This takes me back. My stepmum used to own a guest house in Redcar when I was a teenager. I think it might even have been on that same steet. It was great because me and my sister would go have a night out on the high street then let ourselves in to sleep it off in one of the empty rooms. It was for the best that she sold it as she used to do cooked breakfasts and dinners so she never had any free time with all the cooking and cleaning.

this hotel wasn't too bad at all. And that mattress protector on the bed is more like a topper, it wouldn't have been cheap, although it does look like its finished its days as a topper., but I am not surprised you found it a very good sleep at that hotel. I will book there when i decide to go Blackpool.
