people. I wanted to play as Abby first. Or have ellie chapter 1 then play Abby. I back n forth. The extreme height of emptions at that seemed to be Ellies ending. To then playing as Abby. I knew immediately what the writers did and knew this was an empathy tactic. So the wind in the sails died for me. The game felt over. I spent over 13hrs as Ellie. Spent my time roaming and had fun. I knew already why Abby and her friends did what they did. I didn't need another long winded half cooked story. Why I wanted to play as Abby first? Well knowing all of her friends died. Psychology 101. Our brains protect us. Knowing all of em are dead. Well many people don't wanna get to know them. Because they are already dead. Why we need to establish life and love first. Not implement hey these are those friends you killed. Gamers play to have fun and be in a fun alternative reality. We don't play to be tested and shown our bias. Nor be shown the error of our ways. This game should be a book or comic as this style of writing is super rare. I have nothing against Abby as I knew and prepared for Joel's demise. I called it years ago. So seeing it happen early didn't bother me. When a game is held this dearly and passionately for people because they made such a good part 1 yes its hard to replicate in a sequel. However its all about the execution and order. Many people who enjoyed this game at least could agree the order of playing Abby and ellie needed flipping more to keep the pace going better. I lost all umph to continue soon as Abby popped onscreen. The final rattler stage was also unnecessary. Whole thing is killing and revenge is bad but the rattlers were shown as worst of the worst and ok to kill these guys. Yes we know you can stealth so killing all the npcs is not Canon per se. Yet majority of gamers don't play this way. Redemption and the ending. Yes it works but it didn't necessarily fit properly. Would take me an hour...lol. to discuss this one. The idea surrounding what the writers did was fantastic but in my opinion I think people overlook the bad execution all because they loved the idea of what was done instead of it being done properly. Keep the fans happy and not cause such turmoil. Neil didn't have full reign yet when 1 released. In 2 he had full regin. He gave what he wanted not what we wanted. Thats the issue for me. To know it would divide his fan base but to continue to do it anyways. I respect and fully understand why people loved 2. I also understand why people are unhappy as well. You did a good job in the video! People still talk about it and that's proof how much passion people still have of this franchise and the direction it went.

I love part 2, even more than part 1. Unfortunately, I was spoiled before the game came out, but for some reason instead of getting angry, I decided to give it a chance. I never hated Abby. I even ended up liking her as much as Ellie. I think part of the reason I approached this game with an open mind is because I loved the first game and it bothered me seeing such a strong backlash even before anyone had played the game. A lot of the people complain about actions that characters have taken that seem out of character, like Joel deciding to be more open and trusting Abby at the begging. The way I saw it is that he had changed from the person he was in the first game. He started as this cynical, bitter and even cruel man, but Ellie had softened him. He was probably starting to integrate to Jackson and being part of the community, letting more people in. Unfortunately, you see the reverse in Ellie for part 2. She goes from this idealistic kid to becoming more like how Joel was at the beginning of their journey. And I agree with your take on his death! It might not be satisfying, but it is realistic. Often times, people just die, abruptly and in no blaze of glory. I don't think anyone was supposed to feel good about his death. I don't know. It might not be perfect, but this game had a great emotional impact on me and I'll remember it as one of the greatest games I played so far. I'm going to be honest, I don't think the gameplay it's the best I've ever experienced, but the story and characters more than make up for it. My aunt that doesn't play games told me that she watched my uncle play this game as if it were a movie, lol. Not too long ago I saw some interviews of Joel's voice actor talking about the games, and now I appreciate so much how Neil stuck to his vision. Sometimes the most beautiful stories are the hardest to tell.
