Why I am coming off my antidepressants (Lexapro / Escitalopram)
Просмотров 3988 месяцев назад
I started out on citalopram a.k.a. Celexa a few years ago. A little over a year and a few months ago it stopped working so I switched over to escitalopram a.k.a. Lexapro, which has worked really well for me. But now I am ready to try coming off of them! And here’s why….

It can cause restless legs. I know how terrible feeling is that. Like I'm so tired and want to sleep and my legs don't want to. Use gabapentin or pregabalin! It should help and in low doses it's pretty safe.
Thank you so much! ugh yeah RSL are awful! Im off of escitalopram now, but RSL is still bad (I think its just nerve issues). Im on Ropinirole (.25 mg) and it helps SO much at night!
How r u? Are u out of it
Great “drug”, great destruction of life. Just stop taking it and the effects of the treatment will appear.
Meda don't heal circumstances
Just started the medication- I am prone to restless leg syndrome so hoping it doesn’t make that worse. It’s an awful feeling !
ugh YES! I hate RSL. I just started taking .25 mg of Ropinirole at night and its made a huge difference!
Im not trying to hate but 11:13 is why women should be encouraged to protect themselves. Were physically different than men and have different responsibilities. Women should be encouraged wait until marriage to have sex for their own protection. No contraception works 100% of the time even when it is being used
Also at 12:00 "sex is great it's what you're meant to do, but you didn't want to have a kid" Then sex isn't what you were meant to be doing 💀
Set speed at 1.35x, thank me later
Thank you for sharing your story. How many weeks were you when this happened ?
Thank you so much for sharing. I am starting today with celexa 20mg. ❤
Believe me you will return to ad. Mental issue will never be cured voor 100%.
Why??
Why did u stop
PRO CHOICE!!! 🎉🎉🎉
You’re video really helped me look at it from a different perspective thank you for sharing such a personal experience. I currently had an abortion because I wasn’t mentally ready considering I’ve struggled with depression and anxiety it was something I didn’t want to continue with and I knew it was the best choice for me, we’ve had safe sex and I never would’ve thought I’d get pregnant or even be in this situation. I’m currently struggling not because I regret making the best choice for me but because I feel so alone like I’m the only one going through it, I have no one to turn to and open up because i know I will be judged or hated for what I chose to do so I feel lonely, scared and depressed. After watching this it gave me a bit of ease knowing I am not alone.
Doctors really need to inform people that no form of contraception works 100% of the time
Citalopram is poison. Took it for 18 years, and now I am addicted. There are too many withdrawal side effects to stop.
how far a long were you when you had the abortion please?
After 3 years I'm tapering Celexa and so far so good no more panic attacks and anxiety has become manageable, congratulations
Just watched your video.I’m taking the medication. Sharing your experience helps me deal with my own struggles. Thank you
Im so glad it helps! And good luck on your journey! <3
Glad I came across your videos when I have 😊 I just started the tapering process this week after being on around 10 months. I've been so exhausted daily and have gained more weight than comfortable for me in the process 😮💨. Can't wait to be on the other side of this journey and see what life is like again. Thank you for sharing your story and process!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH CELEXA💞
I would appreciate 🙏if you please do another video about more details how ur therapist helped u do the work
I went on citalopram for anxiety. I am now coming off citalopram and it's a nightmare I would not recommend anyone take this drug I do think that you should listen to your physician but I think anyone who prescribes this should be a psychiatrist I do not think a PCP should be prescribing these drugs. Withdrawal is severe off of citalopram do not let anybody tell you any different you can Read All about it All over RUclips also people with these experiences and I know quite a few people who absolutely couldn't come off of it. I am a healthcare professional myself but I was not aware this drug carries such a dependency in your body. They don't want to call it addiction so they call it dependency. 40 mg is the highest dose of citalopram. I took 20 mg. If you satisfied and you want to be on a drug your entire life then that is your decision I prefer to handle my anxiety and depression with holistic means.
Has anyone tried St john's wort? I've heard it has same effect as reuptake inhibitors (Anti depressants).
St. John's wort I used to take, it did not harm me. But the most important thing is to think, when I was on vacation i was relaxed there were no anxieties. SSRIs ruined me, everything collapses when you stop taking them, in my case they dilated my stomach and caused bipolarity and zombie mode If I hadn't taken them I would have lived a long and sometimes happy life.
@krzysztof4543 Try 5HTP and tyrosine. 5HTP is fuel for making serotonin. Body uses tyrosine to make dopamine. Both are simple food supplements. Also you can try vitamins+minerals pills. but pay close attention, if your body does not like it, cut the pill in half and take it that way.
You seem screwed. DON'T LEARN TO TAKE THEIR PERMANENT DRUGS FOR A TEMPORARY DIS COMFORT! DON'T BE STUPID!
In my experience, also taking it for two years, the worst thing that happened to me was having gained 20 kg even though I had "good habits"
yeah its frustrating :( I also gained quite a bit of weight after 3-4 years and currently trying to shed at least some of it, but it is not easy!
Baby killer evil
I tried to get off and i get the jitters and akathesia so bad. I am in for a looooong slow taper.
ugh I am so sorry :( akathesia is AWFUL! soooo glad you are listening to what your body needs though! A super slow taper seems like a good call. Best of luck!! <3

Thank you for being so BRAVE for sharing your story, and opening up yourself up to any hate. I could never be so brave, will not be that brave. Ever. I keep my secrets deep inside. Congratulations on your son! 🎉❤❤ You are worthy of good things, always 😊 BIG HUGS TO YOU XOXO
Hi, appreciate the video. What has helped you the most coming off Lexapro? I am looking to get off Sertraline 25mg currently will be talking to my doctor tomorrow. My main issue is anxiety.
I’m so glad you appreciate it ❤ honestly the biggest thing that has helped is talk therapy with a therapist I really trust and am comfortable with. I go weekly and have worked through a LOT of past trauma I didn’t even realize I had. It’s been helpful to better understand the WHY behind my anxiety. And also having friends that deal with similar kinds of anxiety really helps me feel validated and understood. Best of luck!! You’ve got this ❤❤❤❤
@@thejackieevans Thanks for sharing :) I have been off for 5 days and doing well so far. I will be seeing a psychologist at end of this month. Feel like I am on the right track, glad you are coping well :)
I’m sorry for the pain you went through and that you were so isolated in the process. Abortion is traumatic no matter what by its very nature, because it is eliminating an innocent life inside the mother. I don’t agree with your final conclusion of thinking abortion was necessary. I think in such situations it’s very difficult to think otherwise, so I understand why you made it. The truth is, none of us can judge because we are all sinners; none of us are righteous in our own merits before a holy God. However, the good news is not that we become worthy on our own, but that God sent His only Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for our sins. We can try to minimize our sins and our need for a Savior, but that will only isolate us from God further. True freedom comes only when we come to God in genuine repentance for our sins and our hardened heart; His miracle is that he gives us a new spirit and a new heart.
Has any one els had head tremor from these meds
I have been on citalopram for years. Tried many times to reduce the dosage from 20 to 10 mg. It usually works for a few months, but once there's a trigger for anxiety, I immediately relapse and start feeling super anxious, fearful and hopeless again. Last episode was about 2 to 3 weeks ago, I went back to 20mg immediately and is still not back to normal yet. 😢
Im so sorry :( thats gotta be tough!! are you able to see a therapist while you decrease? I could not have done it without my therapist, but understand thats a luxury!
@@thejackieevans I've been seeing a psychiatrist who agreed with the dosage reduction.
The guilt that you was feeling was the truth about your decision to kill your preborn child.
Naw. I’m more than happy about my decision darling.
On 10mg week 3 now, no side effects and really feeling good and it's not placebo. Ohly thing is appetite has gone down. Normally fast but trying to eat something daily now while taking this meds. Put this off for long as my son is on SNRI been through the lot with him. My nervous system completely calmed down after trying everything myself first, I was stuck in fight or flight each day all day. I feel the difference. I can breathe again. Watching withdrawel videos is a bit daunting but this trumps over that. Everyone reacts different so glad I'm ok on this and yes also sleep better at night. Had 2 alnighters but that's it, always been a night owl, but I'm out otherwise at 8/9pm.
I hope you’re doing better!! I totally feel you on being stuck in fight flight or freeze. It’s EXHAUSTING!! It took me quite a while to get a more regulated nervous system. If it makes you feel any better, I’m now like a month off of it completely and feel great!!! It was tough for a few weeks, but manageable!
Thank you for sharing your experience. I’m so glad it’s going well. I hope you will continue to update us. 💜
Im so scared to come off this junk, i read that you have to do a 10% per month reduction taper. Is that too rigid ? Thanks 🙏
Oh wow 10%?? I did it way quicker than that but don’t recommend how quickly I tapered. Have you talked to a doc about what they suggest?
Are you still on Lexapro?
I’m actually officially off of it after almost 5 years. I’m Only a few weeks in though and doing okay so far.
Yea I have appointments w a psychiatrist to my first one 1️⃣ June 6th or so my first one I was off the lexapro 5.5 months and I didn’t have any side effects that I felt
I take lexapro gotta take it now
2022 when i started for my script October 2021 and started right at the end
Did you remove the screw or pin i Also had this surgery
Good luck Jacqueline it sounds like your definitely in the best place possible to come off ! I personally think you should do a slower taper. I think your doctors plan is way too fast and might be a set up for failure. Even though your in a good head space and have done all the necessary tool building exercises your brain will still need time to adjust . Please ask your doctor to taper slowly off like at least a few months. Anyhow I wish you all the best and look forward to your updates!
How hard was it to taper off?
oh man. It was rough. The first couple days I lowered by dose I felt totally fine. Then day 4 and 5 were AWFUL! My brain felt like it was being stung by a bunch of bees. Im on day 15 now and my brain doesnt hurt, but feeling suuuuuper emotional. I can tell its getting better, but its probably going to take awhile. How about you??
@@thejackieevans im trying to figure out when i can go off. Do you have a email or IG I can ask you about the med, I feel like I am stuck and struggling.
@@thejackieevans update
Im tappering too kinda nervous
im tappering too
Im coming off too! Good luck you’ll do great
Thank you so much!! You too! 🩷🩷
It helped and helps me intensively. Thanks to a good doctor I finally have the good medicine. Been on 20 mg for five years and feeling good. Yes gain weight and sometimes sweating but mostly not. Best AD I have taken in my life. The first month I felt like a zombie, after that it really kicked in with good results.
I’m so glad to hear it helped you too! Thank goodness for meds! Idk what I would have done without them
Glad you’re doing better ! Can I ask what dose of escitalopram your on? Thank you 🙏
Yes! I am on 10 mg right now :)
Wow...SMH...😢😢😢😢Dang girl the baby...dry snitch on you so she dont get caught with her hand in the candy jar..nope is it a grapes🎉🎉🎉🎉😂😂😂😂😂
