    The tree and the floor lamp are competing for the space and that is visually why you struggled. Put the lamp opposite in a space in the room where they stand alone away from one another.

      That was actually a rental, lol. And I posted the video after I returned the rental. But I probably should've blurred it out because it wouldn't hurt to do it and you are right, you can never be too careful. I have to look to see how far you are away. I love Georgia! But California will always be home. The locals warn me of the summers, but they should be warning me of the winters. Because I love the heat and humidity in Georgia. And I love the rain in the summer! I can't wait for our first summer in the new house. I plan on sharing every room and the new house and outside! I have a lot of work to do in the backyard. Thank you so much for watching and again thank you for your great advice. See you in my next one! ❤

    Hi Nona, I just watched your video and you were saying there were no Kirkland’s in Los Angeles. You’re correct but we do have Kirkland’s in the inland Empire such as Chino, Rancho Cucamonga, Fontana I believe Riverside possibly Moreno Valley so you don’t have to go all the way to Georgia for the nearest Kirkland’s to L.A.

    Hi Nonna, i love all your treasures! Everything is coming together so nicely. Your living room looks so cozy. Your daughter made a good call. I have that same teapot!! She is beautiful! Lol. Mine has a red bird on the top. I wonder if it's a different size? How's your landscaping coming along?

    • @NonnasCleanGetaway
      @NonnasCleanGetaway 22 часа назад

      Hi Mia, thank you so much. Something happened within me; I'm loving antiques and vintage stuff. The antiques store smell reminds me of when my mom and grandma would take us kids antique shopping for HOURS it seemed. I'm surprised they don't have a candle that smells like an antique store. Not that it really smells good though, lol. I'll have to look for the teapot with a red bird. That sounds cute too! I bought the jumbo size because it had the brass bird on top. When my daughter suggested putting that picture there I was afraid it would make the room feel cluttered but nope, it needed a picture there. I only have so much wall space but so many great pictures. I guess I could rotate them. Oh my gosh, the outside!?! Ummm, we have clay soil which I had no clue!! It's so hard just to dig a ten inch hole!! And that red clay color is strong! Now that I know about it, I notice it on everyone's houses. I did mostly finish the side yards but I ran out of time to do the front and the backyard. I was out there taking measurements of the backyard during twilight. It was on my list of things to do before I left. I got my list done though! I will try to plan out what I'm going to do back there. First thing I'm doing, which I'm almost done, is taking out the pine needles they use as ground cover here. I'm using mulch. I'll have to post my yard and garden video(s) soon. I'm playing catch up in LA right now so I'm hoping I can get that edited this weekend. The grands left to s. Korea for two weeks today so I'll have time on my hands. I was in GA for 5 weeks! I missed everyone so much! How are you? Are you going back to work? Any progress with your library? In my description box, there's a link for the canvas I bought...they also have a canvas of a lady sitting in a chair reading a book...I thought of you when I saw it. Thought it would be a nice picture for your library. Do you have any really old books?

    1st time watching. Looks lovely! My only critique is to paint your wall vents above the love seat same colour as your walls to blend them in. All your choices are spot on!

    • @NonnasCleanGetaway
      @NonnasCleanGetaway День назад

      Great suggestion! We recently had our condo painted and the painter did that. So I will definitely do that. I plan on taking all the registers out and washing them, which that big one on the living room wall, I might replace if it doesn't clean up well. The walls are alabaster white. It would be easier just to leave them that color to do touchup but I also got a paint sample called Paris Rain which is like a gray green. It's a very light color. But I also like the white walls! So many options. 😊

    I live here in Georgia and the recycling situation is not the same in my area. We automatically get a garbage bin size recycling bin and you have the option to have an extra one. We can recycle everything except glass. There is a place we can take our glass to recycle.

    • @NonnasCleanGetaway
      @NonnasCleanGetaway День назад

      That's what my electrician said as well, he lives a city over from me. I guess it depends where you live? I know Atlanta is better as well. I'm not used to choosing a garbage company and a gas company. In LA we just choose internet, everything else we just have one company for each service. The green waste (lawn clippings etc), we have to put it in an oversized brown paper bag in GA. You'll see the process in an upcoming video. It's a learning curve. I also have to get used to not putting glass in the recycling. It feels wrong putting glass in the garbage. I'll get a routine down to make trips to the recycling center. Thank for sharing what it's like in your neck of the woods. I've been learning so much about life there. ❤

    First time viewing your channel…. and what truly matters is how YOU feel in your space! Anything we viewers have to say should RESPECT that this is YOUR home❣️ That being said, as a professional stager for 19 years (who uses a lot of black btw), I would like to offer a suggestion…. because there is a lot of high contrast with an all black/dark furniture and rug selection against white walls, softening that stark contrast with rich, warm accessories (pillows, throws, wall art etc) will bring better balance and rhythm into your space ☺️ ~ if that’s helpful, wonderful! If not, don’t listen to me 🤣 ~ above all, ENJOY your home 🏡

    • @NonnasCleanGetaway

      Thank you so much for your time in replying. I really appreciate your input because you are a professional! I enjoy decorating, but I am the client, I can't imagine doing it professionally and for someone else. I'd be stressed. I have two labradors and so my thinking behind the darker rugs was to hide the dirt because as of right now the backyard is bare (dirt). And I really wanted a light gray sofa set, but I looked for about a month and then just settled on these. I will be on the lookout for some warm accessories. The living room, kitchen and dining rooms are painted alabaster. What would you suggest for the walls? Do you think that is a good white for the space? I had an electrician do some work so I definitely will be either retouching the paint or painting it all over. Thanks again 😊

    It's so nice! Everything just shines. I can't wait to see how you make it your own for you and your family. I started with my porch too. Lol And our door has a lion head doorknocker similar to yours. Do you have a design plan/style for how you'll decorate? Your son driving the golf cart looked so fast! That looks fun 😅 What do the golf cart trails lead to? I lived in Georgia when I was in high school. We moved from Florida to Norcross with my mom's job. I lived there for a couple of years; it was one of my favorite places that I've lived. I learned to drive there. I hope you didn't have any damage from the hurricane and all is well.

    • @NonnasCleanGetaway
      @NonnasCleanGetaway 19 дней назад

      Good morning! Thanks. This home is perfect as a second home. I really liked that the master bedroom was on the ground floor so I really don't need to go upstairs at all. In fact, I could probably count on two hands how many times I've been upstairs lol. And I also like the split staircase because if I ever do fall down the stairs, I won't have as many stairs to fall down. And also, if I ever bring the dogs here, they won't be tempted to dart down a ton of stairs. It's the little things that I worry about. This home checked all the boxes. It's on the verge of being too big as a second home so it's the perfect size. Plenty of space for guests. I love how you started with your front porch as well. We probably do that because it's the easiest and most impactful to make it our own. I am thinking of going with French provincial as my design style. French country-ish. Never in my life have I been interested in antiques-vintage stuff but here I am. In my next video I will share the treasures I found. I cannot complain with the chaos that I'm living in here as I make it a home. Because when I went without a kitchen sink at the condo, it was so inconvenient. And I know that you are dealing with the makeshift kitchen as you are making your new home, home. Do you have a sink in your laundry room at least? And it's a a good thing you're not having to go to the laundromat! There are over 100 golf cart paths here and they lead to anywhere you need to go. There's even golf cart parking at many businesses such as target and Kroger's. My youngest pretty much learned to drive here too, just a golf cart. And then my grandson got to drive when he was here a month ago. I am so happy that you loved living here when you did. Oh the memories! Funny how we always remember where we learn to drive and what we drove. Looking back on this video, I feel like I need to catch up on the yard! It looks worse than when I moved in! Even the front yard. I'm here for another two weeks so I need to make the most of my time. So glad that I got to produce two videos though because it's almost like a break from all the tasks I've been doing every day since I've been here. I've been putting together furniture and breaking down boxes every day. My bedroom set is the only furniture that came assembled. I know the people at the recycling center and they know me lol. The hurricane really didn't affect the house at all besides all the rain prior to the hurricane. Like six hours before the hurricane even got here it was pouring rain which I discovered I have a leak in my laundry room light fixture. I'm having the house sealed from pests, so I'm really hoping they see an opening somewhere of how water got in there. I responded to your comment on my condo video. I don't want you to miss it. I'm off to the recycling center and I'm hoping it's my last trip there. I keep telling myself to quit buying stuff for the house so I can get caught up and work outside. I bought several bags of bark for the front boxwood planters that go along the driveway but I don't think I'm going to be buying any more bark because I've read that pests love bark. I'm going to do pebbles. My son's school was cancelled because of the chemical fire east of Atlanta. First a hurricane, now a chemical fire...what's next. I hope you have a great, productive day. I'm going to try to have one too! Talk to you soon ❤

    • @miareynolds8761
      @miareynolds8761 19 дней назад

      The master on the first floor was important/ a must for us too. Our upstairs is basically for my hobbies. Lol. My craft room and library live up there. I have to say one floor living is pretty great. I only go upstairs when I need to. What's your next project? I love that you're getting into antiques now. I'm trying to do that because our house is 200 yrs old (with a new addition) so modern seems out of place here. My old mid century modern furniture is now at my sister in laws house, because it just didn't work with our high ceilings. We just got an offer on our old house and we accepted, so we'll be able to get back on track getting things done. I'm so excited and relieved. That chemical fire sounded so crazy on the news.

    • @NonnasCleanGetaway
      @NonnasCleanGetaway 18 дней назад

      Congratulations on receiving an offer on your house! That must feel so good! Wow, your new house is old! I can only imagine the character it has. They don't build new houses, unless they're custom, with a lot character. Like my new house, it's not very "interesting", so I have to get creative. I do love the high ceilings though! And the hard wood floors. Do you have any of the original floors in your home? I love it when people discover original floors under decades of linoleum or tile. I do wish I could sand down the floors here and stain it a cooler brown but I can also live with the color they are now. My next project?? Oh my gosh. I bought so much stuff to do little projects, like brass hardware for the bathrooms, two paint samples, and bags of bark for the front yard but I haven't started any of it yet. Right now, I am focusing on the front yard and the side yards. The backyard I will have to do some planning first. I'm thinking gravel paths and planting stuff in symmetry. I'd love a fountain, but I want it to be much more grand than what I have in LA. I bought some perineal ryegrass to overseed the front yard and that should be here Thursday. So I'd say a project that I am going to finish before I leave this time, will be the front and side yards. The inside has mostly been buying furniture, putting it together, and organizing drawers and closets. Just making the inside functional. I think the biggest challenge is being in the mood to get stuff done every single day. I'm sure you can relate. I haven't been upstairs to do anything besides put stuff in the bedrooms. I found some 1960s twin size maple beds on next-door. They're in great shape and the lady who sold them to me, she's 71 and those were her beds when she was little. I got them for 60 bucks! I figured I would put two twin size beds in one room and then a queen in the other. That way we have more sleeping options for guests. It really is perfect having the master bedroom on the first floor! Your hobby rooms upstairs is absolutely perfect. We are in the same season of life! It's exciting! I hope the committee approves you next week. I'm sure you're in a place where you could go either way; work or just work on your home full-time. Let it be fate! 😊 Well, I guess I will start on my gardening! I bought two Japanese maples and some shrubs yesterday. Oh, and a shovel! We have red clay type soil here. In LA we have like a sand type dirt. I am hoping to put out another video soon. I hope you have a great day! ❤

      @NonnasCleanGetaway this house has tons of character. I believe the banister (the reason I feel is love with the house) and some of the floors are original. We found out our two story house was actually three stories when built in 1800. Which makes sense. The servants' quarters were probably on that level. When I took down wallpaper in my library, I found an outline for a doorway on an exterior wall. I think that was probably where the stairs to the 3rd floor were. The 3rd floor was lost to a fire, and a young woman died in that fire. The librarian showed us an article about something very interesting. During the Civil War, there was a tunnel from our house to a neighboring house. We don't know why, but it's documented that it existed. We both love history, so we're looking forward to finding out more about the history of our house. I can't wait to see how you spruce up your yard. You seem to work magic and have a great eye for the details. I wish I could be working outside today, but I will be clearing the garage at our old house. I hope you have great weather today and you enjoy your project. I can't wait to see the results.

    Glad you're back! You have to be so pleased with how your kitchen turned out. It looks so good. What's your favorite update? I just used Beyond Paint in navy on our side and back doors. It really is good paint. How exciting that you've bought a house in Georgia! How will you divide your time?

    • @NonnasCleanGetaway
      @NonnasCleanGetaway 23 дня назад

      Hi Mia 😊 Thanks! My favorite update? The windows! My husbands is the kitchen sink. But I haven't seen the kitchen much since it's been painted and I know that's a huge transformation. I'm still so curious what the cabinets would look like with sand dollar (the wall color). Maybe in a couple years when the condo needs a refresh, I'll try it. I was in Georgia for two weeks and then went back to LA for three weeks to finish the kitchen and balcony, and now I'm back in Georgia. I'll be back to LA the middle of next month with no plans to return to GA yet. I'm going to try to squeeze a trip to S. Africa before Christmas. I know for sure next summer, we (myself, my daughter and her kids) will be in Georgia hopefully the whole summer. Maybe even spring break. I do fear the winters in Georgia. What's good about my situation is I can be anywhere anytime. It's so hard to be away from my pets. I don't feel like Georgia is home without them. It's so weird not taking care of an animal! So you're making your new house home! Oh, I bet the doors look nice! I have a crush on navy right now but haven't committed to buying anything navy yet. I love how the beyond paint levels itself. I didn't have any brush strokes! I can't imagine buying any other paint unless you're painting walls. Are you almost done with all the remodeling? Or at least the major "construction zone" work? How's your wrist? Is it back to 100%? I'm wondering if the winter will make it ache. My PTC (Peachtree city) backyard is a blank canvas right now. I need to make a video of my first two weeks at the new house so you can see why it's a blank canvas! Spoiler alert, I had all the trees taken out and the stumps! Pine trees don't do well here so the arborist pulled EVERYTHING because everything was a problem. It's so good to hear from you ❤ And thanks for not giving up on me 😘

      @NonnasCleanGetaway I can't wait to see your PTC house and backyard. I hope you're safe and sound weathering hurricane Helene. We're getting a ton of rain from it here in Kentucky. I'm definitely doing what I can in the new house, but big projects are on hold until we sell our other house. So the kitchen and dining room are still very much a shell. We're making do with makeshift kitchen in another room. I've mostly been unpacking for what feels like forever. Lol. It's hard to start the some days because literally every room needs to be painted, so I'm taking it a room at a time. I'm working on the laundry room this week. So far, the walls and trim are a fresh green, I painted the tile black, and today, I'm putting up the wood planks I stained "coffee" color for the ceiling. The shelves will have brackets stained with the same color as the ceiling. Then we can move in the washer and dryer. Yay! I'll be going back to work soon, so I have to use my time to the fullest. The next room will hopefully be my library. I can't wait to get my library unpacked and pretty again. I'm struggling with the paint color for this room. We like earth tones in our house, and I want a yellow that makes me think of sunflowers but can't see to find a yellow that isn't too bright . I'm no quitter, so I'm still on the hunt. Lol. I should be documenting our house journey better. 😄 I have lots of before pictures but not enough of the process. Hopefully, you'll be able to bring your animals with you when you're in PTC for longer times. I imagine it would feel like a big part of yourself is missing. I hope you're having fun with new projects in your new house. Take care!

      Today was a really nice day weather-wise. We had SO MUCH RAIN yesterday evening. That was scary because the hurricane was still way south so I couldn't imagine it getting worse. And it didn't. I was prepared though. Practically emptied the screened in porch and had enough water and food for days without power. I also didn't have to worry about trees falling on the house. I love the idea of your home already; green, black and wood brown. Sounds so rich and fresh! Maybe you can look for like a mustard yellow or a golden rod for the library, and if you have the wood brown in there it will make it like a sunflower? I'm imagining a rich brown wood ladder 😊 in there. You're giving your home so much character with the wood ceiling. It's all the details that add so much! With having a make shift kitchen, it's more time to live in the space to know exactly what you want. Homes have personalities and they almost speak to you the more time you spend in them. (That might sound weird but I'm sure you know what I mean, lol). Hopefully your job isn't too tiring. You might look forward to getting out of the "construction zone" for short durations and focusing on something else. But it's also hard to leave everything undone. Fingers crossed you sell your old home soon. It must be stressful getting that house ready to sell and I'm sure you'd like to close that chapter. Buying AND selling homes is SO STRESSFUL. I didn't enjoy the process. I really hope it goes smooth for you. My brother and his wife live in Big Clifty Kentucky. They sold their CA home and moved there a few years ago. It was a newly built home. Their daughter moved there first, they followed. It's getting chilly here tonight. I hope you're enjoying the start of the weekend ❤

      Thank you,I did miss this message... I'm glad you were prepared and the weather wasn't as bad as what happened in TN and NC. I like the idea of a golden rod color. My bookcases are warm espresso brown, so that color would be really warm and rich. I like that it would feel like sunflowers (my favorite flowers). I agree! Houses have personality. This house is so homey and I'm trying to take ques from it. I haven't started working yet- job is with the city and I have to be approved by a committee that meets next week. I agree though, it will be nice to get out of the house and have another focus. Hopefully I'll be approved and start the job soon. How fun that you have a Kentucky connection. I'll have to look up where Big Clifty is, I haven't heard of that town.

      @NonnasCleanGetaway I've only traveled to Austria and Hungary, but my husband was well traveled when he was in the Army. I agree, it's a big world. I am a home body, though. I know I need the comfort of home, so that seems to stop me. Maybe we'll find the right place abroad sometime. I know when I was in Austria I didn't want to leave. It's just a different way of life and I really want that. Our American ways are not always the best way to live.

    • @NonnasCleanGetaway
      @NonnasCleanGetaway 3 месяца назад

      I haven't been to Hungary, but I have been to Austria. I took my mom to Paris two years ago and one thing that she noticed is how much better the food tastes. They are picky about what goes into their food. I feel like in America, you can usually follow the dollar to know why they allow things to happen. Profits over health. Tell your husband, thank you for his service for us! ❤ That is so cool that he got to explore the world too. I know what you mean about being very comfortable at home. It is very stressful to move even across town. By the way, did you get settled into your new place? It takes a little while to make a new place. Feel like home. A friend of mine many years ago when I moved to Los Angeles and felt very homesick, she said to always give it six months, and then allow yourself to move back if you don't like it then. And I would say that that's the right amount of time to give yourself. It was around the 3 to 4 month mark that I never looked back. So I am mentally prepared for the shock of moving to Italy, but I am going to follow that advice definitely. By the way, I love your name!

      @NonnasCleanGetaway thank you :-) Funny story, my "grandma" name was going to be Nona, but my grandson would call me Nina (guess because he heard people call me Mia), so I was almost a Nona but now im a Nina. 🩵sadly, we're not moved yet. My wrist set us back in a couple of ways. Mainly that I had to rest and recover from the fall and surgery, but also because I couldn't be there at the new house (1 1/2 hrs away) for the plumber to finish the work needed for us to move in. The house was in the middle of a complete remodel of the kitchen and full bath when we bought it (why we got a good deal on the house), so we've had to coordinate the electrical work and plumbing. Currently, there's no water because the previous owner was doing it himself and was not really qualified to do so. We're getting back on track though, the Plumber is coming back next week, and then we can drywall and finish the walls and floors. We have movers scheduled for August 1 and 2nd.

    • @NonnasCleanGetaway
      @NonnasCleanGetaway 3 месяца назад

      Nina is also beautiful! Well, the more time that is needed before you have to do any work at the new house is much better for your wrist. I am glad that you are fixing everything to high standards. I'm sure when that house showed, many people did not want to do any work. A lot of people want turnkey houses. At least you will be able to make it your own. When we go to buy a house in Italy, I don't want to have to do anything major but I wouldn't mind buying a house that just needs some love. But who knows, sometimes it's too good of a price! My husband wants a lake view so we might find a property with a beautiful view, but needs major work 🤷🏼‍♀️ Contractors are so expensive!

      Hi Jay, I'm sorry to hear that you're having health issues. I really hope everything turns out ok. We just began summer so you've got a few months of this heat and humidity. I sure hope it gets managed! Our kids got out of school late May which seems early compared to the schools on the east coast. From what I've heard, they start around the same time. Maybe the east coast teachers take more days off throughout the year...or it's the snow days they factor in?? Interesting. I think we had it good in our days; start school after Labor Day and end school mid June. The grands and I shopped at Target, Lowes, and Best Buy. So a little bit for everyone. I bought my grandson the new X box as his graduation gift. It will keep him busy this summer. My granddaughter usually just wants clothes. They aren't doing any camps this year. Your grands are in a variety of programs! That's a lot of pick-ups and drop-offs! I can imagine how you feel about your baby starting kinder. I'm sure it's going to hit home like when your daughter started. He's probably so excited to go to school like the BIG kids. The condo is completely different! It's kind of a wreck right now. I told the painters they didn't have to put anything back on the walls, they didn't put ANYTHING back at all! Everything was pushed to the middle of the rooms. It was a misunderstanding since English is their second language. I used the painter the association uses because I know they do good work. My son helped me with the heavy lifting. It's going to look so nice once the windows are in. The kitchen sink was a nightmare! I ordered 8 to find the right one. I followed the measurements but they put these rails or clips on the side of the sinks to mount it to the countertop which make the sink a little too big for the cut out. The cutout dimensions (if they give you any prior to buying the sink) never actually match the template that's in the box. There are no numbers on the templates either so you have to use your tape measure. I had to learn more about kitchen sinks than I ever thought I would but my husband really had his heart set on a single basin deep sink so I really wanted to make it happen for him. I'm working on part 2 of the bathroom video right now and part 2 of the kitchen right after. Is your cup of black tea iced? Or hot in your air conditioned apartment? Regardless, sounds like a relaxing time. We are having a heat wave right now. I think 93 is the high today. Still cools off quite a bit at night. You take it easy, don't stress, your plant can wait. We will chat sooner than later. Take care ❤

      Hi Mia! Oh my goodness, how did you break your wrist? I broke both bones in my wrist (ulna & radius?) when I was in middle school. I fell off my bike. I had to have surgery to reposition the bones and then I had a cast on forever it seemed. A full cast and then I went down to a half a cast. But to be honest, I can't even tell you which wrist it was because it's never given me any problems. I hope yours heals fully and doesn't scream at you when the weather changes or it's real cold out. I've heard some people have that issue after breaking bones. I guess this gives you a good chance to fully live in the space and look at it a lot before making your plan of what you can do with your clean slate. That's going to be so much fun and then watching everything grow over the years will be rewarding. It seems like things need to be moved around or cut back a lot because some things grow faster than others. My garden is constantly changing. Geraniums and lavender seem to be the easiest for me so I just buy a lot of those. And the Bougainvillea is extremely easy, but you have to trim it constantly because it grows out of control. I don't have sprinklers so watering the garden is definitely a chore at least every other day. Ideally every night I should water the garden. I only have sprinklers for the grass. Will you be putting in sprinklers once you get your layout? Or like a drip system? I am sure a year or two from now you are going to have a beautiful garden. It's so great to hear from you! Have a great day and take care of that wrist. I hope it's on your non-dominant side. ❤
