Oregon Coast Trail FKT: Bullards to Humbug Mountain
In August of 2024 I attempted to set the first Fastest Known Time (FKT) of an unsupported woman on the Oregon Coast Trail. While this would be my first ever speed record attempt, it was a somewhat casual endeavor in the sense that there was no current record for unsupported so I just needed to go at a pace I could manage from beginning to end. That said, if I needed to seek external support for gear, food, etc, starting out unsupported would afford me the opportunity to pivot and transition into setting a new self supported women’s FKT, which has been held by Lucia Powell since 2018 with a time of just over 13 days. Outside of thru hiking, I have zero background in endurance sports so I’m...

My videos are uploaded with a delay and I had them scheduled to post ...

Oh neat, we were on the OCT at the same time! Really curious to see how you managed with all the logistics. I stopped at the hiker camp first day and thought 23 miles on day one was pretty good, so it's wild to me you did 40 miles with those two mountains in the way.

Right? It’s good for her to play it safe, especially if a high river would cauae the FKT attempt to fail. But dang, that section is so gorgeous. Floras lake, blacklock, the old growth driftwood walls on these beaches, the rivers, the pelicans, the lighthouses, … oh well. It makes a grest section hike so I guess she could always come back and just do that part.

She could have avoided crossing the Sixes River and still have gone to Blacklock Pt. Then taken the Pt. Oxford. Airport rd over to the highway.

Nice video. Did you notice the RVs at 03:00? That is why you never buy an RV, only rent. They are poorly constructed. A conversion van is nice and can be good enough. It sounds like you need more vitamins and minerals. I have to take potassium and magnesium or I will get leg cramps at night. Magnesium is supposed to help reduce pains too. Happy Trails. Good Luck, Rick
